I hear you about the too many commercials.  The genius thing about YouTube TV is that you can fast forward through them, which is what I do.

Game starts at 11.  I have it saved and ready to watch, but I don't start watching until noon.  Pause it at halftime too, and grill some food. Then come back and watch the 2nd half.

I know that's not a traditional viewing experience, but there is so many breaks in the game.....  I just don't want to deal with that for 3 hours plus.

It makes watching the game more enjoyable skipping through the commercials and right to the action.

Have to be suspicious of anything Youtube/google tho.

College Football is changing rapidly and although today things may seem stable, I don't trust it. The networks are calling the shots and it is very concerning for the future of college football. This round of realignment and media deals completely wiped out a athletic conference that has been around for 100+ years. No one is safe and that includes Nebraska. We got lucky back when we join the Big Ten, our brand was very strong, we had history and not only were we playing competitive football, the Nebraska fans were an attractive market for the Big Ten. But the last 10 years we have been mediocre to down right bad.

My concern is the next round of media rights and discussions may see non-competitive programs and teams being kicked out of conferences. I get when Rutgers and Maryland joined it was to gobble up the TV markets as that was seen as a big deal, but I think what ESPN and FOX are going to be wanting in the next round is simply competitive games every single Saturday. They want people glued to their TV's all day Saturday, similar to how the NFL runs Sunday's. I think these networks will realize that they'd rather have Michigan vs USC and Ohio State vs Penn State type of games then Ohio State vs Maryland or having to air Purdue vs Northwestern.

I could see the Big Ten getting rid of teams like Maryland, Rutgers, maybe even Indiana and Purdue to make room for teams like Clemson, FSU and Miami. With geography, traditions and rivalries out the window, the Big Ten/FOX could be looking to make Saturday's as jam packed as possible with top winning programs knowing college football fans from all over are going to tune in and watch, instead of focusing on getting the New Jersey TV market for an awful Rutgers program.

If Nebraska doesn't start winning and becoming competitive, I worry when that TV deal comes back up and that is the philosophy of the networks, that Nebraska may not qualify for a spot at the table. At this time we will be nearing 20 years of irrelevancy on the big stage and our small market sized state suddenly doesn't have all that much to offer. Do we travel well? Heck yes we do, Nebraska fans are the sole reason we likely got into the Big Ten originally and certainly has been the only reason this program continues to hold a big name brand, but with less and less emphasis on ticket sales, and the uncertainty of if the new generation of Nebraska fans will be as loyal as the previous generation, man I don't know if we become that attractive.

It's worrisome times, I don't trust any of it, and the only way to make sure we remain worthy of qualifications to a big time conference is to win. I love college football, but these are some ugly times.

Too much money in college football and it is ruined.  I just watch and do other things now.  When enough devices tune out things will change

We never hire elite assistants. We never think about Adidas costing us elite talent. We never hire a Black head coach. We never have an elite throwing QB, always with a “dual threat” leftovers. We never maximize our spending and resources to get the Dylan Raiola type QB. Nebraska really has turned into the flyover state for big time recruits. Deion was the perfect hire for a quick turn around and we didn’t even try. Nebraska will never be good again because of Nebraskans. We are probably getting Trumped as far as NIL goes, saying we have the money when we don’t.

Well you got the part about not hiring a black HC right.

University founded in like 1890.  Hundreds of head coaches in all sports.  Zero black head coaches

This is a f#&%up hire.  A mistake by Trev or whoever is calling the shots (7.5 mill check writer.) Nebraska is not Texas.  This is not the Big 12.  Rhule will ulimately get to 7 ish wins at NU, be fired, and someone will write another 7.5 mill check.   It is getting ridiculous.  If Mickey is not assistant head coach, and lead recruiter I am out.  Way to go NU, you had a Black HC for as long as you could stand it I guess.

It is not that I get tired of being right or being able to see the obvious.  It is just that there are so many damn koolaid drinking people with real short memories. Collin calls them mouth breathers.  So, how do you like your crow?  Breasted and fried with some Lawry's and Lemon pepper?

Maybe it bears repeating.   There is a way to win in Lincoln and it will work in the Big 18 conference.  But you have to follow the formula that was laid out by Bob Devaney and TO.   You have to have the right coach, not just any big name available on the market.  Nebraska can supply the big strong boys that you can turn into bigger, stronger men.  But you have to go out and get the speed.  SUB 4.4 guys you can coach into blanket corners and lightning fast slot receiver/ flankers.

You have to go get the 4.6 6'2" 200 lb kids and turn them into 4.4 230 lb outside linebackers so you can handle the Michigans, Wisconsins, and the Ohio States.   And you need them four deep.

Hire a random big name, with some random coordinator friends from South Carolina, keep a line coach on staff because of who his nephew is, and then go out to the broader market and recruit for the same QBs and WRs that Alabama and Georgia are after, and see what happens.   Not going to work in Lincoln NE.

That and he doesn't understand that there was an exhaustive search for the best qualified coach. I'm sure many of them said no thanks. Maybe things would've turned out different if Mickey hadn't been hamstrung by Whipple and Thompson's inability to just get a first down when it was needed. I think some fans don't understand that this is all about building a solid Wisconsin/ Penn State type foundation that will be consistent every game on both sides of the ball and not about just firing up the boys. Trev should've made Whipple the interim because now we see the can of worms he opened and wonder if Mickey's presence on the staff would cause dissension. I don't think it will, but you wonder when you hear so many fans complaining.

