  1. There are quite a few fans that are still worried that the staff are going to be recruiting our players during practice and the games. They're just scared. They're scared that Frost 100% N and 0% UCF and will use this as an opportunity to take more stuff. And they know that we can't win without him. This is how people act when they feel helpless, they b!tch about everything because at least they have control over that.
  2. I'm not even from Nebraska and I take offense at that. I'm not a big dancer, but when I have been forced to dance, square dancing was the most enjoyable. I think it's way more mainstream than hick. Edit: Like bluegrass. Bluegrass might be more prevalent in certain parts of the county, but you can find bluegrass bands all over the country. It's seen as more quirky than hick.
  3. Nebraska orientation program? "Walters, you'll be the man and Beckton, you'll be the lady for this square dancing" "This is called a Runza, feel free to eat them on the sidelines" "This is called hunting, it's how people found food before restaurants"
  4. So Frost is going to take Walters and Beckton square dancing to see if they qualify to live in Nebraska?
  5. I'll not disagree with either of these. Once you get used to weather being in a certain range year-round, anything colder feels like Hoth.
  6. No worries, you're not wrong. The two words most commonly used to describe me by coworkers are sadist and jackass. Salty is just a new term to me. I like it.
  7. Too late. The twitter has been hinting at it for a while. <html> <insertgenericUCFfanoutrage><nebraskavflorida></mcgriff></hopehelikesbeingcoldnotgoingtodisneyworld> <coldthere></snow> </html>
  8. What is the advantage of knowing about Nebraska square dancing training? I'm not pushing back, just not seeing the connection. When I was at UCF, they had a class called Country/Western Line Dancing. Lot of football players in that class. No wonder they're thinking about transferring, not enough school-sanctioned square dancing...
  9. I'm not sure I'll be able to make it out to Lincoln anytime soon, it's a bit of a trip from where I live. But I believe you that HB is close to what I would find, it feels like when fans of the home team offer you a beer, but a lot more welcoming. HB does have it's share of overly defensive and insecure fans, but I'm of the opinion that communicating on the internet brings out the worst in people. If this is the worst of Nebraska, I can see why people can't wait to return to Nebraska when they leave.
  10. I agree with this. I've enjoyed HB b/c of how classy and nice the fans are. It's rare to find fans that actually want to discuss and reasonably respond and admit when they are wrong. Most just want to see who can troll for the most responses. But the UCF Rivals board is not the cream of the crop for UCF fans. They were pretty easy to rile up before the coaching stuff, so add a bunch of "Husker fans" trolling and it's like a board full of cornered animals, even to the fans that come in peace. Honestly, the "Husker fans" that have been on there are (for the most part) so different than the Husker fans on here that I wouldn't be surprised if at least half were fans of other schools trying to make y'all look bad and/or trying to rile up the UCF fans. Do Iowa fans care that much about y'all? I wouldn't be shocked if a few were USF fans. None of them are displaying a wealth of knowledge about Nebraska.
  11. I just mean that the Heupel hire feels really similar to how it felt when Frost was hired for a lot of UCF fans. There's reason for optimism, but lots of question marks as well. Y'all might have known a lot about Frost when we hired him, but it came out of nowhere. We were hearing a handful of names, but Frost wasn't one of them. Once the announcement came out, UCF fans were cautiously optimistic. But there were some big questions, like can this guy with midwest/northwest connections recruit well in Florida? And can this guy design his own offense or is he just copying the guy copying Chip Kelly? Obviously, we got good answers to both questions, but Heupel feels like a similar balance of hope and questions. I've been called many things over the course of my life, but salty is a brand new one. How to incorporate that in my avatar...hmmm....
  12. No idea. There's a decent chance that Walters only stayed on to have a shot at the HC position, but Beckton probably wanted to stay. He was still recruiting! Heupel says that he "obviously wanted them to stay." Rumors are that Beckton wanted a promotion and Heupel wouldn't give it to him or promise that he would be promoted soon. In this hypothetical theory, Frost may have promised him (or promised strong consideration for) the OC position when Walters inevitably leaves. It's more embarrassing if you're a UCF fan. The installing a defense in 3 weeks thing was pretty awesome.
  13. I'm not offended (I have no problem not being the sharpest knife in the drawer), however I wrote about a real concern in a facetious tone. Namely, that both this thread and more so the Assistants Announced threads are starting to focus more on whether the UCF fans are whiners (and whether I'm a butthurt/whiny/naive troll), than the actual topic they were created for. While creating a thread to debate my intelligence/character doesn't sound like the most workable solution, it probably would get those threads back on track.
  14. I'm getting a ton of compliments in a bunch of different threads, it's hard for me to keep up. I wonder if the mods should combine them into a "Is ATS a butthurt moron?" megathread. It seems to be the topic du jour now that some of the news is dying down.
