  1. Allen has improved his blocking also. With the better size and athleticism of a Manning, Toure, Brewington and even Betts blocking/catching- I hope they aren't snake bit on throwing it when it's there. The smoke- to any of them or the swing to an able pass catcher in Johnson.
  2. We have MUCH better edge blocking this year. Different year, different skill set available- changes the play mix. I don't think most reasonable fans hate the play- like me, they hated that we continued to call a play that we couldn't execute- even though the counts- spacing said we should call the play.
  3. They tried that a handful of times last year. Never went for much. Have no idea why, spacing- timing issues? yes, Hes definitely well suited to get that pitch in space. Would have allowed us to move Toure to the outside. That would have been quite the lineup. Wandale would be the only one we really missed- given what the others have done since they left. Which is a good thing.
  4. You realize for Instance- means as an example right? At the end of the day there have been lots of instances in the past when we were playing against someone who is perceived to be a bad QB- even second teamers. THen they go out and have a record day. The kid has skills, he's no chump. Not saying he's going to have a great day- saying he has potential- don't count chickens before they are hatched that we shut down the run and the game is ours. That is all I very politely said- no need to get uptight.
  5. Youre arguing to argue- Ball was spotted on the opponents 5- he pitched it from about the 8
  6. No worries- so when you or someone seriously claims something like they think we will win a National Title this year for instance- no need to politely like I did temper with facts their opinion a bit. Got it. Weve had a habit of letting pedestrian QBs go wild on us, its happened- never said it would happen. Just said he might have more skills than some are giving him credit for. No need to get your panties in a bunch. Not everyone is "foam finger" guy. Like you, Im hoping he falls on his face.
  7. I get it- when he was at DMR HS I was very good friends with a guy who coached there then- still am. Would go out there to go skiiing with him many years. Good coaching clinics there. DMR- HS At the base of road that leads to Mt Rose skiing area. They were prolific passing team at that time and extremely well coached. He started as a Freshman- they were really good passing team, kid was really good also. Sometimes our fan base gets out ahead of ourselves too much- weve been burned by what we considered "pedestrian" QBs WAY too many times.
  8. Cade McNamara How may times has NU played against a supposedly pedestrian QB or even second teamer and the guy plays out of his mind? This kid may be better than many are giving him credit for. He hasn't been asked to do much- Michigans running game has been pretty good. He's only been asked to be a game manager and he's done just that. He was a past commit to Notre Dame and threw for 146 TDs in HS at a very good HS program. DMR- HS they have a great passing offense and great coaches- QB coaching etc. Hopefully our defense keeps Michigan behind the chains- they have the talent to do that now I think, but that is no guarantee of success.
  9. A much different twist- as an entrance song
  10. Not sure what all the hub bub is these days on "was the pitch forward"? These guys get it right on this play. But Who cares as long as it's behind the LOS, which most are. Can't remember what game it was- the announcers were back and forth on the replay, looking if the pitch was forward or backward- never saying anything about the LOS. Some of them are just bad.
  11. Having lived in Des Moines and worked the entire state- run across guys like you a time or two. Real shame you dirty the reputation of the rest of your great state. So Jealous about NU and insecure about the "success" Iowa has had. I've found successful people are never jealous or covetous of the success of others. The jealous and covetous types are usually low information hillbilly types- with very little going for themselves. FYI we have an extremely loyal and devoted fan base even when the team is down. Have not heard any boos during the Frost era- against players or the coaching staff. We have the privledge of having been raised on exceptional and well played football and are considered by most unbiased experts as being the best fans in college football. So we have fairly high but reasonably achievable expectations. We have no intentions of going away or from aspiring to be great again. I'm proud of you for not making meth or begging for money at the Intersection of First and Main anymore- So if you could go to the fast food joint you work at and make me and my peers some fries, it would be appreciated. Oh- and your AMC Gremlin- very cool- but how do you still get parts? Just curious, love the color though.
  12. At the end of the day, some kids don't adjust well at college. Away from home for the first time, they are no longer "the guy". Facing competition like they've never had, competing against like or better players for the first time for playing time. Football becoming such an overwhelming part of your life. Most have no idea the time and emotional commitment these guys go through to play college football. Some kids just don't handle that very well. Hence the transfers to the lower level programs closer to home for many- where they often times are surprised at how good and how committed lower level program kids are too.
  13. So 13 Running Option plays against NW for 159 yards- about 12 ypc- which is in the ballpark to what Oregon did- they averaged 9.3 . Obviously Betts long run takes those numbers north- but Oregon had big plays too and averaged about 15 ypc on the pitch. Just a guess, but add in the rest of the seasons option plays into that number and we may be pretty close to Oregons 9.3 season average on triple option. Did not know TO was as involved as he is. One would think he may be giving some ideas to HCSF on the option nuances. TO has said he still likes to watch a lot of College Football, so I'm sure he has kept up. He's an offensive genius and student of the game. He was a big fan of Fisher Deberry when FD was running a very complex option game at Air Force.
