  1. Doubt it. Youre saying a career 163 yard guy is going to surpass a 2500 yard first team All American and Academic All American who has taken charge of the receivers group? If you are in fact Martin, I love your attitude. If you aren't Martin, you're just ignoring the data Martin- He has played in 21 games in his collegiate career and caught 16 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Martin redshirted in his first season at Michigan in 2017, then appeared in 13 games with one start as a redshirt freshman in 2018, catching 11 passes for 125 yards and one touchdown. Martin transferred to Iowa prior to the 2019 season and had five catches for 28 yards and one touchdown in five games for the Hawkeyes as a sophomore. Toure-2019 FCS 1st-Team All-American (SATATS, HERO) » 2019 FCS 2nd-Team All-American (Phil Steele) » 2019 FCS 3rd-Team All-American (AP) » 2019 First Team All-Big Sky » 2019 Academic All-Big Sky » FCS Playoff Record for Receiving Yards in a Game (303, vs. SE Louisiana) » Montana Single-Season Receiving Yardage Record (1,495, 2019) » Montana Single-Season Receptions Record (82, 2019) » Montana Single-Game Receiving Yards Record (303 vs. SE Louisiana) Before Nebraska (Montana/Westview HS) Toure finished his career with the Griz with 155 receptions for 2,488 yards and 20 touchdowns, ranking in the top 12 in Montana history in each of those categories. As a junior in 2019, Toure led the Big Sky and was second in the FCS with a school-record 1,495 receiving yards on 87 receptions. His receiving yardage total was one of the top 30 single-season performances in FCS history. . Overall, Toure posted six 100-yard receiving games in 2019, including a school-record 303 yards on 12 catches against Southeast Louisiana. Toure played in all 11 games as a sophomore in 2018, with 10 starts. He caught 37 passes for 440 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Toure had three games with at least five receptions and totaled a season-high 105 receiving yards at North Dakota. As a redshirt freshman, Toure played in all 12 games and helped Montana to a 7-4 record. He finished the season with 31 receptions for 553 yards and five touchdowns, averaging nearly 18 yards per reception. Toure had three receptions that covered at least 72 yards during the 2017 season and also returned 21 kickoffs for 379 yards.
  2. I totally agree that Martin is the best athlete. That doesnt mean he will be the best receiver. Weve been fooled before by freakish athlete numbers. Thats all nice, but what matters is how well can they ball. Martin only had 163 yards in 3 seasons of football. Thats not anything to write home about. We just lost 2 speed demon WRs who never saw the field- this week and I havent really seen anything from speed freaks- Alante Brown or Rhamir Johnson and probably wont this fall either. Toure looked the best and has taken leadership in the group. Hes had 2500 yards receiving and coming off a dominating season. He will be a 700-1000 yard receiver if we can get our RBs going and have 1 other legit threat along with an adequate 3rd threat. Hopefully Manning will stay well and either Allen 0 most likely or Martin can be that 3rd threat. Then we need 2-3 guys in that 10 catch area.
  3. NW has the bats that is for sure. NU has been resilient, but not so great at home so far. Should be huge crowds. Love what Bolt has done with this team- but Schellenbach seems to have lost a bit as a closer and our efficiency for getting runs per hits is down. Bullpen was dominant early- a little less consistent now. Love how this team fields and battles. Huskers have to get 2, 3 would be really nice. Indiana is the favorite now, this is a huge series before NU plays them and OSU. Indiana will save their 2 ace studs for NU- that will be two tough games to win, that is for sure.
  4. At the beginning of that season I dont think any of us thought Ozigbo would see the field. Bell came with some pretty big numbers, Washington and Jones were highly touted speedsters. But Ziggy went out and lost the weight, gained a step and won the job in the Purdue game. He looked like a different back. It was noticeable right away. I have no clue who is responsible- gets credit for that. And yes Rileys "ground" game was an absolute joke, an embarrassment to the game of football. Just like his track record indicated it would be. So how much of it was scheme, player, coaching- I wasnt there so I dont know.
  5. I think Coach Frost has figured it out a bit that the BIG is a much different animal than he saw at UCF and Oregon. It's a much more physical conference. He has pivoted quickly and gone after bigger players. At the end of the day, like others have pointed out, the scheme wont matter at all if we cant stop beating ourselves. Turnovers, untimely penalties and awful special teams- all the markers for poorly coached teams have to be improved upon in a significant way. I'm a fan of Coach Frost, love his passion and attitude. He inherited a hot mess, but he needs to clean a lot of this up- it's on his shoulders now.