This is what I don't get.  Mickey is not being demoted or fired.  By his title, he is the Temporary Head Coach.  Not giving him the Full-Time Head Coach is not a demotion.

Yes, I agree that it would be great if NU were able to hire more minority coaches to lead their athletic programs, however, NU also needs to hire the best person for this job, regardless of race.

Its his job to lose HC > Receivers Coach

  8. I was mildly shocked to learn that Mickey was the first Black head coach at NU in any sport.  Now we are in a rush to replace him.  I dont get it.  In a big hurry to spend a wad of cash.  And demote Mickey.  "Keep bringing in the recruits Mickey, and here is your demotion, because you understand, we just need a certain kind of guy. "

When you consider that Mickey is actually teaching the right things, this rush to replace him is stupidity on a whole different level, and NU gets what it deserves.  NU needs Mickey, and the culture he is trying to build, and the recruits he can bring in, and the cash he is not asking for.

  9. Time to quit making the same old mistakes, hiring these guys and paying too much.  Nebraska's best option is to stick with Mickey.  He is doing the right things.  He can go into living rooms and pull the recruits better than any HC here in 20 years.  He actually cares.  If you dont believe me, go ahead and hire another expensive random white dude and see how many 4 - Five star  Omaha and SEC dudes he gets to Lincoln NE.  Let me know how that goes for ya.   There are 3 guys who could turn this around.   Saban,  Urban, and Mickey. 2 of them are going to pull the dudes because of who they are, and those 2  ain't coming.  The other one gives Nebraska a fresh new face in todays world, a genuine ability to recruit, and coach the right things.  But anybody will come here and take your money.

  10. Iowa is not our rival.  You only have one maybe two rivals.

For example Michigan has Ohio St,  Michigan St.

Iowa to us right now is a project like a broke down motor.  You kick its a$$, make it do what you want, then move on with life.  You dont hate it.  You just take care of it.

We are coming off a 3-9 season (regardless of the statistically anomalous nature of that record) and are 1-2 in three games against opponents we were all favored by double digits over. Unless Mickey Joseph turns out to be a prodigy, I am guessing this season will result in a similarly abysmal record to last year. I would love if a coach could come in here and win 9 games the first season, but that is simply not realistic as a hard expectation for year one. If you told me I had to choose between a coach who will lead us to 7 wins the first season but plateau at 9 wins, or a coach who will have a losing season but in three years will lead us to 11-1, a conference title, and a spot in the playoffs, I will take the latter in a heartbeat. I don't just want to have winning seasons. This program has the basic structure that it should be able to regularly compete for the division and the conference, and yes, I will say it, eventually compete here and there for playoff spots.

EDIT: And I will damn well refuse to hear anyone who says "Oh Nebraska can never compete at the level of Alabama or Ohio State again." No, I do not ever expect the mid 90s again, but you can win anywhere, and certainly you can become a nationally competitive program when your program, up until 20 years ago, was the winningest program of the past 30 years. (Not that I'm accusing you of this, Huskerfollower4life. Just venting at the naysayers who think it's impossible to win at Nebraska now for some inexplicable reason, like we somehow magically became less easy to recruit to or win at instead of it being a problem that can be solved.)

Ive had the opportunity to watch more bowl games than ever due to work scheduleing and it seems like the average player is not giving as much as they did before.  Now this is just my observation but in the bowl games ive been watching dont really see people giving it there all.  To win a rose bowl, or fiesta bowl just to be there seemed like it meant alot more.  Do you think its the college football playoff being set as the ultimate goal and if your not in those final 4 spots then whats the point.  Is that why we are seeing more people opt out of playing in bowl games.  Or is it this new crop of kids and how they look at there future prospects or value that is making the difference.  Is it the development of the NIL that has put players in the driverseat of there own future as far as earnings outside of the NFL.  And are we the ones who are the ones thinking like dinosaurs.  It seems that alot of us are just ok with a person sacrificing there body for our entertainment with no monumental reimbersement for themselves other than possibly a free college education and the possible prospects of having a future career.

I started thinking about this during the ohio st game when they talked about how many players they had opt out.  But you have a team like Utah who seemingly wanted to put i tall on the line for pride.  Either way you look at there has been a shift that started with the playoffs and now with NIL there has been a change.  Was wanting to hear what the groups thoughts were on the subject.

    1. Too much money in it

    2. Too many commercials.

    3.  Too many attorneys.

    4. Too many replays

    5. Taking tv timeouts during targeting replays to determine if a kid should be kicked out.

    6. Poorest officiating ever. (dependent on replay booth officials)

    7. Cant hit anyone.

    8. Penalty on every punt return.

    9.  Full grown men who don't know what a catch is.

    10.  Too many rules.

Why can teams call timeouts before a play srarts or just to ice a kicker?  In basketball can a coach call a timeout right before a shooter releases a free throw?

Why do quarterbacks get to slide?

Why are there times a team can't advance a fumble?

    Which communist invented "targeting?"

How come if a receiver crosses the plane of the goal with  a freshly caught ball they have to survive contact with the ground, but a running back can cross the plane, fall down and fumble, but it still is a touchdown?
