Coach Cook is a treasure. He every bit deserves to be mentioned in the same vane as Devaney and Osborne. What an absolute class act.

Then he gets paid out the remaining 2 years on his contract. I don’t see how there can be anyone thinking that Rhule could/should put Mickey on his staff.
Fair enough.

There is no sense any comments around when it’s ok for a man to “assault” a woman. That just should stop. Mickey has been placed on administrative leave, and it would make zero sense for Trev and Rhule to wait for the legal system to go through its process to retain Mickey as part of the new staff. Cut ties with Mickey, and hope that he can save whatever relationship he has with his wife and kids. If Mickey does end up being guilty of the crime, NU would be able to recoup the final 2 years on his contract, as he would he terminated for cause.
And if it turns out he was not guilty in the least, what? Dang Mickey, sorry?

Makes me think back, and how there are so many words to describe what's happened here. They're all over the place. The main thing is that now we're hoping that Joseph can take these same kids and make them do different things by just enough to give us a winning season, otherwise why fire Frost at this point instead of letting him continue through October or even the rest of the season? Somebody expects something.
My expectations can't coalesce much right now as to the new coach coming in (IF a new coach comes in, T.O. and others are intimating that Mickey Joseph can do well here). If we hire a new guy for megabux then here we go again on the "next season" thing, lather/rinse/repeat.
I just don't know what to expect anymore. It'd be wonderful to have that Husker dream come true, wherein we see 9+ wins per season. But.........
I really, really hope that Mickey's influence shows on game days. Wins would be great but noticable improvement would be huge in my books. I'm not sold on the "next big name'. Mickey is in the same boat that Dabo Sweeney was in when he got his chance.

When Scott Frost was hired to coach this dumpster fire, he was given a seven year contract. I was all for that. But now, thinking back I had expectations. I was all for seven years to return us to being competitive on the national championship level. At least being in the conversation consistently. I just assumed he'd have winning records from year one, even if it was just 6-6 the first year. I certainly didn't even suspect it would go the other way.
At one point, I felt that a good coach could come in and turn things around by year two and be near the top by year four. But the Huskers have been a mess for almost 20 years now. Begs the question, how long will it take for even a good coach to get the ship righted? The transfer portal and the endorsement $$ opportunities do change the equation I think.
Forget who gets hired, If we get a "good" guy, what are the expectations for:
Year 1:
Year 2:
Year 3:
Year 4:
When does the leash end and we look for the next coach up?

I've not had a lot of time (and to be honest interest) in Spring football this year.
Browsing this thread, it seems we've had a bad spring, no players, coaching changes and misses on the portal.
Compared to prior years where "this unit or that unit has made great strides' and "probably the best Spring training we've seen in years" and "some young guys are ready to make meaningful contributions".....perhaps with all the negativity, this will be our year?????
Heh heh. See you on Saturday. GO BIG RED!!!!!!!

Not to derail this thread, but I wasn't aware if Dylan Raiola. Couple years away but that kid can sling the ball. Almost makes me dare to dream again. Almost. Lots of ifs between now and a couple years from now.

At this point, I don't think we should get overly excited about "what could be"....
There are too many options that are up in the air....so although anxious to see who it is, I'm not really willing to get all fired up until we have formal announcements.....
Until then, fingers crossed.
Youre no fun! But I suspect you weren't here for the million post, can't update fast enough speculation frolic that was the sock puppet head coach thread before Riley was hired. Ah...good times.

For the record, you are saying that Adrian Martinez is worse than Jamaal Lord and Cody Green?
Jeff Quinn?

Funniest comment in ages. Thanks, I needed a laugh.

I am perplexed. I get so frustrated with Martinez I could bash my TV. Yet today he became the all time leader in total production or some similar stat, passing Tommy Armstrong. And that with a shorter season last year. Inconsistency is a beach I guess.

Smothers and Yant will leave and enter the transfer portal. Others will follow. I am hoping benhart is one of those.
I was sky high on Benhart. Not anymore. He can move along if he wants

One game. Let's see if it continues for the rest of the season.
You are absolutely right. I have to wonder if the changes on the O-line were brilliant, or if they just benefited from a very poor NW defense. Win or lose, we'll know a lot more after next week or two.

Continuity is only needed if the program is actually making progress. Frost's teams find ways to lose in the most amazing ways in year 4 as they did in year 1. That shouldn't happen. What progress has Frost shown in the 3 1/2 years he has been here? What makes you think that Frost is going to be able to change the trajectory of this program?
Last night.

Nope, for all the obvious continuity reasons, we can't /shouldn't fire Frost right now. And yes, most anywhere else he' be gone, but this isn't anywhere else. This is where we've gone through coaches like (insert favorite equivalent here).
I would hope that Trev does demand a change to Special Teams and I'd be for sending Austin packing right now. Change is needed, soon. But not Frost. Not yet.

There goes Martinez sucking again with a huge touchdown. Worst player ever. /S

I remember a whole decade where I couldn't even pick up the Sunday paper from the porch if we lost on Saturday. It ruined my week until Wednesday or so when the next game took focus.
Glad I am over that, but I'd still like to have reason for a little bit of that attitude.

Scott Frost has a bad year (I am still totally behind him by the way) and Trev releases him to go coach UCF again in the Big 12.
It could happen.

I never find Nebraska blowouts boring. Relaxing fun.
One of the most fun games I attended was a major blowout against either New Mexico, or New Mexico State way back in the day. Ended up one of those 77 - 10 type of games. There were maybe 10 of their fans up in the corner and they were gone by halftime. So a dozen or so of us went down to the sideline where their cheerleaders were stationed, and did all their cheers along with them. They were having a riot and I think they really appreciated our fun efforts.
Yeah....blowouts were fun.

One of the most fun games I attended was against NM State back around 82 or 83. As normal for that time frame, we were destroying the Aggies. They had maybe 10 fans up in that corner of the stadium. Their cheerleaders were leading cheer for basically no one.
In the second half, a few of us stood down across the fence from then and started cheering along with them. The group grew to a couple dozen dazed and bored husker fans supporting the Aggie cheerleaders. They came over to the fence several times to say how cool it was and to thank us for making their day.
A feel good moment for sure.
