  1. Thanks HILW.... I'd buy it if I could. There's weird rules up here about if a Canadian Broadcaster doesn't carry a channel, US providers still will not sell it to me because of my location. It's stupid....
  2. Do you guys have a video? North of the border (and surrounded by some snow) I've only located an audio link for today's game.
  3. Good.start!!!! Kudos to special teams on that one....they were due!
  4. Just superficial observation, but I've been okay with Jameis, Barnhart & even Piper since he replaced Wilson. Farniok has sadly been a pylon at times, some of which I really think has to be out on S&C. He should not be trying to carry 330 as he's lost all his nimbleness. And Jurgens has arguably been the weakest link on the whole offensive unit. I'm all for giving kids multiple chances but the young man has repeatedly demonstrated that in live games (which is far more important than practice), he cannot reliably snap the ball. So to Coach Frost's comment he has too much athleticism to keep off the field? Fine, but it can't be at center. Plug him in a left guard or right guard and let Farniok and Piper fight it out for the center position. My frustration with Frost is I'd be willing to wager that Jurgens got first team snaps at center again, instead of using the week to prepare someone else. Fingers crossed (and a hat tip to Coach Frost) if he proves me wrong. I sooooo hope he proves me wrong....
  5. I probably just screwed up the thread by adding a parallel thought into the "Adrian Martinez" thread. My bad.....
  6. Just overlapping into the Offensive Plays thread a bit, what I would love to see is out personnel masquerading our actual intentions for a change. Bring Scott in as RB, along with our best blocking TE's on one side on the right, and 1 WR spread out wide all on his own on the left. Run play action the Scott towards the TE side (pulling the safeties in that direction) with that WR as the first read and if it's a 50/50 ball throw it up anyway. If the CB is blanketing the WR, then the QB starts an RPO rolling behind the two TE's with the outside TE initially engaging his block for 2 seconds and then releasing as the second read. The QB then has the RPO choice as he's rolling to his right. Hell you could really throw them off by putting an OL (Corcoran, Banks or Gaylord come to mind) in as the inside TE.
  7. My key argument being that running inside we've been far more likely to get 2 or 3 yards, while outside and lateral it feels like more often than not we're losing 1 or 2 yards. It could also be argued that the personnel packages are clearly telegraphing the playcall allowing the opposing defense a HUGE advantage, which is also playing a role in our outcomes. If you only run inside with Scott, and he comes into the game, and the opposing DC immediately says "Hey, they're running inside again. Run blitz between the tackles and cheat the safeties up.". Subsequent failures on those plays are not solely on the OL. On the contrary the majority of the blame should go on the OC. It's like blaming your bad cards for losing in a poker hand while having those cards facing your opponent.
  8. Just a suggestion..... Get the media team to do a video after each game and post all the opposition's holding plays that were not called. Then label each as "378 consecutive snaps without a holding call on opposing offensive lines.", "379 consecutive snaps without a holding call on opposing offensive lines.", etc. To make even more effective they could post the Nebraska OL penalties to, and label as "14 consecutive snaps without a holding call, then this was called." The contrast of both the penalties called and not called along with number of snaps in between will speak for itself and clearly highlights the problem, while denying the haters any ability to claim we're whining.
  9. The extra "u" makes me feel more fancy.
  10. I'd like to see him too, but I'm more interested in quicker hitting run plays where our OL shoots forward as opposed to lateral plays where you're asking our guys to run sideways while maintaining good blocks. It appears that in response to our predilection to run those lateral plays, that opposing defenses are running a lot of hard slants which are creating a significant amount of penetration, and too many plays with negative yards. So as much as I like RJ, ripping those higher risk lateral run plays (and pass plays for that matter) from our playbook would be my first request.
  11. There should be post game reviews of stuff like that and if either a coach or player is deemed to have committed such a foul, they should be suspended for a half game for first offense, and full game for any subsequent offenses. You would hope with the threat of public shaming (which does not exist know from league officials) that the behaviour will stop. It's bush league and is a horrible precedent for coaches and players to set as role models for younger kids.
  12. That makes me very happy. The way he landed on his neck was terrifyingly.
  13. Do you happen to have any stats on "negative plays"? It feels like we run more behind the LOS high risk plays than anyone else, and get nailed for negative yards more than anyone else...and given our struggles to move the ball at all, that seems like a bad predisposition for our OC to have.
