I've lurked here since at least 2016 and this will be my first comment, so bear with me.

Listened to split zone duo (recommend) this morning and found myself encouraged by what I heard Godfrey mention about the job once it opens up. He's as plugged in as anyone when it comes to coach openings and is as pragmatic and honest as they come in the national media.

This job has bones. Nationally, we have a great administration, good finances, and a great donor base. I'll hearken back to what was drilled into us when Scott was hired.. there is "unity of purpose" across our apparatus. In my opinion, we're also prime for NIL and a national recruiting operation. What will open up this year? Auburn is likely, as is UCLA, Arizona State, North Carolina, and I'll throw in Georgia Tech for the purposes of this argument. Last year, that question was answered with a dozen more prestigious jobs. Most of the coaches at Tier A and B schools are under massive contracts, in year 0/1 or building towards something they can use a springboard, so I don't see this being a crazy year. To make things more interesting, a college football environment in flux - and our great position in the new world order - makes this a buyer's market for us and anyone else in a top 2 conference.

So what do we have on the rest of the college football landscape when it comes time to hire? Bones. Auburn is (as usual) a cluster. ASU is a total rebuild. UNC competes with three other P5 jobs JUST IN STATE, and the five GT fans left want them to commit to the triple while their administration wants to commit to academics.

What do they have on us? Well, they can say that their on-field product isn't an embarassing meme, but more importantly they can recruit well locally (ideally).

What do we need? We need a developmental coach with experience recruiting nationally, building culture, professionalism, coaching experience, and a reputation for maximizing talent in scheme, particularly OL/DL.

Who comes to mind? My list is as follows. I'm sure it's not everyone's, but I'm excluding anyone toxic or anyone that would need to move laterally. I'm also excluding Chris Petersen and Dan Mullen since I want to be realistic and I'd personally never give up a broadcasting job for this. I'd take Petersen though.

    - Bill O'Brien: Saban academy grad who will be a top option for all the jobs I mentioned and whatever else opens up. He's a stabilizing force who will bring a modern, professional operation. Penn State should NOT have recovered and the job he did there deserves a lifetime achievement award. Say what you will about his Texans tenure and I'd probably agree with you, but he brought a basement dweller to within a few plays of a super bowl berth. I don't see the negative aspects of his tenure there translating.

    - Mike Gundy: He would leave based on his recent comments re: T. Boone Pickens. All indications are that he would kill it.

    - Mark Stoops: Sounds like he's fighting the administration and something will give eventually. He would be an easy sell to a nostalgic fanbase and his on-field product at Kentucky would translate well here in all phases. Especially significant considering what they were before he arrived. Great recruiter also.

    - Matt Campbell: Say what you want about his performance in big moments, but he's got Iowa State at their absolute ceiling right now. I think of him as what HCSF was supposed to be. Some might say he would never come since he's 'reportedly' passed up big opportunities but I think he's gotta move soon since Iowa State's topped out.

    - Jeff Monken: I think he's got what it takes to be a great P5 coach that would change his scheme. I don't expect him to run the option wherever he goes next.

    - Bret Bielema: I think he's changed since he took the Illini job and he would bring a great staff with him. He seems to have Illinois trending and fundamentally sound.

    - Jeff Hafley: He's done a great job considering what BC is capable of. He'll be back in the big ten soon and would do a great job here. Wouldn't be at the top of my list but deserves a call.

Guys I've excluded as I don't see them leaving: Aranda, Fickell,

Guys I wouldn't want that many of you do: Urban, Kiffin, Tom Herman

B-Tier Candidates I think would do a good job: Jim Leonhard, Ken Niumatalolo, Sean Lewis, Leipold, Jonathan Smith

Great list. Very realistic. I think you nailed the pool.  People who throw out Wittingham, Aranda, Fickell,  Urban, Kiffin - seem to forget there needs to be mutual interest, and none of those dudes are coming here. I'd take anyone on that list, depending on if Hafley makes a nice jump in year 3.

  2. What can be said that hasn't already been said? I used to want log in after every loss, and break down what went wrong, but this is my first post since the game - because what's the point anymore.

New QB, New WRs,  New OC, New WR Coach,  New OL Coach, New RB Coach, New P/K,  New ST Coach, 15 Transfers (#6 Transfer Class), 5 New Coaches. Same f#&%ing problems.

Frost 0-1 vs Bert, 0-3 vs Chryst, 1-3 vs Brohm, 1-3 vs PJ, 0-4 vs Kirk, 2-3 vs Fitz. 4-17 vs the Coaches in our division. Every week during the season we go into the game with a disadvantage at the most important position on the field. I've given up on blaming AM, or CT or Chins or the OL or Special Teams....this is all on the incompetence of one person - just move on already.

My son took the Community College route, but went out of town to at least make a life experience out of it. We found A LOT of parents taking the same route, either to save money before transferring to a University, or to ease in kids unlikely to have been accepted to more preferred colleges. Or both.

The stigma is definitely off community colleges; they are a popular option and the ones around us are thriving with new construction and respected professors.

My daughter made up the slack by going to a ridiculously expensive private school back east that has rescinded much of her financial aid while raising tuition.

My First Job post Bachelors Degree: 30,000/Year

My First Job post Associates Degree: 25/hr

My Community College degree cost probably 1/10th my bachelors even with an athletic scholarship.

What the hell is she even talking about?  And, I thought black people who get shot like she's describing only happens to people doing the wrong thing and supposed to support the blue.

