  1. You can tell things are starting to turn for the better. Other schools are having players going into the portal left and right the last couple of weeks and Nebraska hasn't had any. The ones that didn't buy-in/loner /home sick types already left.
  2. I understand what you are saying, but in this case I lean more to him returning than trying the NFL. For one reason, his name has shown up as a graduate yet and that should be priority number one. I don't know if he graduates in the spring or not. Second, he lost a lot of this season so there isn't much to show NFL teams and he wouldn't get drafted. Leaving a scholarship to go underafted and not making an NFL team with no degree is not what one should do. Smart move is to return to school, get the degree, try and put together a good season and see if he can make it to at the very least a practice squad for a couple of years or more.
  3. I am putting money on the table that this will be the year that Fitz leaves Northwestern for the NFL and it will be for the Bears job. He wouldn't need to move the family. Just changes his street address for the employer and driving distance to work still remains the same.
  4. Point: A program can get turned around. Frost will do the same at Nebraska, it will just take longer than it did at the G5 level. https://twitter.com/PeteThamel/status/1340533653810626560?s=20 Pete Thamel @PeteThamel Some amazing stories in 2020. Look at how far the G5 league champs have all come. AAC: Cincinnati – 4-8 in 2017 Sun Belt: Coastal Carolina 3-9 in 2017 MAC: Ball State 2-10 in 2017 Mountain West: San Jose State: 2-11 in 2017 Conference USA: UAB program on pause in 2016 11:45 PM · Dec 19, 2020·Twitter Web App
  5. A lot of bowl games are said to be getting cancelled today. A lot of teams across the country don't want to do deal with the crap that is associated with a bowl game this year. Hell, the playoff semi-final got moved because of COVID-19 protocols that are associated with the location of where the game would have been played. This isn't a normal, fly to bowl location for a week, eat good food, get entertainment, get 15 practices, play a game. It would have been locked in a hotel, some places would have forced quarantine upon arrival, very few restaurant choices would be available, and you would have flown in the day before, play, and fly out the same day. A lot of schools across the country just want this season to end and get back to a normal off-season and a normal season.
  6. I expect Brett to bring a power based rushing offense to IL. IL ran a lot under Lovie Smith, but the schemes will be different. He basically will bring another Wisconsin and Iowa to the Big Ten West as far as running game goes. What does it mean for Nebraska? More prep work for running defense. Nebraska is the only offense it seems that wants to light up the scoreboard. Purdue = all pass. WI = running MN = running Iowa = running NW = running IL = now will be running power The danger that the Big Ten West is now going to get into is limiting their offenses to the point where they aren't going to be able to hang with the top offenses in the Big Ten East in conference title games. Look at today's NW vs OSU game as an example. NW couldn't do anything on offense and when their defense started getting gashed it was game over since NW couldn't keep up. Nebraska will be running the only offense that will have the proper balance to it in the coming years that can compete against the top Big Ten East offenses (high scoring games).
  7. He isn't going to get drafted. He would be better off in the long-run to return, get some more degree based credits (or graduate....no clue where he is at on the path to graduation or getting a masters degree) and a strong 2021 season could possibly get him a shot at the NFL. It isn't happening this year for a shot at the NFL.

    Betts

I wouldn't say they dislike each other (Frost and Benning) but it's pretty obvious Benning doesn't have the "in" with the program. What he does get is good recruiting intel from the Omaha kids.
  9. Yeah, USC is out. I like hearing that another a local P5 school is trying to make a push. That is what you want for high level defensive line recruits. I suspect he still signs tomorrow with Nebraska. There wasn't anything in there that made me think "this will go to February."
  10. There is no mention of him anywhere on the USC 247 board for the targets that they mention for tomorrow. I don't trust anything at Huskeronline for Nebraska recruiting. 247 is where you go for real information. UCLA board mentions being a distant 3rd.
