  1. It definitely is what's needed. And everyone from Bill Moose to Matt Davison to Scott Frost know this. If we can keep most of these guys here for as long as Frost is here we will be in good shape. The problem with good assisstants anywhere is that they typically will move up to a coordinator or head coach once they have success. If you can find some good assistants who dont want to ever be a head coach then you need to keep them. I think we may have a few on our staff, and Husker fans have already tried to run one of them out of town. When it comes to our defensive coordinators, Husker nation is notoriously harsh. Many of our fans cast their frustrations of the whole team on our DC. Its always been this way here, going back to Mcbride. It amazed me how in a season where our QB play, WR play, Offensive Line play, were all bigger problems than our defense, yet so many fans not just on here, but on radio shows wanted Chinander out , but yet almost noone wanted Verduzco gone. I happen to think Chinander will be a great DC and he might be happy in that role.
  2. Ok maybe Carl was the good defensive coach, i just remember our defense being good while Bo was here, and it would be hard for anyone to adjust their defense from the Big12 to the Big10. Which is when he had some struggles. If he cared for recruiting he would be pretty good. Personally, i didnt mind his temper. Its a passionate game. And most the time he really went off were times he should have been mad. There was some bs stuff we endured that last year in the big12.
  3. Lets all come to an agreement. Bo is a good DC, not a great head coach. The sideline antics and his temper were not a big deal. People who use that as a reason to support Bo's failure, well they are just being lame. I liked the passion, so did most of his players. It came down to the fact he didn't like recruiting and he was not good with the media. It had nothing to do with his sideline personality, or his rants. Bo knows defense.
  4. Very true. People just dont think of them in the same regard as Clemson or OSU cause they haven't won it all yet. They are probably the most consistently good team that hasn't won the Championship in a long time. But they should be. I mean they have more talent that should favor them, than anyone else. They are right up their with Florida and Texas for most bluechip recruits. Yet they dont share the state with multiple other teams, like Texas teams do or Florida teams do. Plus 2 of the greatest dynasties ever happen to hug their border. I bet if it weren't for Bama and Clemson, Georgia would have a Ship by now.
  5. I am very excited for our future, it is just hard to wait. Next year, if we can get good QB play we still have a chance to be fairly good. The one experienced group we have is our OLine, although they are Riley's recruits, so do they fit our system? If they can , and we get good QB play, our offense should be fairly good. Our defense will be very young though. If we make a bowl game i like where this is headed.
  6. Completely understated fact. And I was one of the people who thought we had more talent than most of our division, until i really looked into our roster, so im not pointing fingers. Also agree the 2018 class was like a band aid, and after attrition, really wasn't that great. Thats why i say we need 1 more year....most our best players either just arrived last year, or are arriving this year. We are so young. Even in Frost's 3rd year we will be so young.
  7. Thank God for so many players leaving state, cause if not Nebraska wouldn't have a chance. And USC, and most of the SEC would be light years ahead of everyone else. Same with OSU, but OSU IS light years ahead
  8. Georgia routinely recruits top 5 classes. I think they just haven't had the right coach. Also, they have been consistently very good, just haven't won a championship. A couple SEC title games though. I suspect that Alabama has stolen what would have been Georgia Title games or playoff births. The Bama dynasty has hurt Georgia as much as anyone, plus they share a border, it isn't very far from Georgia to Tuscaloosa.
  9. Great post. I dont have anything to add to it, i just want to reinforce what you said about our recruiting classes. After attrition and plenty of busts, our recruiting classes were on par with the worst in the BIG. That doesn't even take into account that we haven't had a unified direction for what we want to do, so even many of our solid players dont fit this system as well as their rankings. We truly have lacked the "Dudes" to be a good team. We have many in our upcoming freshman and sophmore classes....but they will be just freshman and sophmores. There is quite a difference between an 18 year old.....and a 21 year old with 3 or 4 years of coaching, nutrition, and training. Its super hard for me, even knowing this, to be patient. But I believe we need to be patient for 1 more year. If we even make a bowl next year, the future looks really bright. Lets try not to destroy our livers before oir redemption comes a callin.