  14. I was thinking exact same thing. 1. Hard to really assess Wentz due to lack of talent around him. 2. Lack of talent at Receiver positions. So many dropped balls. The announcers ran a lot of screen freezes showing how open the receivers were and time after time, they were blanketed. Then there was another young TE who ran the wrong route which lead to a critical INT. 3. OL was actually worse than ours. On passing downs he rarely had more than "two steamboats" before getting hit. It's kinda like Sam Darnold on the Jets too. I think QB's can only get pounded so often like that and whether it's conscious or not, I think their brains lose an ability to focus. The ball snaps and they're just immediately in a panic mode which makes going through reads next to impossible. 4. And to add a cherry to it, some really questionable playcalling which compounded all the other issues. In addition to the OC not wanting to call run plays between the tackles which appeared to be their most consistent play, with Philadelphia down 10 points in the 4th quarter, instead of kicking the easy field goal to put them within one score, they go for it on 4th down, don't convert, and game is over. It was definitely a deja vu experience....
  15. I had made the assumption Gunnerson was going to be in full "rehab mode" this season after his hip surgery. Fingers crossed that went well and he can start to contribute a little more in 2021.
  16. Who do we have as depth behind Domann, Payne, Nelson and Tannor at OLB? Is Hannah still outside? I think I read he had switched from inside during Fall Camp. His high school film was excellent but I haven't really heard his name mentioned since arriving on campus. I know we also have Alston with a couple years under his belt, Butler, Graham (DE?), Schleger (sp? - the CSU transfer), Cooper (saw him on special teams the other day). Any of these guys (or someone I've missed) earning a sniff of playing time any time soon?
  17. For the record I was totally behind the Scott Frost hire. I thought he was the perfect candidate to reset the culture. I thought we were going to get the best of what I thought I saw of Frost as a QB, mixed in with the wisdom of Tom Osborne. That being said, I’m more than a little disappointed at the lack of his evolution as the CEO of his team. There have been enough examples of first-year coaches coming in and successfully turning around a team and getting better on the field results after one offseason and one recruiting class. He should have had enough time by now to see strong evidence the ship is turning. This year I had no expectation of beating OSU. That would be an unfair ask. But this year I was hoping for more games where the key takeaways weren’t us all analyzing the multiple ways the team managed to shoot off its own toes. That should have ended long ago. The fact it hasn’t should be a huge red flag to Coach Frost that his staff, on some very fundamental level, is doing some key things wrong. They need to do that uncomfortable deep dive and without bias identify what the ugly truths are and as a unit target the key issues one at a time and get them fixed. More than anything else they need to find a way to end this season on a stronger note than they started it, so they can build momentum heading into 2021.
  18. In the above context, define what you mean by “player development”? To me if you look at Wandale in particular, as an individual player he’s developed just fine. He’s fast enough. He’s strong enough. He seems to know his part of playbook and when given the ball executes with fumbling. It is the system and play calling that are hindering his results. Big question is are we really having a player development issue? Or a coaching development issue?
  19. There’s also a great position for guys with that combination of strengths and weaknesses. They call them “guards”. Seriously, give him the week and have Jurgens and Farniok swap spots for the next game. It can’t be much worse.
  20. That is totally quotable....love it.
  21. He was in for the goal line play where the Iowa RB cut back into empty space for the walk in TD. Everyone else on the defensive front slanted hard to their left and pushed back their OL, but Payne just submarined the guy opposite him which not only created the cutback lane, but also cutoff Williams from making the play from the backside (he tried to hurdle over Payne to get there but couldn’t make it).
  22. I can probably name 80% of the last two recruiting classes off the top of my head. What I’m struggling with is as of today how many of those guys are actually left! So throw shade at me all you want. The proof of failure is in the transfers.
  23. That’s a cop out. You watch almost any other college team and true and redshirt freshmen get rotated in regularly. If Frost can’t find those guys then that means he still needs to look in the mirror as his staff is failing in recruiting and/or development.
  24. If you’re not executing at an 80% level, you give someone else some snaps to see what they can do. When you’re executing at below 50% level, you platoon your top three guys and after review of a full game tape with shared snaps, you re-order your depth chart. You simply cannot let Nelson play the way he does and just keep pretending everything is fine and nothing needs to change. I should add that based on the play of the ILB’s it might be wise to get Ruud involved in mentoring the kid to see if he can get through to Nelson as his current position coach is most certainly not.