  11. Not signing with MN tomorrow. Don't know if that means he will sign by Friday's deadline with a school, but that essentially means he is a MN decommit at that point.
  12. There's about 200 players in the portal as of tonight. There aren't 200 spots open across the entire P5 after Wednesday when the high school players sign. Players need to be better educated that the grass is not always greener just because something exists that makes it easy to leave and broadcast your name to the rest of college football programs that you can be contacted. In most cases the players that enter the portal end up going to a lower level school and many are never heard from again.
  13. Seniors move on after every college football season. It's expected and reality. Players that get benched because they are stinking it up and not any good at certain parts that is kinda needed should not be a surprise (Warner not catching easy passes for TD's and not being on the field wen he should have and causing a penalty). The Wandale rumor has been there all season long and isn't new. His dad said last month on Twitter it wasn't true. Wandale has 1 more season before he goes to the NFL anyways.
  14. Stoll is a senior lol. Warner= who cares. Wandales dad said last month that it isn't true. Troll better lol.
  15. Could potentially put Nebraska at 3rd in the Big Ten West. Iowa plays Wisconsin and they might be able to beat Wisconsin. I'm sure many have seen the tweets that 10 Big Ten teams have 2 wins. If Nebraska beats Minnesota then they will be 3-4 and in position to compete for a 4-4 record. I stated a few weeks ago that things were not as based as some were felling and now that the passing game is starting to come along the wins will now follow.
  16. No. Wisconsin hasn't won a Rose Bowl since the Barry Alvarez days. They are tough to beat because they make OL their top priority in recruiting and build around that with a straight ahead run game. If you can't stop their run you aren't going to beat them. Frost will be around for a good 20 years plus as long as he is able to to get back to winning seasons in the coming seasons. He will get it done. Nebraska is not that far away from having a winning record. A lot of these games are close. I'm a strong believer that if Frost doesn't get it done, nobody the rest of our lives will. He is the only coach that can come Nebraska and actually understand the place and be willing to stick it out. Look at guys like Bo and Riley, Bo wanted out and Riley gave up. Frost is a fighter and will get things going and once they do fans will enjoy football again.
  17. Fleming is one of those that has all of the physical tools to be a star but the rest isn't there. Like Frost said today, the right type and not just the right athlete type. Gotta have the rest to go with physical ability to make it in college football and the even more so the NFL. Some kids are able to grow and mature and work through the issues while some leave to never be heard from again. Look at Lamar Jackson. Had all of the phsyical tools to be a stud but was soft, didn't play hard, wasn't phsyical and then Coach Fisher got here and coached him hard. Lamar could have packed his bags when he got benched and chewed out, but he took up the coaching and made it to the NFL.
  18. Word has it that he was causing trouble by going through other peoples things in the locker-room, didn't give any effort to build friendships, and was off doing his own thing and he loves himself some IG. Fans love to say "but he was a 4-star".....it's not about the stars anymore once you get to campus. This kid didn't even spend time with the team when they were preparing for the season and left to go back home. Should have not been allowed back, IMO.
  19. The portal as a whole is overrated. Sure there are some great players that go into the portal like Burrow (was not great first year at LSU) and the like, but as a whole kids that go into the portal end up at schools lower than the level they left. Look at the freshman DB's that left from the the last class - FAU to be a DB (was recruited as a linebacker), UCF, one I am not sure on, and the other one that just left doesn't even have new coaches following him on Twitter from any respectable school. In most cases players that are legit will use up their time at the school they registered for with their first classes and then go to the NFL.
  20. That is what Ohio State does. Their WR scholarship layers and their high school states: Missouri (X3), Texas (x2). CA (1), PA (1), WA (1), OH (x2). Recruit good WR's from colder states. They will pan out at a higher rate since they are more used to colder weather and not the glamour (which is mostly fake BS) and beach lifestyle. The 2021 WR commits are from Georgia, Texas and western Florida. No Miami kids. I suspect Frost and staff have already learned the lessons I am covering in this thread for WR recruiting.