  10. Wanted to add. You can see why Ohio State has been so good for so long. And why the SEC has been, its almost surprising that the SEC hasn't been deeper. On the flip side, its pretty impressive that Wisconsin, Iowa, Iowa State, and Minnesota have all had recent success, and that Kansas State, Nebraska, and Colorado all had such success not too long ago. This whole Region from Colorado all the way to Wisconsin has very few highly rated recruits, and yet quite a bit of P5 programs, its impressive that most of these schools have been as decent as they have been. Anyhow, if anyone has any input on our recruiting Advantages or Disadvantages, maybe discuss. I do think that the recruiting services dont spend much time on states like Minnesota or Nebraska, and go where they can bang alot of recruits out in a close area. Cause there seems to be no way that there is never a year, some kid from North Dakota or Wyoming would be in the top freaking 40 in Georgia. I mean i get it..theres not many people here, and even less black people, but there has to be an occasional stud nomatter where you are.
  11. I wasn't sure where to put this but I found this interesting and a bit shocking. Looking at a chart on where the best recruits are. 4* and 5* recruits in the past 5 years: -47 combined in Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Wyoming, and Colorado -173 in Georgia -73 in Loisiana -70 in Ohio -39 in Michigan -21 in Oklahoma -59 in Alabama Even if we got EVERY single top recruit, in the EIGHT states closest to us, for FIVE YEARS in a row, we would still have less talent (per recruiting rankings) than if Alabama, Ohio State, or LSU just got every top player in their state. We would still have less talent than if Georgia just got 1/3 of their instate recruits and no out of state recruits. Even Michigan can get almost as much talent just in their home state as we can in our 8 closest. USC could never leave L.A. and get as much talent as we can in our entire region. In that region their are 7 schools competing for those recruits (Us, Iowa, Iowa State, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri). In Alabama its just 2 (Bama , Auburn). In Ohio just 1 (OSU) In Louisiana just 1 (LSU) in Georgia just 2 (Georgia , GTech) In Michigan just 2 (Michigan, Mich State) We are probably in the hardest region to recruit in the entire country. Less talent per P5 team than anywhere else. Also Wisconsin and Minnesota are hard places to recruit.
  12. Good points. To be honest i think this downfall of Nebraska football was a good thing for us. We seriously needed the humbling. Much like Alabama could use a downfall about now. I love the passion of our fan base, and it is possible we have the best fans in college football. But we certainly aren't without some major warts. After being so lucky to have not only 2 of the greatest football coaches of all time, but also to have them both for decades. Our entire fan base basically expected this school in the middle of the northern plains to be in the top 5 every year. Also, as nice as we were to opposing fans that were witnessing their beloved team get belittled and beat up, we could be spoiled, mean, brats to our own coaches and players. Their are only a handful of programs with expectations as high as Nebraska has had. Notre Dame, Alabama, LSU, USC, OSU, Oklahoma, maybe Texas or Michigan. Of those, all of them have talent coming out their own a$$ except for us, Notre Dame, Michigan and Oklahoma. Oklahoma is much closer to talent than us. Basically we stand alone with Michigan and maybe Notre Dame for the most rediculous expectations. And neither of them have done much better than us. I feel like most of our fan base has been humbled enough to see the light, so that if we ever get back into a Championship game we will appreciate it for what its worth again. And so if we win 10 games and just miss on the playoff we wont whine about our coaches and players and actually be thankful for, and enjoy the season despite narrowly missing the playoff. I think we are ready now, and yes we needed all 20 years of this cause even after 10 years of being a normal football program, our fans still thought we were entitled to be a permanent top 5-10 team. We still thought a trained monkey could finish top 10 in the middle of Canada, which is what Nebraska is to most of the best players.
  13. That is one game. Look at the entire season and Iowa has clearly been at least one notch above us. Anyone other than Husker homers can see Iowa is on a different level than us. However that should be changing over the next few years.
  14. I looked at their rankings and your right. Our top RB recruits have been ranked between 25-50. With the exception of Washington who was ranked 11th best RB in the class. I also understand that ratings dont mean everything , for example Ameer Abdullah wasn't highly rated but he ended up being one of the top 5 RB in the country. Also another poster pointed to Ozigbo being good. Looks like i exaggerated a bit, i guess my point is Nebraska football has always had very good RBs. Even in our recent mediocrity, our RBs went from Helu to Burkhead to Abdullah. We have always had one of the top 5-10 backs in the country it seems. Just seeing that their are 25 RB in each class that are supposedly better than any of our RBs on our roster this upcoming year. That would be approximately 50 total freshman and sophmore RBs on some other team that are better than our best RB. Again, that doesn't mean we will have the 50th best RB in college football over the next 3 or 4 years, but those ratings are all we have to go on right now. It just shows how much of a dive our program has taken recently, when we used to get some of the best backs in the country......and now we are excited about guys that are projected to be average Power 5 running backs.
