  1. Heard from fans or people close to the program? I'd love to see that, I figured Green would pick up some snaps and Deontre/Stille/Carlos would play slightly more snaps. But working in Robinson or Wildeman/Rogers would be cool.
  2. #1 is huge. They really don't have ideal size on the line this year, but they work hard and the LBs pick up a lot of the slack. I was skeptical about their LBs going into the year, but they've had some guys step up as usual.
  3. Haters gonna hate, but Jackson is easily out best DB at the moment. It could be Taylor-Britt, but I think he's been a little less effective as a safety than when he can move around. Jackson got burned on a double move against OSU, but outside of that he played well.
  4. I think some of that has to do with misinterpretation of his answer. They asked Walters why we didn't go back to it later, not specifically the next drive IIRC. So the reason we didn't go back to it immediately could've been the look the defense was giving us, and the reason we didn't go back to it later was because at that point it was more out of reach than 21-0.
  5. Very true. The whole game was an example of just one or two things going wrong every play. When they helped i on Young other guys stepped up like you said. I've been a big Martinez defender, but the next things we tried were screens and he just couldn't drop them in. Then other relatively quick passes Young was still just too fast and blew them up anyway. I think Mills had a shot to score on one of the traps and Young just shot across and dragged him down 12 yards downfield, that was freakish. And I'm not sure the third interception wasn't an example of the receiver running the wrong route to be missed that badly. Even if so that's still on Martinez for lobbing it into coverage where a receiver should be, and maybe it just was a terrible throw. His touch passes need work, but I think he'll get there.
  6. Sometimes the 40 doesn't match the play on the field. I think Dedrick Young ran a 4.6 at the pro day, and I don't think he would've looked a lot better chasing Fields. I don't think Barry is slow, but he seemed paralyzed waiting for Fields to make a move on him which meant Fields could just run by him.
  7. They weren't even considering us part of the big 12 at that point though, and I guarantee they don't suspend Davis if this wasn't a conference opponent. But it's a joke, Michigan State throws punches every other week and nothing happens.
  8. Because while the schools aren't paying them, the opportunities they have are hugely dependent on the school. Going to Bama or Clemson is essentially a guarantee of lucrative opportunities, while a lot of other schools aren't. Also don't think there's anything against a booster massively overpaying for the athletes likeness to swing them to a certain school. Dude owns some car dealerships, decides he can drop a million on a player for advertising. It's just another huge recruiting advantage, which isn't really new. But the lower end D1 schools just aren't able to supply the same opportunities. That's already true now - the exposure from big schools and the degrees from school to school are not equal. But it just exacerbates the problem. All in all I think athletes should have the right to make money on their likeness, I just don't know how you can do it without basically letting boosters pay whatever they want.
  9. I mean it all comes back to the coaches in the end, but I got the impression they know what to do. But knowing what to do and actually doing it right are different things.
  10. I think Davis is actually playing reasonably well, but good point the production isn't there. I guess I was thinking he could test pretty well, but not so well they'll overlook the non existent production. Barry is absolutely a long shot, but teams draft rotational linebackers in the late rounds. Still unlikely though.
  11. It was also interesting to hear Frost bring up receivers being to be in the right piece as well. We can all see the snaps and protection issues, but if the receiver isn't where he needs to be that could just look like a slow read from Martinez. I'm sure that's not all of it, but it's probably contributing.
  12. Not necessarily athletically, and that's as important as production in the NFL. You need both unless you have truly elite production or athleticism, and a couple of those guys are more talented. I'd bet on Daniels and Jackson for sure. The Davis bros have a shot, and maaaaybe Barry or Alex Davis. But to the original point, yeah this is not an overly talented senior class.
  13. Insulting to who? I agree it needs to be addressed and it's baffling that it's still happening. But fans being "insulted" by a player's performance in any area seems pretty entitled. Yeah we support the team and everything, but they only owe us effort and I have to assume he's working hard on correcting it.
  14. Not saying he's wrong, but that's really easy to say when every one of your recruits is at least a 4 star.
  15. I agree, but I think Frost answered it to some degree in his press conference. We ran it because we knew it would work well against the look they were giving us, and I'd guess OSU changed that after the timeout. I don't think we're good enough at the I and double wing stuff to run it against any defensive looks, we have to pick favorable spots.
  16. Right, I'm sure you could nail a 17 yard throw rolling out with Chase Young on your heels. Only a qb as fast as Martinez gets the throw off anyway, Young was closing in. It was not a good throw, but it's not a pick against most DBs either. It was barely behind Robinson, not a lot of corners have the burst to get there cleanly.
  17. There is literally no way you could know the first part. And Tanner Lee was our qb just 2 years ago, it's not that hard to imagine worse. He's not playing as well as he can, but he's got no chance with the pressure. I think he ran well, so that problem seems to be behind him. He definitely needs to improve his touch on passes both short and long - if he can zip it it's fine, but on screens or passes dropped over guys he's struggling. But he was at most like a third of the problem Saturday.
  18. I don't know what the rankings were, but they would still be averaging 10.3 without playing us which would be 4th. They get a lot of TFLs but are overall average against the run, both of which we saw when we played them. Edit: thought we were still on tfls, no idea on the rushing rankings. Probably significantly higher than 72.
  19. I'm not even sure how much that matters. Bosa was injured and sat out to recover, and the NFL didn't care much. Obviously depends on the injury, but he's a stud. I'm hoping this is a game where the tackles hold their own to some degree and get a huge confidence boost. Young will make plays, but even winning a few matchups would have Jaimes and Farniok believing they can block anyone.
  20. And we're tied for 8th! I don't have the numbers to back me up, but TFLs also feel like one of those measures that a Frost offense will never be great at. It's a big play offense, and you run some risks with that. I think it needs to be better for sure, but there's just always the potential for a quick screen to be blown up or the wrong read on an option.
  21. He's already doing that.. He's at exactly 5 ypc for the year. I think Tompkins can be really good, but I don't see any way he's option 1a by next year. It'll be Mills/Washington/Wan'dale in some packages again IMO, but I think we'll be more confident in rotating backups in.
  22. The way Frost talked about it, feels like the blackshirt could have been withheld because Jojo spent some of fall camp rehabbing with a private trainer. Is there anything to that? It could be interpreted as he was just injured and not a participant so they waited, or it could be the fact that he wasn't even in camp. Guess it really doesn't matter either way, just curious.
  23. Millen ain't the sharpest tool in the shed. I saw the same thing, it was close but I think he stayed back. It's just hilarious how their line handled it - if he was in the neutral zone, flinching to draw the call works. So does snapping the ball and letting the QB chuck it deep. In neither case is it smart to then remain in your stance as a lineman - even if he was offsides, snapping it means the play is live and your QB won't like the 5 yards in return for getting lit up.
  24. Yeah Oregon used to always go for two at least on the first touchdown, and in an upset bid any momentum helps. Wouldn't be shocked to see it. I'd be asking the kick off specialists to pop it up high - I don't even care if it lands at the 25, at least we'd have time to cover it. I think some of our kickoff coverage issues are because guys are screaming down the field out of control trying to get there, there is no hang time for them to work with.
  25. I agree it's crazy people think he should sit, but I don't think the record paces are an argument either way. This is an offense designed to put up huge numbers in an era of huge numbers. Being a freshman starter and playing now almost guarantee the current record regardless of who is playing, barring injury. I believe Masker would at least approach the yardage mark if we started him for 4 years. But again, I totally agree Martinez is the man and is being seriously underrated by some segments of the fan base.
