  1. Jeez, sorry to start a circular firing squad, guys. I came over here as a Badger fan trying to pay you a little compliment on what I perceived as a much better team than what Pelini ever put on the field against us. A lot of Wisconsin fans are saying the same thing. I'll just go away and let you yell at each other for how far you've sunk this year, being 7-1, still ranked in the top 10, and controlling your destiny in the division and all. that's what we do over here at Huskerboard lol
  2. This may set up better for our playoff bid if we can pull out the win
  3. Ohio State is a bit inexperienced I think that will give us an advantage
  4. Riley Michigan State #6 2015 W 39-38 Iowa #3 2015 L 20-28 Oregon #22 2016 W 38-35 Wisconsin #11 2016 L 17-24 2-2 overall NU PPG 28.5 OPP PPG 31.25
  5. This exactly. That last play should have been a touchdown pass. Tommy is not consistent on throws he should be consistent on. If Tommy throws that last ball to the outside that was a touchdown play plain and simple. Execution on that one. All of this. That is the problem. Tommy is not. It's not Tommy's fault; he's a great talent, but not in the system Langdorf wants to run. Tommy shouldn't be passing 27 times a game (31 last night). His passing percentage for his career is just over 50%. The more he throws, the more opportunities are squandered because half of those plays are incomplete (or even worse, intercepted). I've seen Tommy throw a lot of passes like the last pass in OT last night. It is what he is. Calling all those pass plays earlier in the game is what got that game to the point where the Huskers needed OT for a chance at victory. That is on Langsdorf. We have to throw sometimes. We also ran the ball 44 times last night which is almost 60%. Gotta have some Balance. Also we lead the league in yards per pass attempt so we don't squander that much by passing the ball, in fact we usually get good yardage. I agree we should be doing more to get Tommy easier throws, but at a point, your quarterback just has to throw the ball to the right spot, especially on a pass like the last play. If Tommy drops it over the outside shoulder, something I could do pretty consistently as a very average high school QB, that's a touchdown. Gotta put a little bit of the blame on the execution thereHard to believe how many uncle ricos we have around here. It's not that hard to throw the outside shoulder man, reallyAnd yet time after time in this game by whisky QBs and games around CFB, QBs fail to make the perfect throws. and again, if Morgan plays the ball better he catches it or draws pass interference. I edited my post after watching the play again. But I will say I think it would have been a TD if Hornibrook had thrown it. It was honestly a pretty easy throw and I think Tommy may have just missed the safety the way he threw it

It's not that hard to throw the outside shoulder man, really The corner was beat but the safety got to the ball because Tommy left it to the inside. Kind of a "lazy" throw in a sense seeing Morgan beat the corner and thought he could just flick it out to him instead of throwing it to the outside so Morgan could shield the ball with his body. Just didn't make the right kind of throw there. I don't think Tommy is a bad player but that situation just isn't his strength and we could have won the game had the ball been thrown a little differently
  7. I think so, yes. To a large degree. I think he cost us several games last year by insisting on throwing waaaay too much. I gave him a lot of credit in the Oregon-Northwestern-Illinois stretch for getting TA a lot of easy throws and sticking with a run-heavy game plan. However, the last three games he's kind of reverted back towards last year. The easy throws have become far less frequesnt - though they did reappear late tonight. And he's done a better job sticking with the run but the last three games he's stuck in a right-up-the-middle rut. Against Purdue 80% of Newby's carries were right up the middle. It wasn't quite as bad tonight but still way too much. You have to do that some to keep the defense honest but it should be 70% outside, 30% inside, not the other way around. Especially with a back that's as good in space as Newby. Agree with the bolded. The first 5 games, Langs really exploited the defenses. The past 3, not so much. We can talk about injuries to the OL, Carter, etc all day long, but the end of the day he is the OC and has to find a way to counter aggressive defenses. He seems to have reverted back to his old ways. Running to say we run with no play setting up another, passing to TA's weaknesses and ignoring what was working.... What happens when he doesn't have the Jimmys and the Joes to do that? I'm watching FSU and Cook just scored on an outside run. Except it was called inside zone and he bounced it. We don't have that guy right now. Haven't since Ameer. If this is true....and "we don't have that guy right now"......that's on Riley. How do you figure? Because Riley is in his second season and his business card shows his title as Head Football Coach. When was the last time we didn't have a "difference maker" at running back? We don't have a Dalvin Cook on our roster. Most of our roster is Pelini recruits. Therefore it's Pelinis "fault" we don't have that kind of talent on our roster buy really it's no one's fault because there are only so many players of that caliber out there and sometimes you just don't get them. We have competent and talented backs, but we do not have one of the best players in the nation in our backfield and I am not blaming anyone for that Riley seems to be doing pretty well with "Pelini's recruits", wouldn't you say? Now, with that said, when was the last time we were not absolutely stacked at running back?.........stacked enough that backs like A Green left to seek PT elsewhere because there was more than one NFL caliber back ahead of him....... In this day and age of college football, freshman "difference makers" are brought in frequently......A Abdullah and our very own #15 are previous examples of that. all of this may be true but you are blaming not having a player on Riley when the players are pelini recruits. I honestly don't understand your angle. We have good running backs, no one of Dalvin Cooks talent but that's ok. He is a 5 star recruits and the #2 back coming out of high school and Nebraska hasn't had a recruit like that in a long time. No one's fault, and we are deep at running back so it's not a problem. We ran well last night despite the perception. Wisconsins run defense is no joke Abdullah was not a freshman difference maker, please get your facts straight

