  1. With the sheer number of parents involved, i believe the public letters could have a very negative impact on recruiting going forward. If the powers that be in the Big Ten aren't willing to at minimum address the parents concerns, it will be a very bad look for the conference.
  2. Over under on how much longer Kevin Warren holds the Big Ten Commissioner job? My guess is >12 months. Hell of a situation that guy walked into.
  3. Winning does cure all imo. National relevance carries power. We saw that this past week with how ESPN treated us and Ohio State so differently. Historically there is little difference between us. Recently there is a massive difference.
  4. Just hypothetical here - If a person is treated in a hospital and passes, that hospital can get 20% more if the patient who is now deceased is reported to have covid, correct? I'm sure the whole situation has been blown out of proportion but it is reasonable to assume that some hospitals have listed potential covid patients as positives to receive the extra money. As to the extra 200k deaths, I believe a lot of factors surrounding the last 6 months are responsible. Just placing the extra stress on society will create more death. It is likely that many deaths were linked to a covid infection but the reality is we won't ever know. None of this really matters in relation to football for this fall. I don't think it will work but hope to see spring football now in 2021.
  5. I would agree with you. I honestly am not frustrated with them for cancelling, or not having an effective plan, but rather for ultimately blocking individual schools from playing some form of football this fall. If a school is prepared and willing I believe they should be able to play- similar to what The Big South conference is doing.
  6. Makes complete sense. No reason all B1G schools couldn't do the same. In event a kid does have a serious side effect, it is caught early and they get the best treatment possible. The same can't be said for the average college student.
  7. How did I minimize anything? The vast majority of kids who have gotten this have suffered no long term problems. That's just a fact. In a severe case, there are complications. The flavor of this week is the heart condition. Myocarditis has been around a long time and is caused by many different things - possibly Covid but that hasn't even been proven yet. There are effective treatments and severe cases are rare, especially in young, in shape adults. Would you rather be a part of on organization capable of diagnosing and treating a problem like this or just an average citizen that has no idea they even have anything wrong?
  8. People can blame whatever they want but it does get old. I'm not sure any policy would have worked when we had over 400,000 people fly directly from China to major cities all over the country in the first few months of 2020. Even after the travel ban was imposed, over 100k have still made the trip due to exemptions in the ban. The reality is no football and no real answers to be had Here is a nice horse race to take everyone's mind off. Have to watch with volume up. The end of the race applies to the topic...
  9. Ravage? an entire team. You mean like has already happened or you mean kids will actually get sick? The vast majority of kids who have had this didn't even get symptoms. Maybe some of those will have side effects? I guess that remains to be seen. If you take 200 random college age kids and split them into the following 2 groups, who is likely going to fare better over the next 4-5 months? Group 1 - Attend normal in person college classes. Eat out because it's almost impossible to cook all meals. Go to at least the occasional social gathering. Most kids in this age bracket aren't afraid of the virus so is it really necessary to social distance? What is their motivation to even try? I know some of these kids - they don't care about the virus. Group 2 - Be part of a football team with serious motivation to stay Covid free. Have at minimum bi-weekly testing along with the best physician care at your disposal. Have excellent food available to you in a safe setting. Be surrounded by peer and coach leadership to help keep you safe. It is very easy to see what group will end up with fewer cases and be less likely to have a serious problem even when they do get a case. They THEY you refer to are the presidents and the comish. They know what I stated above is true 100% They made this decision 100% to avoid liability.
  10. You took your anti-sarcasm pill today, didn't you.
  11. They knew exactly how they were to be compensated when they committed. They get a great education that can carry them through their entire life if they choose to use the time wisely. They also get the opportunity to earn a spot in the NFL. How many of us on here worked an internship? I did and was so thankful for the opportunity to show what I was worth. It gave me the opportunity to land a career position later in life. I wasn't paid a dime for all that hard work even though I was making the company piles of money with my hard work. My compensation? The opportunity! Millions of kids out there just wish they had the opportunity. Those kids that appreciate that opportunity bring a spirit to college football that makes it what it is. They play the game because they love it. They play the game for the long shot that some day it might become their job. Raw emotion and desire drive college football... Start paying and giving more and more and you will remove so much that makes it great.
  12. I would be OK with that as well but I would love to see Alabama play in Lincoln on a cold November day. Flurries in the air and wind chill 10 below zero.
  13. This situation really stinks for the players. However, thousands of high school kids are standing in line for the opportunity that these kids get. Our entitlement society is leading us down a path that will ruin our country imo. These kids are volunteering to play. Many of them are receiving a free education worth 6 figures. The ones who walk on are still receiving benefits way above and beyond what regular students get. In exchange for providing everything, the universities do make a lot of money. A good portion of that money allows the universities to provide for even more athletes in other sports that don't generate huge sums of money.
  14. This would be a fun schedule to me.. Vs Wyoming Vs Colorado At Kansas Vs Florida State At K State Bye Vs Texas At BYU Vs Miami At Missouri Vs Oklahoma Bye At Iowa Vs Alabama (Day after Thanksgiving)
  15. I don't see anyone having a full slate of spring games but I can see a few games being played. Instead of the red and white game maybe the culmination of our standard spring ends with a game against Iowa or similar. I guess it would be better than nothing. This really stinks for our seniors but tbh I feel bad for teams like Ohio State who really had a shot to win it all.
  16. What the heck- I'm in. Only way this thing grows is to share it on social media.
  17. Clemson seems to beat a bunch of mediocre teams yearly and still gets it done. I'm not in favor of that proposed conference but I don't think Nebraska would suffer as long as we were beating everyone we should on a yearly basis.
  18. I'm sure there are legal clauses protecting both the conference and the schools. If they want to play, they will find a way. I think the Big 10, and other conferences need to pay attention right now. While they have schools under contract, schools like Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, etc hold all the long term power. This may be the perfect time to start the process of a major realignment where we end up with the 4 super conferences that has been discussed for years. The Big 10 should be one of them but if they aren't representing what their members want, they will eventually sink. It will be an interesting next few weeks...
  19. Just having a decent kicking game would have added 3-5 wins imo. We haven't been quite as bad as our record would indicate so I believe the optimism is warranted. 10 wins next year may be a stretch but not a huge stretch. I really think we go 5-5 or 6-4 this year against the 13th toughest schedule in the country. Add in 2 non-conference wins and a 9 or 10 win season next year would look attainable.
  20. Rumor was one was Martinez but not sure if that was ever confirmed.
  21. I like us being scheduled against the best teams yearly. The paper tigers of the world get no respect and typically fall flat when faced with real competition when they finally have to play it.
  22. Guessing there will be massive ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK signs everywhere prominently displayed. I think someone voluntarily attending any public event right now pretty much waives any potential liability rights regarding Covid.
  23. We may end up being the only team with an actual home field advantage. I'm really curious to see how many fans actually attend though. We do have 20k confirmed recoveries so those people would probably feel great about attending.
