Fitzgerald is one of the absolute best to ever do it, and I hope his understated/quiet demeanor doesn't work against him in cultural remembering or conversations about best wide receivers ever. Dude was just quietly an absolutely beast for almost as long as Tom Brady.

I don't think his reputation as a player gets lessened whatsoever. And for anybody who'd try to do that, you're an a****le.   :D

Before a few weeks into 2017, his reputation as a player was dramatically underrated. Nobody included him in their top 5, even top 10 quarterbacks in school history which was an understandable but frustrating shame. People re-saw his playing career through a new lens once we saw Riley's sinking ship and Frost's rising stardom.

Discussed it elsewhere, but I'm not sure its targeting and unless you're 100% sure, I'm not happy with ejecting people from the game. Both this play and the later one that was also picked up against Thompson should have still been 15 yard penalties (defenseless player and roughing the passer), but I think the refs were thinking about only targeting and not the fact that you have to include the other parts of the penalties to actually call them.

It's 100% targeting. The rule is 'forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless player", which that absolutely was. He launched, and hit a receiver in the area with force to the head or neck area. It's not ambiguous.

  5. If Frost gets fired, with time the animosity and frustration will cede ground to sympathy as people realize he gave it every ounce he possibly could and was more disappointed in the outcome than any of us.

Plus, I have a suspicion that he'll go on and have a lot of success elsewhere which will hopefully show us all that the problem wasn't Frost, it was Frost at Nebraska that didn't work for whatever spooky reason.

USC and UCLA attendance will probably go up 10x when they join the B1G because of the visiting fans.

UCLA has it really rough in a few areas. Number one, the Rose Bowl is about 30 miles away from campus in LA traffic. Number two, they aren't even in session yet as a school.

Not that they would have incredible attendance otherwise, but a week one home opener definitely makes it worse than it is.

I think that right now with the playoffs being expanded to 12, the whole USC and UCLA thing backfired on the Big 10.  They were hoping to cash in on Notre Dame by getting those two schools.  Now, Notre Dame will stay independent, with almost a guarantee of a playoff spot each season as long as they are a1 or 2 loss team .

Without a conference they're guaranteed to not be able to get a first round bye. Which aint nothin'.

I see your approach. It seems that you’re confident in Jim.

I'm literally not confident in anybody outside of Saban/Urban and to a lesser extent Jimbo/Dabo/Kirby, but I'm especially wary of coaches who took over programs, had a down year, then had an amazing year, then left.

Yes, and I liked when we did that....I am not saying we need to go the option but I think it would be a unique offense for a P5 program that could take notice. FYI I am okay with our offense this year as well.

I loved Beck's offense. It was inventive, creative, based off power running principles and the closest anything could come to being a modern Nebraska offense.

Trouble was never the scheme, it was his ability to call a game. Sometimes he was incredible, other times he just went straight into the ditch and couldn't get out.

Do you think that Leonhard could make the jump to HC? Awesome defensive coordinator!

You never know for sure, but he's an elite coordinator, and has been a huge part of a program modeled on consistency, development, toughness and culture.

Hiring a coordinator is not any more of a risk than hiring 95% of head coaches (see Stoops, Pelini, Riley, Dabo, Kirby, and plenty of other examples of success), and outside of getting somebody from Saban's rehab program he's got the potential to be an elite head guy.

Honestly, I'd probably prefer a long-tenured elite coordinator over a head coach with the classic 2-3 year miraculous turnaround. Those are much more deceiving on a resume than consistency at a high level one step lower is imo.

I get that you are purposely being obtuse, but How can your not understand that Obama actually did say electric prices will necessarily skyrocket??  That he did say gas prices rose faster than he would have liked.  That he would have preferred a more gradual rise……not that he would have preferred they didn’t rise.   Why wouldn’t he have said that???  Would have been the logical thing to say in that interview.

But I understand you have to cover for him and nit pick a word here or a word there to deflect and act like you are on to something.  It’s a necessity for you I guess when your argument falls flat:dunno

You're the one reading into it, not me. You could be right about what he actually meant, I don't have an opinion.

Point is, he didn't say it, you just inferred it. Sorry I don't play fast and loose with my own interpretations of what people mean and then claim that it's actually what they said.

But he hasn't. So which is it? You really can't make up your mind what argument you want to try and make.

Not once did I say he wasn't good at all. I just remember he was quick and shifty, broke arm tackles like he wasn't even touched, and consistently made people miss in the open field and had top end speed not to get caught at least some of the time with video evidence but lacked top end speed bc he would get caught from behind most of the time.

    Fixed it for you :P

Do you understand where the money is coming from to pay this? It’s not a pay for, which means something else needs cut, raise taxes to pay for, or take on debt and then raise taxes to pay for.

Will you provide an instance where increased access to capital has EVER reduced the cost of tuition on an average basis?

Yes I agree that employers will do what they regardless of this handout.

    A gradual adjustment…………..higher…….higher gas prices.

When asked a pointed question and offered as a contrast that leaves so much room for intrepretation.

Again, the claim here under dispute is if "Obama said he wanted higher gas prices", exactly what you said. He didn't say that.

One step further, your initial claim is that it's part of the dem playbook - ie, that the Dems are actively trying to make it happen. Obama's comments are answers to questions about the state of what is already happening, and certainly are not said at all in a context of being something he's working to do.