  21. 2018 class: 6 DB's recruited. 2 are starters. 4 not on the roster. Would it be nice to have 1 of those 4 pan out? Sure, but I'd argue the creme rose to the top. 2019: 4 DB's recruited. 2 are backups and play. All 4 still on the roster. 2020: 5 DB's recruited and 2 still on the roster. I don't see an issue with DB recruited, IMO. Sure it sucks to have those Florida kids leave, but we are hitting big on Georgia DB's and we are just having to replace the Florida kids with the 2021 class. S/SS depth will be a bit of a sore spot for 1 season but we are deep at CB. When our backups have gone in there hasn't been a big drop off so Fisher is getting guys developed. We are going to hit big with the kids that pan out at DB under Fisher. Gotta do everything possible to keep him around for years and years. Damn good coach.
  22. Yeah, it tends to be pretty close to that. There are only 11 starting spots on each side of the ball for an 85 man roster. To me, I think the slight adjustments in recruiting need to be less emphasis on Florida and more emphasis on getting into Missouri and Texas. When you study the rosters of Wisconsin and Iowa, their base is more Big Ten footprint than it is guys from the coasts. What I am not saying is to not recruit those places, but rather get better at landing the best talent that is closer to home that will have a better return rate. Benhart - MN Piper - NE Jurgens - NE Fidone - IA Reimer - NE Allen - NE Betts - NE Stoll - CO You guys will get the point. If we try to bring in 4 guys from Alabama, 4 guys from Georgia, and 5 guys from Florida, it's going to lead to a lot of busts. I think the smarter move will be to take only 1 or 2 guys from Florida and really make sure they want to be at Lincoln. Scott is from the Orlando area and not Miami and watch him become a very good player while the ones from Miami are all gone by the time the 2021 class signs. 2 a year from Alabama, 1 from Florida, 2 from Georgia.....I think those are the numbers to hit at and then get the best talent we can in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, New Jersey, Missouri, Texas, hawaii, IL, and those types of states and not spend much time in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and those type of states.
  23. There are many reasons why I say this. The biggest reason is local talent. There isn't much around and when there is you want to land it. When you go to the coastal areas you will run the risk of them going back home for one big reason - culture shock. Los Angels and Miami are different cultures. Since Frost has been here there have been 2018 class: 5 were recruited. Zero remain on the roster. I don't get angry or frustrated over this since it was a class put together in a matter of a few weeks. 2019: 5 were recruited, 2 remain on the roster. 1 graduated. 3 are on the roster. 1 contributes, the other 2 are scout players. 2020: 6 were recruited (5 scholarship): Fleming will be out it seems so 4 on scholarship until Martin gets put on scholarship in Jan to move up to 5. So, out of the first two classes, you got 1 out of 10 that were recruited that will have already panned out. 2 still TBD. The 2020 class WR is a major hit and it's a blessing it is. 2021 top WR's: Wandale, Betts, Martin, Brown and Nixon. Hopefully Manning comes around and is ready to play next year. If that happens, it gives you a base of 6 guys to build from into the future. You get those 6 to produce and then what you hope for is 1 out of the 2 WR commits to pan out. Even though Fidone is a TE, I see him getting used right away as a true freshman as a pass catcher since there will be guys ahead of him in the TE room. So I can see a base of 7 WR's in 2021. I wished we could just go out and recruit 5 4-star stud WR's in two repeated classes and have the WR room flipped and fixed, but it's going to be a bit of a stressful process to get it up to the level we need it to be at since there aren't many talented kids in the area every year. Wandale is already a star. Betts will continue to develop into a star. Martin will be a very good WR. Nixon will be TBD. Brown is coming along and getting more and more snaps. The effort to fix the unit has been there, just gotta keep recruiting a big number each class and let the cream rise until we are a solid 8 deep. We don't want to be like WI's or NW's WR rooms where there is only 1 or 2 guys every year that do anything.