  6. Heres my take: Dear Coach, I supported you as a player and as a coach. Still in your corner, love your aggressive attitude, your passion for the game and your players. You know more about the game than I will ever know, but from a 40 year season ticket holder- outsider looking in I see a team that finally has some depth and reasonable talent. The first thing we have to do is stop beating ourselves. Can we quit being cute with the double passes in the Spring Game- and ALL backward swing passes? Why not just be great at the ordinary? Blocking, tackling and protecting the football? Little League football stuff that the winning College teams do really well. Inside Zone, outside zone, power, wham, zone read and the play action off of those. LOVE the QB draws, but maybe get great at the slides. Instead of 2-3 reads how about some simple slant/arrow or Hitch/corner concepts with the underneath routes that have been open when the Oline has given AM time. Can we start our practices with Special Teams with YOU in charge to show how serious you are about not losing games and being in the cellar of special teams play? Be a great CEO and Special Teams coach, let your coordinators call the rest of the snaps. We cant throw YOLOs with the receivers we have now with the exception of maybe Manning- so lets get used to either throwing it away or having our QBs take off if there is a lot of green out there. Please focus on making us extraordinary at the ordinary rather than being something we dont have the ability to be right now.
  7. Toure- looks the part. Runs nice routes, gets separation, soft hands, nice Size, I like this guy. He should be in the 700-1000 yards area if we have another guy as a legit threat. Manning- the mystery man. Looks the part, good separation and size. Dropped a TD in the Spring game- has health issues. He plays, its huge, cant count on it. Martin- Looks the part. Good hands, descent routes. Adequate. Betts- Doesnt follow the ball into his hands well. Looks the part, I dont see great separation or great routes. Still just potential for now. Falk-Leiwer- Back ups, no game changers or even Westercamp like possession guys Brown- Hickman- Athletes that have lacked enough consistency to get onto the field Allen- Tall, athletic and has developed. Not a game breaker but creates matchup issues- Im a fan Vokalek- huge, great blocker, clod hopper. Not much of a threat at TE Carnie- Amazing athlete, great speed and size. Unfortunatly he doesnt catch well at all. Even his catches in the Hudl highlights were usually bobbles- doesnt follow ball into his hands. Fidone- would have been game changer. Dont expect to see him back. Nixon- Good speed and hands, hes a possible. Expect Toure to be very consistent. Manning and Allen will have to be near potential for this group to make a difference. Then have another 3 guys make in the 10 catch area. A Nixon/Oliver/Liewer/Falk needs to step up and get 10 grabs each. This group will be an improvement over last season, but by how much- we dont know yet.
  8. Ervin was better than I thought. He read the zone blocking landmarks well, was patient and got north- south in a hurry. Wish it would have been full contact that first half to see more. Good field vision for a Freshman. Then he was able to get the edge with better speed than I thought he had. Pleasantly surprised. He stays healthy he may be a good one.
  9. It will be by Committee. Ervin/Stepp When Stepp gets hurt again, Ervin getting more carries. Scott/Yant (Yant looked good running the ball, needs to get in better shape) . Morrison Jewitt Tompkins out- ALWAYS hurt- Will be gone or just sit and graduate. Johnson- too small, cant break arm tackles. Not enough wiggle for his great straight ahead speed to matter. Will transfer. It's been so frustrating, with all the injuries in this group. But If we have a committee of Ervin, Scott, Yant and Morrison and a reasonably improved Oline along with our better receiving corps, this group could end up doing much better than last season.
  10. This is a very wide open race between Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska and Iowa. Maryland is in it- but doesn't have much of a chance. This is going to come down to the final weekend. My take teams with most likely path to the title. Indiana needs 6 wins, they have 2 games against NU and 3 against MI- say they win 3 of those- 1 of 2 against OSU and 2 of 3 against Maryland. Indiana is 13 games above .500 this would put them at 13-15 over .500 A BIT of a tougher schedule than NU. Second toughest schedule of the group. Indiana has the most likely path to the title. Indiana has 3 QUALITY starters with 2 having opponents batting less than .175 against them. Not great with the bats, but timely and efficient hitters. They will have to stub their toe a bit to lose it. Nebraska 12 games above .500. They win 2 or 3 of the 5 games against Indiana and MI. Win 1-2 against OSU and 2 of 3 against NW. That Puts NU at 12-14 games over .500. They have the third hardest schedule of the 4 and a very tough row to hoe. These guys find ways to win. Great fielding team, aggressive on the bases. Adequate pitching, they usually dont walk a bunch of batters. Bullpen was flawless early but seems to be faltering of late. They cant bunt to save their lives and Schwellenbach seems to be wearing down in the stretch. Doable, but unlikely. Michigan is 11 games over .500. Say they win 3 or 4 of the 6 games with Indiana and Nebraska. Then win 2 of 3 against Maryland- puts MI at 12-14 games over .500. Michigan has the toughest schedule of the 4. If they beat Indiana 3 of the 4, they have a chance. Tough schedule- probably doubtful. Iowa is 7 games over .500 and has by far the easiest schedule of the 4. Against Northwestern, MSU and Illinois. Say they go 6-3 or even 7-2 that puts them at 10-12 games over .500. They have very very low chance. Indiana, NU and MI would need to implode for this to happen.