  14. https://www.espn.com/college-football/team/stats/_/id/242 Luke- it's not a players around you or line issue. The other QB with the same line and supporting cast is playing much better. Dang it would be nice to have him returning kicks and playing slot.
  15. Will be interesting to see how AMs season hashes out. If he absolutely crushes it- plays like he has the last 5 games- he is a lower draft pick and gets his shot at the NFL as a backup QB- which is awesome gig. If he does average- levels off or has any type of injury, he is a very low pick or most likely FA pick, with little guarantee of making a roster spot. Wandale Robinson just inked a 100K NIL deal at Kentucky. One would think AM could garner at least that if some reasonably powerful people think they want him around for another year. In any event- I doubt he sits out that last year. Where else can he go out and make 100K in salary in the private sector one year out and close out a Masters Degree to boot?
  16. Most of our option game INCLUDING the motion- inside zone read triple. Right out of the Oregon playbook https://fishduck.com/playbook/the-chip-kelly-oregon-spread-offense-analysis/understanding-the-oregon-offense/a-fish-video-tutorial-oregon-straddled-triple-option/
  17. Remember he calls BB with Pavelka the ultimate homer Im oK with both-
  18. They did= late in game. Maybe for a reason? May or maynot see it again. Sometimes guys will run stuff late in the game that they dont even like to make the next team prep for more stuff. Once saw a team run Swinging Gate- 4 different plays out of it in a game they were up 35-6, just to screw with the next team they were playing- never ran it again the whole season. I've always liked that play- not a lot of teams run it. Sometimes it can really mess up the DT- now he's not coming upfield so fast.
  19. This works and its right behind the big screen in the Railyard. Gets pretty crowded as you would imagine. But the big screen area with all the picnic tables usually has room- have a beer as you wait for your table. You may not want to take my advice though- I don't live here or go to any of the games https://gate25lnk.com/ https://www.google.com/maps/uv?pb=!1s0x8796bf1c8638f5c7%3A0x841bc57907fc9013!3m1!7e115!4shttps%3A%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipMwsBymRykDPWuZrWPm-GWHiwMqsOVmjepTWcw_%3Dw180-h120-k-no!5srailyard lincoln ne - Google Search!15sCgIgAQ&imagekey=!1e10!2sAF1QipMwsBymRykDPWuZrWPm-GWHiwMqsOVmjepTWcw_&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjCi7HczrjzAhWJc98KHS1XCNUQoip6BAh0EAM
  20. Someone elses- explanation of the Oregon Version of the Triple Option. Note that with the series they averaged about 9.3 YPC with and about 15 YPC with the pitch. Kinda what our numbers looks like. Oregon ran it with 2 backs in the backfield. We run it with 1 back and a motion back, other than that, pretty close. Our pitch back spacing also seems to be deeper and wider. Frost has some pretty cool innovations with the TE/HB lead blocking on some plays and running it out of a variety of sets, motions- counter motions and counter footwork almost Navyesque in complexity. Tough to get a bunch of tells and now NU even has incorporated an old Tim Beck play where they read the tackle on the front end of the option. Like Beck HCSF is an excellent play designer - expect to see even more nuances out of that series against Michigan and as we get deeper into the season. Would think now that they are letting Yant play, that the old Oregon option may reappear with Johnson as the pitch back. Allen is a pretty good blocker when he leads on some- Brewington is an absolute beast blocking- would like to see him in on these too. Expect to see a speed or load option out of our orbit motion option also- since Johnson is such an able, consistent and aggressive blocker in space. https://blogs.usafootball.com/blog/6237/how-the-oregon-ducks-utilized-the-triple-option-in-their-spread-offense This is one version of how NU is running it.
  21. I'm guessing he is posting like that because some koolaid NU fans get way out in front of themselves often times with very rosy expectations or fantasies, only to be crushed when they don't play out. One game at a time.
  22. San Francisco used to be an absolutely amazing place to go- been many times, cycled across the GG bridge, rode ferry back etc. Place is in chaos now- homeless- needles everywhere and people s#!tting in the streets- feces everywhere down town- fishermans warf etc according to my buddy who lives in Palo Alto. He said they closed all the Walgreens stores downtown because of all the looting/legalized shoplifting. Was planning on attending whatever bowl we got invited to- won't be going to this one if that's where they are playing it.
  23. AM isn't 71st by a long shot Certainly looked better than Rattler Some crazy numbers by most of the guys in the top 10 19 TDs and 1 INT 10 TDs 0 INTs 6 Rushing TDs 11 TDS 0 INTS 6 Rushing TDs 10 TDs 0 INTS 2 Rushing TDs Up and down the list wow
  24. That is a play right out of Tim Becks playbook- glad to see it again. Another thing Michigan will have to prepare for.