Oh man haha. So when a black dude gets choked to death on the street it’s back the blue, but when Trump gets his mansion checked for illegal documents, suddenly she’s worried about law enforcement. She’s an idiot so this really shouldn’t be that surprising, but the mental gymnastics is astonishing.

Can someone please explain to me why he's still raising money like this?  He's not officially running in 2024.  Is this going to a campaign fund?  Or, is it going to him personally?  It sure looks like it's going to a campaign fund.  Which, it's illegal for him to use for personal use.

There is a reason he hasn't announced he's running again....

"Still, at the end of last month, the Save America PAC, Trump's largest PAC, had a whopping $99.1 million on hand — and the millions raised after the Aug. 8 FBI search added to the former president's massive war chest. Regulations from the Federal Election Commission and experts on finance law say that there are almost no restrictions on how Trump spends the PAC money while he is not a candidate for president."

Turley is a nationally known and respected professor of Law:dunno

His take on leaking info during an investigation trying to frame the argument is unethical at best.   If Trump is guilty, then try him in court not through the media.

"In November 2020, after the election, Turley appeared on Fox & Friends and claimed that election machines In Michigan had switched “thousands of votes“ from Donald Trump to Joe Biden, suggesting problems with the results."

Never heard of the guy, but a quick google search shows he's partisan, or lacks common sense....possibly both.

  7. I'm nervous for Week 0. There has been many times where NW/Fitz were counted out going into the season and put together a Top 25 campaign. We are probably pretty confident after last season, but if Fitz has pulled off a miracle once again, and has a Top 25 group, we could get smacked in the mouth and our season derailed before most teams even take the field.

It will all just depend on how Rodgers wants, don't you think?

I can't imagine the 6th/7th spot being someone that Rodgers doesn't want.

I think it's a factor, in this scenario he's spoken very highly of both Toure and Winfree. Probably edge to Winfree due to being with the team longer.

  9. As a Packer fan, I don't think he makes the roster unfortunately. I think if they take 7 WRs Winfree takes that last spot. Hopefully he sticks around and joins the practice squad, as it will be inevitable that he would get on the active roster at some point this season.

Ireland's "newspaper of record" goes nuclear on Nebraska and Frost.  The article plays the hits - Maurice Washington, LP, Ron Brown, etc.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/2022/08/18/cornhuskers-bring-plenty-of-baggage-to-dublin-along-with-the-razzmatazz/

Frost is the character leading the Cornhuskers into Dublin to take on the Northwestern University Wildcats at the Aviva Stadium next week.

If Aer Lingus and the litany of other corporate sponsors involved in this shindig wanted to give Irish sports fans a taste of the authentic college football experience, in all its exploitative, chew-these-young-men-up-and-spit-most-of-them-out glory, they have chosen wisely.

With a rabid fanbase, Nebraska is an institution with a proud history of winning (although not lately) and an equally hard-won reputation for often doing the wrong thing when it matters most.

When the current coach was a redshirt quarterback in 1995 (sitting out the season because he transferred from Stanford), Lawrence Phillips, then Nebraska’s best running back, broke into Frost’s apartment and dragged his own ex-girlfriend, Katie McEwen, down three flights of stairs by the hair before smashing her head into a mailbox.

Phillips served a six-game suspension but was back on the field for the business end of the campaign to help them win a national championship. Of course.

The university is currently on probation for violating NCAA rules last year, Frost himself is waiting to serve a five-day ban this season for his part in that debacle, and the newly-arrived offensive co-ordinator, Mark Whipple, was suspended from a previous job for comparing a foul committed against one of his players to “rape”.

    This seemed super unnecessary...

    I just can’t imagine how.

I was just on LinkedIn, a post from a former FBI agent popped up on my timeline saying "Let's show some support for the FBI and back the agents out there" something along those lines. A majority of the comments were about the FBI being rotten to the core, people belong in prison, it needs to be torn apart and rebuilt....I know, never read the comments. Scary how all it takes is one privileged orange douchebag to point his finger and millions take the bait.

At this point, Republicans would probably secretly love that.....since Trump is making them look like pathetic cult worshipers.

    Hmmm.....

Field Reporter = "The FBI today had to raid an ex-president's home because he refused to hand over top secret nuclear documents prior to hiring dozens of temporary foreign workers......Back you in the studio"

Anchor = "in other news, the President signed a bill today that most Americans are cheering".

Republicans....."Thank God they aren't talking about Trump anymore".

The best part is, Trump was the one that broke the story about the FBI searching his home. I'm not sure we know much of anything without Trump shouting about raids, hoaxes, planted evidence. Don't start nothin, won't be nothin.

It was a loaded question but an honest question.

And you still haven't answered it.

It was pretty funny how you painted conservatives as the folks who decline to persecute or harass their adversaries. The GOP is loaded with hatchet men.

I guess all we can do is drift back to 2016 when the same FBI announced an investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails 11 days before the election, effectively handing the Presidency to Donald Trump. Remember how Republicans refused to witch hunt Hillary Clinton, and never even dreamed of chants, t-shirts and bumper stickers to  "lock her up!"

You also seem to forget that evidence and witnesses against Trump are far from just feckless liberals. It's the President's own appointees, the Republican secretaries of state, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Trump's former lawyers, his former business associates, the many people he screwed in a 40 year career of well-documented grifting, and Liz Cheny. Their mindset, as you put it, is a refusal to play along with a disturbed and narcissistic child who would throw the entire country under the bus to save his toupee.

Someday you'll have to admit this. You can remain a conservative, but you'll need to apologize for those last two votes.

Don't forget withholding aid from Ukraine until they announced dirt on Biden.
