5 losses by 3 points last year. Need to be better. Rhule explains it in he video.

Sounds like we should be chasing 4...

I just watched the press conf from 7 days ago, by HC Rhule.

He did a great job.  He answered the questions about Trev, his reaction, the University, his thoughts on being in Lincoln, the sports outside of football, his expectations and his excpectations for an AD having urgengy and a go-getter/hard worker (the presser was before announcing Troy Dannen).

He did a great job and as expected, Rhule saved the day.  He is so personable and intelligent and passionate about Nebraska.  It's not fair they wanted answers and put it all on him though.

I am glad the University of Nebraska got a new AD quickly.  Will be good to hear his thoughts soon.  So far it seems like an AD that wants to be here and Troy is an Iowa/Midwestern/Nebraska kind of guy.  So that's good too.

It's about as good s we could've expected given a tight spot.  Rhule doubles down on his Nebraska commitment and affinity.  We hire a new AD whom Rhule respects and is excited about.  We hire a new president.

Talk about emotions for fans.  All things considered, it landed in a place that can keep momentum and excitement.

If you've never sampled his posts in P&R, you may not be shocked to know they're even worse.

Imagine a world where everyone adopts NorCal tenets of belief.

Marcus Satterfield [he/him] is not what NU needs for prominence.

We are really tight on scholarships.  Extra qb does not fit, as we will still be seeing some players leave before fall practice.

We might scholarship strapped, but having your 2nd and 3rd strings as a True Freshman (who backs another True Freshman) and HH is a terrible strategy.

As a sign of the right program trajectory, Haarberg would never see the inside of the QB room except to say hello to legitimate D1 QBs.

I expect him to improve with a full year actually being taught the QB position. And considering we only have 3 scholarship QBs and 2 are true freshman, Haarberg will be no lower than 3rd. I'm not excited about seeing him play QB again either, but I think it's reasonable to project that he could become a passable backup option.

Three handoffs, punt or maybe a couple first downs.  The moment we have that kid trying to read a D and throw is nightmarish.

What do we think of this *Potential* Two-Deep?

    QB - Railoa, Haarberg

RB- Dowdell or Ervin, E. Johnson or R. Johnson

    FB- Bonner, Liebentritt

    WR- Neyor, Garcia-Castaneda or Bullock

    WR- Banks, Coleman

    WR- Lloyd, Doss

    TE- Fidone or Boerkircher, Nelson

    RT- Benhart, Brix

    RG- Corcoran, Lutovsky or Pyle

    C- Scott, Evans-Jenkins

    LG- Mazzccua, Piper? or Taumua

    LT- Prochazka, Knaak

DE- Lenhardt, Wallin or J. Williams

    NG- Hutmacher, Juedy

    DE- Robinson, Van Poppel

Jack- Pwill or Butler or Sherman

LB- S. Thomspon or Gbayor or Bullock

    LB- Wright or Borders, Rogers

NB- Gifford, Barnes or K. Williams

CB- B. Hill or Hartzog, Gradney

CB- T. Hill, Nation or Bootle

    S- Buford, Bretz or Benning

    S- Singleton, Collier

    PK- Alvano, Ottomanelli

    KOS- Alvano, Buscini

    P- Buschini, Koch

    LS- Witucki, DePooter

HH any better than emergency 4th string QB means we don't like to learn or plan well.

7 for 15 with a pick and sacked twice.  He'll seamlessly fit into our QB room.

He looked too poised, no lost fumbles, and way too high a completion % to fit in to last year's room.  Another knock for fitting in is he was able to see the field, knew his team's colors, and was throwing with his strong arm.

I think its mind boggling that some cant see that there is a difference between coaching QB's and overseeing an offense as well as the benefit of having continuity in that group as a whole..  those that want to out an OC after a first yr start up with all the issues that were faced,  boggle my mind...  maybe Satt is over his head and maybe Rhule is setting the table for that scenario, only TIME will tell...  That is the difference between a good head coach and a knee jerk reaction..

The issues were on Offense and some Special Teams.  You want to ride Satterfield for a few years in an era where talent goes to greener pastures in hopes he comes around?

One of the many knocks on the guy is he is too complex with his playbook.  Couple that with this - did you see any improvement from our QB room at all?  We have a coach who we want to give more time, in hopes he can be developed, in an era where talent flees in an expeditious fashion, because looking for better coaches and proven commodities is...not the right thing to do?