  15. I admit i haven't looked at the rankings post attrition. But i have looked at OUR roster in great depth. And we have very little talent in our upcoming Junior and Senior classes. Less than Iowa, hell..less than Purdue. When people look at our recruiting rankings they are ignoring attrition..i agree with you on that. I am sure Iowa had more talent than us last year on the field. I imagine POST-attrution rankings would show that , but simply the eye test made it clear. Iowa has some ballers. It is humbling to say, but Iowa had more talent than us last year, including some young guys. We dont have a running back I have seen, as good as Iowa's freshman. Hopefully Sevion or Scott can be that for us. But lets be honest, we are all excited about RB rated in the 50ish range. We used to have some of the best RBs in the country, now we get giddy over a 40-50th best back in the country. Hopefully a bit of diamonds in the rough.
  16. They just look like better athletes than we have. We called a bad game, and AM played bad, but we played harder than any other game of the year. Iowa has some talent, and their freshman RB looked really good. Something we havent been able to say ourselves. Nebraska hasn't had a good RB in a while.
  17. Isn't it much easier to call plays from up in the booth? I always thought it was hard to see what is open, and what looks like will work against the defense, from the sideline.
  18. So corny that it actually worked.
  19. Iowa has been decent for a long time now and sometimes very good. And its very hard to beat them in a rivalry game, in Iowa City. That was one hell of a win by Bo. I dont even think Eichorst believed what he was saying. They do have much better talent than their recruiting rankings. They are getting some skill guys too. That freshman RB they got already looks very good.
  20. When you are helplessly digging for a reason why a 1-1 TD to INT ratio is ok..........you MIGHT be a Martinez. Didnt know how to finish that joke..... point is its terrible..stop looking for an explanation that can include your baseless posts of Martinez being not so bad this year.
  21. Look guys, when I of all people have to mediate you two, its a shot to the ego for sure. But both of you are not as differentiating as you act. It is unfair to expect us to return to the dominance of the mid 90's, who ever expects their program to be one of the greatest in all of time?? It is never expected that way, sometimes it just happens. And i dont think either of you expect that. Look at Clemson. They are what we were in the 90's. Same to Alabama prior to Clemson. Neither program could expect that prior to it happening. Greatness on that high of a level is always a mix of doing the right things PLUS a lil luck! That is why it is so hard to do. I believe Frost and Co are doing the right things, but unless we get extremely lucky and things fall into place in a way only the stars could align, that doesn't mean dominance of the likes of the mid 90's. Noone in their right mind could expect that. Being a consistent top 15, sometimes top 5 team is what CAN happen. Maybe a Championship or 2 in the next 20 years if things fall into place. It is hard to see it now, coming off of 3 seasons with no bowl, but we are not necessarily many years away from being a top 10 team. As far as Championships are concerned that will take some luck. Always does. We get the right QB, and as long as our defense is headed in the right direction we can be one of the top 5-10 teams. Noone at NU is content being a consistent 8-4 / 9-3 team. But it takes a few years to get above that when you were where we were.
  22. Not sure, but the poster was right that we got off topic. Kudos to Frost.
  23. Thank you for the civil response. Much better than "your a narcissist cause you believe AM was a bad QB last year." Or "wow". I mean if AM happened to be Noah Vedral this convo wouldnt happen. The irony of the situation is i happen to have trust issues with white older males (that is the reason i mentioned it)..for a reason. So although noone knows this, nor cares, it is quite ironic TO ME when someone claims my beliefs are based on race, when quite the opposite is true.
  24. Ill just use SouthLincolHusker's response for this one.
  25. What we had was a worse version of Taylor Martinez. Now Adrian hopefully turns it around, but as far as last year goes there is no denying that he was worse than TMart. But according to some on here, that is only my opinion cause he is Hispanic or darker than white. So here come's Antifa, coming to hang the guy who hates whatever Adrian is (btw my worst enemies have all been white)