  15. We were all hoping to get Herm Edwards, but ASU beat us out. Damn P5 money...
  16. This worries me. Again, waiting for more details. Certainly possible. We get hope from the fact that the last guy we hired was some guy who no one was excited about and couldn't even design his own offense. It's not fair when people call me whiny... Yep, it really screws over a team when they have to wait until December to hire coaches... Unless he is an evil warlock, as established earlier in the thread. Somebody's cousin overheard at Tijuana Flats that the coaches wanted to dress as other members of the Justice League but were told that Superhero-Friday forces everyone to wear the same one-size-fits-all costume of Batman. Told that the admin assistant left in anticipation of this rule.
  17. UCF has never had a coach leave since we started playing real football. Past three coaches were fired or forced to resign. So Beckton leaving is a BFD for UCF fans. It actually hurts worse than Frost. From 1985-2015, UCF only had three coaches, so this quick transition thing is new to us. The one mainstay at all times has been Beckton. He was a grad assistant in '92 and has been coaching in various capacities since '96. Solid guy, solid recruited, solid coach. Never complained and bled black and gold. No matter what chaos happened in the transitions, Beckton was around preaching the gospel of UCF. So when Frost left, the consolation was that of course Beckton was still here, still preaching the gospel of UCF. Him leaving is a really bad sign. Charley Hughett is just a former UCF player. The big deal, though, is Beckton wouldn't leave unless a warlock had hypnotized him or something happened... Something strange is happening here. I've heard rumblings about bowl game bonuses for the coaching staff, possibly tied to flipping commitments. I'm not sure I see the potential for UCF to look good here, but I sure see the potential for something bad. Beckton leaving is a very ominous canary...
  18. Yep, just saw it. If Heupel is some dirtbag that mistreated the coaches and shows obvious potential of mistreating the recruits, Frost is justified in grabbing as many people as he likes. Waiting for more details...
  19. If the new coach alienates the most loyal, heart-and-soul of the program for the past 20 years, is that a good sign?
  20. This is why I'm pissed. I'm trying to be both, but Frost isn't making it easy. I'm preparing for the inevitable heel turn...
  21. I agree with this, it's about the kids more than the fans. With all the garbage happening, we're probably not going to win, but if it gives the team closure, it's worth the awkwardness. If the team is feeling hurt and betrayed, it's probably not worth the damage.
  22. All three comments made me laugh out loud and made me realize why I shouldn't plan on leaving Huskerboard anytime soon.
  23. Thank God, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here. Some guy called me a UCF troll! I'm still waiting for details to come out, but on our side, the story is that both were offered the same positions and raises and they decided to leave anyway. If Heupel ran them out of town, we'll be pissed at Heupel.
  24. Welcome to the hell that UCF fans are going through. Frost: I love UCF. I'm so loyal to you, I'm just more loyal to Nebraska. UCF: We understand. That means that you'll be nicer than all those guys that callously used their programs as stepping stones? Frost: Nope! I'll treat you much worse. UCF: Worse? I thought you had a special attachment... Frost: I do! UCF: But you're going to ravage our program worse than coaches that hated their last school? Frost: Yup! Go Big Red!
  25. I've got like two dozen notifications, so I'll try to address as much as I can in a general response: There seems to be this idea that UCF fans (and me) are going through these unrealistic stages of grief and that if we want to play "big boy" football, we just need to suck it up. First, there are fans that are going through the stages of grief and might be for a while. For most of us, we had plenty of time to figure out that Frost was leaving. It's been weeks, y'all. Most of us got over it. Coaches being poached happens at all levels of college football and there was decent chance of him going back to Oregon or Nebraska from the start. Most of the fans are over it. Second, coaches being poached happens at all levels of college football. Everyone experiences it at some point. I actually think it happens less at higher levels of football. So this idea of "don't try to rationalize with butthurt UCF fans"... well, that's actually probably accurate. But not for the reasons you think. Frost left, boo hoo. Hard to complain when we just went undefeated. Guy doesn't owe us anything. Flipping recruits, taking transfers. Everyone does that. Taking coaches? Common. Taking all the coaches? Not so common, but that speaks more to Frost's leadership ability than anything else (that piece is probably irreplaceable. I'll admit that stings that we'll probably never find another coach like that). The issue is that Frost presented himself like he wasn't like other coaches. Like he was torn about the decision. If he had said, "UCF was great, smell you later" (or something cooler), we would have said, "Thanks for the championship. We're mad that you screwed up our bowl, but you got us there." And we would have gotten over it. But Frost has talked a lot about how much he loved UCF, and the leadership, and the team, and the fans, and how he wishes us well and wants to come back and coach because he loves everyone. And the UCF have mostly bought into that. THAT'S the part that we're upset about. Not the coach leaving, but the coach wanting good things for us and decimating us as thoroughly as seemingly possible. 2 questions for Nebraska fans (serious questions looking for examples): 1) Have you ever heard a coach talk about a school they were leaving the way Frost has talked about us? I know some coaches that have said some nice things on the way out, but nothing like this. 2) Have you ever heard about a coach taking as much from a school on his way out? I know some coaches that have taken some things, but nothing like this. It's the contrast between the two that has UCF fans feeling betrayed.