Satterfield is a weak link in the tied-for-second most important coaching role on the team.  Let's now build strategic foundations around this fact and all of this "time" we have for him to come around, fingers-crossed hopefulness, and coins in wishing wells.

Glad he's removed from QB oversight.  Next good move will be to remove his play calling duties.  Give him more time to come into his own as a budding OC...

So how does that work practically?  Take turns being the guy to call plays and do strategy?  I know that isn’t the way it works but seems pretty awkward if both guys are not on the same page in every way on how to move forward on O.
Maybe this is temporary until Sat finds a new gig. Seems like a big demotion to me.

I'd be much more secure in my position as a "co" by being the one hired to develop the highest rated recruit in NU history.

The other guy gets to help Fidone on when to do the "hush" after a TD.  Hint, it's not to the home crowd.

Sherrone Moore won a title and is the OL coach and OC.  Are you mad out OC isn’t a QB coach?

You may have missed my posts.  I think Satt should be removed altogether as many on this board wants him "developed," but this obvious sign of non-trust to remove Satt from influencing the most important position on the team, and still keep him as an OC, is mind boggling.

Pulling up this old thread just to show how things have changed since it was started.

Frost is now richer than ever in Arizona and seeking the UofA coaching job.  Nebraska is recovering under Rhule.

If Arizona wants a losing culture, an elevated bar scene, and a 25-hour-a-week 2nd shift coach who looks lost on a Saturday, I know their guy.

I hear Alabama is still accepting applications for bandwagon fans….if you’re interested.

I'll take riding this out to reputability where we can actually call any other program a clown show.

Gotta win something to get that repute.

That's a simple one and one where I'm actually impressed with Satterfield.  He went to a way more run heavy offense trying to use the option.  Yes....we still had to pass some.  No offense today could run 100% of the time.

But....if Dylan is really as good as advertised and we have decent WRs, expect next year to be way more like what he really wants to run (while still being simplified some due to a true freshman QB).  And, I expect us to pass more.

I do hope I'm wrong.  It's not fun to pay people that aren't working for you anymore.

We'll see with an upgraded room how well Satterfield can do.  I don't trust it especially when there's teasers that Dana H. is available.

This is the 4th place he's been on Rhule's staff.  Rhule has picked him 4 times.  They worked together at Western Carolina prior to that.

Again, not saying he's the right guy, but he needs a chance with a full deck.  Or something closer to one than he had.

Firstly - I believe Rhule is the guy.  He obviously likes Satt.  Rhule's one-second-running opinion on the matter is infinitely weightier than all fans' opinions.

Rhule did handpick Sims.  So he's not batting 1.000.  But, Rhule is the guy.

The '22 commentary on Satt, from those players, was rough.  His situational play calling and complexity as notables.  With Sims and HH as some of the worst we've had, how did Satterfield adjust to either improve either or mitigate their known weaknesses?   HH's decision making and mechanics regressed throughout the year.  He threw sidearm and had no mentality to read a D and make a good choice, much less deliver an. accurate ball.

The man in charge of that room followed Rhule to NU and now is responsible for developing our highest rated recruit of all time.

You think Satt is a "D" tier coach..??

"The players and results from his last job would agree."

His last job, 2 yrs at South Carolina..??  first year having QB injury issues and having to play 4 QB's ending the season with 7 wins then the following season with 8 wins beating Tennessee, Clemson and breaking many offensive production records..??

Satt may not be a splash hire but he obviously has the work ethic that Matt Rhule demands and a coaching style that seems to motivate those under him...  He also has 2 years left on a substantial contract and only 1 year working with a very difficult situation in the QB, running back and receivers room last year...

My guess is we will get him some help scheming and with the young men we have brought into said rooms, lets see what he can do with a full cupboard..

This thought about just tossing an OC out after 1 yr is ludicrous and does absolutely nothing towards building continuity which is essential for turning a program around..

    JMHO.

The cost of bad hires is more pronounced given the landscape of college football.  Having a bad OC at the same time as pulling in the school's highest rated recruit, an offensive player, at the most critical position on a team, is something to key on.

Hope I'm wrong, but Satterfield does not seem to be the guy.

It doesn't take much effort to find a slew of commentary and takes about how bad he was at SC.  Couple those comments with the results we saw last year, and he rightfully should be scrutinized.