No, I am being blunt and don't approve with hearing 2AM is a better passing QB in the pocket than CT.  Or that he has better pocket-awareness.  Or quicker decision making.  Or stronger arm.  Or that 2AM makes better plays for the team, holding onto the ball and scrambling around and around, running for his life when he could have thrown it within the designed pass play.

I am not criticizing people. We see things differently.  I am sorry if I hurt your feelings or anyone else's.  If you want to know how much I appreciated and loved 2AM, look at the previous 4 years.  He was my guy.  But, Thompson is the better QB.  Peace!

Nobody has made most of those claims.

You certainly didn't hurt my feelings, and if you aren't criticizing others for comparing the two, then you're just being overly defensive of Casey.

The only claim made before your "oh this is what we're going to do to a guy with a new team and going to ireland" bit was that Casey has struggled with the long ball. Then you launched into a diatribe listing all of Casey's strengths compared to all of Adrian's weaknesses.

Obama said he wanted higher gas prices

That's your interpretation of what he said. That's not what he actually said. But here is:

Harwood, June 10, 2008: As difficult as this is for consumers right now, is, in fact, high gas prices what we need to let the market work, a line incentive so that we do shift to alternative means of energy?

Obama: Well, I think that we have been slow to move in a better direction when it comes to energy usage. And the president, frankly, hasn’t had an energy policy. And as a consequence, we’ve been consuming energy as if it’s infinite. We now know that our demand is badly outstripping supply with China and India growing as rapidly as they are. So…

Harwood: So could these high prices help us?

Obama: I think that I would have preferred a gradual adjustment. The fact that this is such a shock to American pocketbooks is not a good thing. But if we take some steps right now to help people make the adjustment, first of all by putting more money into their pockets, but also by encouraging the market to adapt to these new circumstances more quickly, particularly US automakers, then I think ultimately, we can come out of this stronger and have a more efficient energy policy than we do right now.

So far, it appears to me that Thompson is a better short game passer and 2AM is a better long ball passer.

Mostly agree, although overall Casey's placement of throws in general leaves a lot to be desired so far. Even many of his crossing routes/curls/outs are not put in a great spot - mostly close enough so far but a lot of adjustments on the parts of the receivers.

But his long ball is definitely suspect, and his Texas tape showed that. I remember distinctly thinking so watching the youtube video of all of his Texas passes.

So, after 2 games and 30 new players to integrate within the team, including an Ireland trip, we are comparing someone who makes quick decisions on pass plays, throws it quickly with zip, and to a catchable spot with trust........ with a 4 year starter who scrambled around every other pass play, bc he couldn't make a quick smart decision, and turned many pass play calls into running to the sideline, or slow developing loft passes??

I am beginning to underestimate some of yalls thought process for comparing quarterbacks in the pocket.

admo you do realize you're criticizing people comparing them, but you also just compared the two?

As far as your comparisons, there's some factors at play besides the skills of the two in a vacuum. One of them being Casey is playing in Whipple's offense, which has a much larger focus on quick drop backs/routes/passes, compared to Adrian playing in Frost's that has much more long developing plays.

Every team you listed has been in the conference since it was born, or close to. And yes I know that penn stare is relative new Maybe you didn’t get my point, my bad on the articulation. We are NEW to the conference  we do not have the benefit of growing and evolving with it. We have never been successful for more than one season in it.  Therefore in my opinion, we need the cliff notes version of a coach. Someone who doesn’t have to spend a season or three trying to figure out how to play in the climate and the culture.

    A turn key coach

    lol

so if we had been in the big ten for 50 years, it would imbue the program with some magic 'familiarity' power that a coach would become our coach and immediately figure out how to play in the climate and culture?

Really?  Only talking Nebraska here- we are a doormat of a football program in the B10. We have been since we joined. We have never consistently been competitive in this conference. Conferences have identities and we thought we would join be able to set the “tone” of the conference. These are my opinions because I thought we were superior back in 11 or 12,  and I’d bet you thought so too.  We need someone to finally transition us to the conference we’re in.  No more “making them adjust to us” crap. I’m not even sure if I know what B10 football is, because I’ve never seen anything work in it.

but I was wrong. Sec has its own brand of football, and probably the best brand. But the B10 has one to. It’s a gritty grind of football only teams in cold climates can play.  We have to have someone that understands how the Big plays. Because this fast-fix crap that Frost has been playing is predictable and easily beatable. We can’t even beat effin Minnesota. Minnesota.  And should Iowa win, it will be the 8th straight time.

time to sit at the adult table. No more struggling with Minnesota, Illinois, and for the love of God, Iowa.

Your initial assertion was that we NEED someone with past experience having success in the B1G

Ohio State didn't seem to think past experience having success in the B1G was important when they hired Meyer.

Michigan didn't seem to think past experience having success in the B1G was important when they hired Harbaugh.

Michigan State didn't seem to think past experience having success in the B1G was important when they hired Mel Tucker.

Penn State didn't seem to think past experience having success in the B1G was important when they hired Franklin.

Minnesota didn't seem to think past experience having success in the B1G was important when they hired Fleck, or Kill before him.

Those all seem to be working out pretty good. So again, what actual data are you basing your opinion on that a successful B1G guy is the only person who can succeed.
