  1. I think our offense can be effective with a drop back passer or a dual threat guy as our coaches will cater to our players? I think as long as we have our best players in the game this coaching staff will put out a good product Edit:forgot to quote lo country I'm glad the staff is looking to bring in all types of QB's having options is never a bad thing
  2. The GameDay guys don't like us too much in the top 10 it seems lol
  3. Keep it up TA! This is the type of play from him that can lead us to a special season. Not alot of people thought he was capable of this and I think some may be skeptical if he can keep it going (fair in my opinion) but man if he can, watch out big 10!
  4. Exactly. It's not that important, our offense can and will be effective regardless of what type of quarterback we have.
  5. where's the evidence?I'm on my phone so I can't provide a full breakdown, but doing a quick glance of the NCAA stat leaders, over half of the teams in the top 20 of total offense utilize a dual-threat QB. stats are hard with the phone. But I elaborated. Basically I think a quarterback with a fantastic arm but only enough mobility in the pocket is equally as valuable as a guy who can run pretty well but is very average in the throwing department if the offense around them is as talented as ours. We have great WRS. The more we can utilize them the better imo
  6. where's the evidence? To say mobile quarterbacks make an offense much more effective is foolish in my opinion because with good coaches who play to the strength of their quarterback, the offense will be effective with whatever his skillset may be.
  7. I will say having a duel threat guy is always a great thing if he is a solid passer. But I think people undervalue the pocket passers-by a bit. The offense can still be extremely effective with a guy who isn't a threat to run. You always want your quarterback to be mobile at least in the pocket of course. There are so many ways to take defensive players out of plays in the run game. You can have a great ground game without a qb run game, especially with the threat of a potent pass game led by a quarterback who maybe can't run but has a great arm. With the guys we have at WR that could be a very tough match up for opposing defenses.
  8. Interesting. So being responsible for shaping/leading young men in athletics and college is irrelevant as long as the football program is successful? Do you believe that the leadership in the football program should have certain moral convictions having the responsibility they have? One does not have to be religious or believe in a higher being to show leadership, moral convictions, responsibility and lead men. One can have "faith in their abilities" and be successful without believing in god. I do not know Mike Riley's beliefs, and honestly I don't need to. Success in my book is not just winning but mentoring young men and setting a good example for them, for our state etc. Riley has proven he is fit for this job, regardless of where he goes or doesn't go to worship on Sunday. So where does one develop and acquire moral convictions? Where does one acquire the discipline to adhere to these moral convictions and furthermore go out into the world and demonstrate them before others? parents, their community, and many other sources. Religion isn't the only thing teaching people to be good, sometimes people just want to be like other great people. Well, I appreciate your opinion but disagree. Inherently having moral convictions isn't really human nature. The way I see it the minute we selected men who lacked strong faith to lead our program the program fell to shambles: both in the W/L column and in a spiritual sense (see lack of respect for the fan base, anger on the sidelines, poor recruiting, scandals etc..). The body follows the head so to speak. After some research it appears to me that MR is a man of FAITH...like TO and this more than anything else makes me confident in our future as a football team and most importantly the future of the young men on this team and the men/women on the staff. MR seems to have his priorities in order: 1. God 2. Family 3. Everything else.... And we are seeing the fruit of that on/off the field. Just like TO. http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/01/one_last_oregon_state_football.html Sorry dude but you are wrong. I am Christian and I know plenty of great people who aren't. Do I encourage them to be? Yes, but there have been many great people in History who didn't believe Jesus was their savior. Doesn't mean we shouldn't discount what they did or meant, we can still approach all people regardless with their belief with love and understanding. Edit:bit of a bone headed post. We are on the same side here. I apologize

  10. faith is the number one key to success in anything in my opinion Does that faith have to be Christian faith? No. But 100% faith that you will accomplish what you set out to do is vitally important and does involve means beyond human comprehension Side note: I do believe a strong Christian faith can greatly help in developing the rare characteristic known as absolute belief.