  9. I mean I think he is right. We lost the game but out of all the losses this weekend ours was definitely the best

  11. that team was deflated, this Wisconsin team was dilapidated, there is a huge difference
  12. Need to try a little harder than that. How, by pulling a single random mention out of an article and making that the headline of a thread? the OP seems to be a Wisconsin fan
  13. We played a 2016 husker football game through and through besides the part we didn't win at the end. I love the teams consistency though. We are always right there in position to try and win the game

  16. I'm fine with a combo guy, I would prefer Lamar Jackson over Tanner Lee as well but we just don't have that kind of player on our roster. It hinders the offense when you can't pass effectively. And I'm not sure where you get that idea from but I'm sure we will run the ball 50-55% of the time next year, a little less than this year but not by much. I will say, it is frustrating because Tommy could be this type of player if he had consistent footwork. Tommy cab throw the ball well but we need that consistently
  17. I don't think this is true. The difference is we will have weapons on the outside. Our receiving corp is light-years ahead of Wisconsins and if we had a player who could get those guys the ball more effectively I promise we wouldn't look like Wisconsins offense. Part of the reason our run game is having a hard time is because Armstrong completed 40% last night. If we get a guy who can make the defense sweat the passing game it will open things up a little The RB run game is opened up by a mobile QB. It takes another defender away from the RB responsibility. It's not as simple as saying "the pass game takes a guy away from the box". there are a million ways to open up the run game and I am sorry to tell you a mobile QB isn't the only one. You can open up the run game and take defenders out of the box if you are slicing them up through the air, which will be easier if they are loading up against the run. In fact they may not load up against the run so much if they know your quarterback can really hurt them through the air and you aren't super reliant on the run. Again there are a million different strategies in football and yours isn't the only one that works. Personally, we have just had an athlete at QB for 7 years and I'm ready to try something a little different.
  18. I don't think this is true. The difference is we will have weapons on the outside. Part of the reason our run game is having a hard time is because Armstrong completed 40% last night. If we get a guy who can make the defense sweat the passing game it will open things up a little. Again, I don't want to disrespect TA. He is a great player when your get him doing what he does best. Like any other player. These coaches just aren't comfortable running that offense and don't know how to formulate a complete game plan to what Tommy does. All I'm saying is with a guy like Tanner Lee, the coaches will be more in their comfort zone and will be more effective
  19. After taking a look at the polls now I think we stay in or right around the top ten. There just aren't alot of teams out there that have a case they should be above us realistically Top 6 should stay. A&M, Wisconsin should definitely be ahead of us. Auburn, Florida, LSU and Western Michigan are the only programs with even a chance to jump us and two of those schools have 2 losses.
  20. I don't want to blame the loss on Langsdorf but the play calling in OT should have been better. Needed to get to 3rd and 5 or 4th and 3. First down goes nowhere you need to change it up. Second down goes nowhere well now you need to play for 5-10 yards because this is 4 down territory now. 4th down really could have been a touchdown with a better ball but we can't be having TA throw that route with the game on the line. Should have went simple easy throws for the first down like we were doing near the end of the fourth. I truly think this offense will be more efficient with Tanner Lee at the helm next year if he can make good decisions. Not a knock on TA but especially with the passing game these coaches will feel much more comfortable with a guy who can make all of the throws consistently and has good footwork. TA needs an offense getting him moving and keeping his momentum forward when he is throwing so he isn't tempted to do the MJ fadeaway. He could be a monster in an established RPO scheme. We can and should be utilizing TA better throughout the game, but I think we will see a more functional offense with a more prototypical QB
  21. I don't mind how it was managed but also would have loved to get the FG attempt in regulation. but there was an opportunity to get points with a short field a few minutes earlier and couldn't capitalize so I'm putting it more on the offense not executing than game management in that situation because realistically it was the safest option after a certain point and after what happened last year maybe Riley decided to extend the game this time
  22. I learned that while a close loss is way less embarrassing than the blow outs we had been used to, the close loss stings for a little longer when you know the final score should have been 24-23. I learned this Husker team still has grit and a great mentality, but I also can say I'm not sure we learned much. Our offense performed about how you would expect against a top notch D, not very good but nearly good enough. Our defense played well but let's be honest, the Wisconsin offense isn't much better than what we've seen all year. This was good to show we can hang but I think next week is going to be more telling. We have the talent to beat Ohio State if they play how they have the past month. We have an experience edge on them as far as players go. How will we respond if the Buckeyes come out on fire? Can our defense play with their athletes? Will our offense be able to score 4 touchdowns on this team? We shall see, but I love our players resiliency all year so I am confident they will respond next Saturday.
  23. Here. Westy quit on the play. Complaining about the officials on one play is the epitome of bad sportsmanship in my book. thanks for playing. By the way, we lost. You're right! I totally said we lost because of one call! Jesus dude. Pull your head out. My head is out. Yours, on the other hand... Let it go. this isn't our year. We have been exposed and as our schedule gets serious...well, that will work itself out. I hate ref smack. Plain and simple. That goes both ways. Makes us look cheap and stupid. get over it. I wouldn't say we've been exposed. Maybe it's been exposed we are a tough team other than that I can't say we were exposed for anything else last night. We lost a hard fought contest to an elite defensive team, and had a chance to win if not for a very questionable non call. We didn't though and should have capitalized elsewhere to win the game in regulation. But we weren't 'exposed' and the non call did alter the outcome
  24. I bet your prediction is wrong. I'll guess around 13 it wasn't a prediction, that was where I was hoping we would end up had we won, but we couldn't get the job done. I'm not sure how far we will fall now.
