Well, he could have done that by just thinking it.

Now BRB, let's be honest.  Mike Pence does not have the power, or the strength or stamina of his former boss.  Nobody does.  There's nobody who can declassify documents in his head like DJT.

I don’t think the IRS is tasked with those objectives:dunno

Oh most of us know that   - but there are many in your party that are using them to stir up everybody (shocker).

Gaetz claimed that President Biden’s plan was, among other things, to “disarm Americans” but “still collect your taxes, and they need $725,000 worth of ammunition, apparently, to get the job done.”

We need information from the IRS on an issue.  We requested the information back on December 15th.  I just received a letter claiming they need another 60 days to get us the information.

Yeah.....the IRS doesn't need more employees.

The entire Republican mantra against the additional 87,000 employees over the next 10 years is pathetic political grandstanding.

Those IRS agents were hired to come get our rightfully owned militia automatic weapons, take our gas stoves and make us wear a mask.

If SCOTUS security is more lax than the rest of the government and corporate America then yes.

If they have proper security protocols it's easy to see who downloaded copies, and may have leaked them. If they really wanted to they could get warrants to search phones, laptops, emails, etc. This was a crime after all, right?

All this makes me think it could have actually been one of the justices, and you can take a wild guess at which one I'm taking a hard look at.

well Mr Alito claims that the conservative judges had threats of assasination because of the leak, so I'd think he'd want it to be investigated aggressively like a crime and the person that put him and his buddies at risk prosecuted.  But  :dunno

  5. So the fact that Nickki stood by Trump's side and did nothing to stop him while he was in office is acceptable?

The Nicki Haley who said that  “For many people in our state, the (confederate) flag stands for traditions that are noble — traditions of history, of heritage and of ancestry."  (granted she did take it down, but not without doing a "there are good people on both sides" move.

The Nicki Haley who stood by Trump until after the 1/6 attacks (glad she saw the light then, but should it have taken that?)

I could care less if she would back out now as a form of respect for him, my issue is that she is one of the many who enabled him while he was in office and knew better.

Tell me examples of why you think VP Harris is shallow minded?

Truly want to understand TG.   To me character matters, and if Nicki was too cowardly to stand up and do the right thing when she had a lot of power and visibility with Trump why would I expect she could do so with Putin and any other situation that requires proper decision making for the greater good.  Just like I'd never be able to vote for Pence, or John Kelly or Pompeo, Mnuchin, Azar, Carson etc etc.

There are actually very few people who would have had access to the draft.

And anybody who did have access had a pretty diligent monitor on who opened it and when, copies made etc.  They know exactly who did it or was directed to do it.

Whoopsie.... there goes that Constitution thingy again

With the SCOTUS loaded with conservatives and today's political environment you know that if they could possibly identify a liberal as the leaker they would.  The fact that they can't sorta tells the whole story.

You have to figure that this board is somewhat of a microcosm of the larger electorate.  Strictly looking at this from a strategic perspective, I have to wonder if instead of moving to the far right, the Republicans should have moved more to the center.  How many posters here are former Republicans who will be hard pressed to ever vote for that party again?  I guess the internal strategists to this into account but if it wasn't for gerrymandering and the Electoral College this party would have gone the way of the ivory-billed woodpecker over the past 10 years.

Yes, but of all those on the board there's just a handful that are on the P&R board ... and that too is representative of the level of engagement and knowledge out in the world.  The others just vote like they do without engaging here about the topics.  I can only speak for my parents, one who is a Fox TV watcher 24/7 and straight GOP and the other who lives with it on, calls themselves an independent but talks about Soros and Hilary's Bengazi and "The Squad" like they're some sort of mobster gang and so she votes R.  Theyu "don't care to learn more, and none of it will impact us anyway, we'll be dead."  People vote without paying attention to what's going on.  If there's anything we could figure out that would improve this country would be to:

    1. determine how to get folks caring and engaged (Trump actually helped I think with this) and

    2. Teach folks how to determine "fake news" from real.  We see it even here all the time, people are not able or don't care to figure out the truth, they'd rather latch onto the quick and dirty headlines and run with them.

  9. Pretty sure that state government can ban coursework - CRT anyone?  1619 Project?  Evolution?  States also limit discussions on sex, books etc.

Youngkin (as gov) passed a CRT ban and a tip line for students and parents to turn in teachers.  Montana gov came out against "white priviledge" discussions, and in Utah restricted teaching of racism and sexism.  So yea, they can ban themes and coursework.

  10. Regardless of the stature or lack of for Colorado College, The College Fix is not affiliated with them in any way.  It is a conservative, right wing publication focused on what they call "political correctness".  A DeVos sits on the board.

As a general rule, when you see National Enquirer level headlines you should probably look into the pubication a bit.  Today a few of theirs are:

    • "Texas A&M med school removes photos of white male alumni to show commitment to diversity"
    • "Harvard issues weak response about LGBTQIA+ ‘infants’ class"
    • "Professor calls ChatGPT ‘woke parrot’ after AI refuses to cite fossil fuels’ benefits"
    • "Professor advises straight students to watch gay porn to see if they’re bisexual"
    • "The education/culture wars rock on … and conservatives have to keep fighting"

At this point we shouldn't try to save Republicans from themselves.

If we continually scream at them and tell them they're stupid for looking into the barrel of a shotgun to see what's in there, why are we so concerned if they do it over and over and over again.

Could start locally here by ignoring the trolls.

Reagan didn’t need a southern strategy to win. I think he genuinely cared for all races but sometimes old habits/ traditions got in his way too. But his VP really used the strategy in 1988 with Lee Atwater(sp?) as his campaign mgr

Ah but it was put in place years before him, and is still in place today.  So whether he needed it our not, it likely benefitted him.

  13. That's why I'm puzzled about the MLK thing that happened in 1983 and going into effect in 1986 (and later in some states).  Would have thought the southern strategy was in effect and that's why some states down that way were late to the party or determined it should be shared with Lee.  Gotta be honest though, I do'n't have time to research it properly myself this week.