  11. Do penalties resulting in conversions not count?
  12. We have been magnificent on fourth down! Man is HCMR gutsy! I guarantee we are pretty high on the list for attempts as well especially if you don't count teams that have to go for it because they are down 2 scores with 3 minutes left
  13. If Newby and Wilson look good I'd still rotate Ozigbo behind those guys this week just to be safe. We need him down the stretch
  14. So you don't think the coaches can form a game plan with our other pieces? QB play is as much a product of the other 10 guys on the field as it is the individual player himself. Will we see drop off without Tommy? Sure, but to go as far as to say this offense is "done" is a little out there. I'm pretty sure Ryker Fyfe can throw a screen passForm a game plan ? Yes, the coaches can definitely form a game plan. What I'm talking about is talent. In Fyfe's last start, he threw 4 picks. I don't think he has the talent to carry this team through the tougher parts of the schedule. I don't blame the guy, he hardly has any game time experience. My point is that it is much easier to shut down this Nebraska offense without Armstrong. I don't think Fyfe would be able to consistently deliver the ball to any receivers and the running game would become very one dimensional. yes their would be some drop off but this offense would still be effective without Tommy imo. It's a team sport and while the QB makes the offense go it's just as much about the team around the QB as anything else. Just ask the 2014 Ohio state buckeyes
  15. This type of argument was used a lot for why we didn't need a playoff. "Don't de-value the regular season!" But I don't think it really meshes with reality. Do you really think one team is going to say "Eh, doesn't really matter if we win this game. We'll try to get them back in the playoffs."? I agree with this. Big time games will still be big time games because regardless they still could have an impact. It might turn out they put Clemson and Louisville in the playoff but the outcome of that game still has Louisville on the outside looking in. Also no shot at a conference title game which is also important to players and coaches. I think the way it's currently set up is actually in favor of 2 teams of the same conference making it in. They could have very easily made it a non possibility for that to happen when the playoff started but they did not, instead they left the door open for any scenario to occur by giving the committee complete control with no limitations to what teams they could choose
  16. This thread is on quite the tangent lol. But I'd like to approach this from the other direction and guess what our floor could be. While obviously we could lose out I realistically think our floor at this point is 8 wins, which I think is great
  17. if we land Sarrell only this may be the best recruiting class in 10 years
  18. the competition for elite players is always going to be a crowded one
  19. I think we end up snagging Lewis and Sarrell. Would make for a hell of a recruiting class After those 2 I think Holmes would be the most likely to also sign on although I feel us slipping there. Jackson and DPJ are long shots
  20. I mean the services rate him as a four star, so I would think he is pretty good. What if some kid in Nebraska put up these numbers, would it not be as good because they are going against questionable competition? I know you're not trying to hate, but I'll take what the experts say and what the coaches say on this kid. I don't believe we will land him, but I don't think its fair to judge this kid based on the competition he plays, he is really talented. It's not fair, but it's generally how it goes. A 4* in a place like Idaho or Nebraska generally isn't as well regarded as a 4* in Florida/Texas/California, simply based on the level of competition. I would argue it's harder to pick up a 4 star rating in a place that isn't typically known to be a talent hotbed.
  21. I was worried a lot more about this game before the season started. I don't think Indiana is sneaking up Nebraska, I think they have Indiana's undivided attention. This is where all my confidence has stemmed from as well. This team seems to stay focused on the hurdle directly in front of them and that goes a long way
  22. people say this but I feel like he never had the talent at Oregon state to blow away any team. I understand he has lost some games he shouldn't have in the past but a top 10 Oregon state squad just automatically seems easier to beat than a top 10 nebraska
  23. Personally I love Nebraska with Adidas couldn't see them with any other brand
  24. Totally fine to think that, I hope you're right and I'll be very glad for it if so, but that's not based on any actual data - it's just a hunch. What data do you have to support the contrary? Ohio State is the only team of that caliber they have faced. and Ohio State is Goliath to Indiana, and they had an extra week to prepare.
  25. I agree with all of this. The only difference between you and those thinking there's a good chance that it's close (not the same thing as predicting, by the way) is that I/we realize all of the above doesn't win football games, and none of it matters once the ball is kicked off. ??? I think coaching and talent both win football games and matter once the ball is kicked off, Alabama is really good for a reason... Edit: I understand what you are saying though, in a way none of that does matter
