The reason I think that head coaching experience is essential with this hire, is because this PROGRAM IS BROKEN!!  I want a guy who has built programs before and can get NU back in the right direction and expectations of winning.  Solich took over a program at its peak.  Bo took over a losing team, but I wouldn't call it a losing program, and there was a good amount of talent when he took over.  Mickey may be able to do that program rebuild, but I think there is more risk putting that task to a guy who doesn't have head coaching experience.

I love Mickey and think he is a great coach. That being said, I feel like all the "Frost needs more time" crowd migrated over to the "Let's hire Mickey" crowd with no concept of why and what a huge transition it would be. We can all point to Dabo but the names of failures are vast and forgotten.

That being said, we could do worse than MJ.

  2. We gain an opportunity to have the next coach jump in and pick up recruiting.

I think we don't lose anything unless Trev is caught with his d!(k in his hands. But Trev has reeled in a giant fish from retirement with UNO hockey out of nowhere. I believe he can do it again. Not necessarily a retired one but he can reel in a thoroughbred.

We just need a coach that can give us at least 5 years to rebuild the foundation and restock the cupboard.

  3. It won't be nearly as hard to get a big name coach as it was 5 years ago. We no longer have the "They fired a 9 win coach" or "their coach went bowling the prior year".

We gave a guy 4 losing seasons and we are willing to pay the big bucks. I'd see opportunity at Nebraska without the pressure at any other struggling blue blood. Trev has a history of reeling in big ones.

But no on Urban. Trev needs 5 years out of a coach to restock the cupboard. Urban is one of a few that has a golden ticket to anywhere anyways.

The onside kick absolutely unforgivable call totally pissing away momentum, complete debacle that you absolutely cannot do with the way that game was going.

The line is easily now drawn. I see how Frost does through October. That’s it, perform or bust. Make it absolutely clear to him. I actually thought Whipple, CT, and the receivers were good. Except the last one we drop for an INT of course. The defense was awful as well as line play on both sides of the ball. No to little hits on the QB, over 500 yards by NW!? We have an absolute knack for making average QB’s look like Heisman contenders.

Again assess at end of October. We have a guy on staff Mickey Joseph who knows what time it is. It’s not 1995 and no current kids care about a program 10 years before they were born. I’d look hard at Mickey as a recruiter and potential leader of the program. If it goes south in the next 2 months, you have Mickey as a safe play if you can’t pull in a major name like Stoops or Petersen.

That’s it.  Take the emotion out of it.   Git R Done has never meant more.

You don't hire someone who has never been a head coach at a major program at this point. We did that with Solich, BC, Pelini, Riley, and now Frost.

The common denominator is glaring. It is time to go after a thoroughbred.

  5. Nebraska can cut off press access. Remember last year when the press went negative on Frost when there was a lot of talk that he was done, then magically started pushing for one more year?

That's because Trev got his answer from the boosters and admin and the U had to 180 its campaign to get the fans ready.

You guys are crazy if you think our press doesn't take marching orders.

Also to the poster above me. Take it easy Francis.

Ya'll are so worried about fan apathy, honestly, moving on from Frost this year is what will bring that about for me.

I can support a Husker trying to right the ship and the struggles to do so.

BUT, We have gotten worse every time we switch coaches since Osborne. Honestly, if we bring in a new guy, I probably won't even bother learning his name, definitely not his assistant's names. Won't matter when they are shown the door in 3 years anyway.

Just not worth investing the time or energy in a doomed regime.

Well, it's happening. There is no excuse for 4 years of this s#!t. Enjoy your free time on game days.

Hmmm. That's not making me feel good about it either. The person in the article felt it was definitive.

That is very very interesting that back then that he couldn't say "No, he will be back next year."

Things were probably being set up just in case.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't he say a while back that Frost wasn't playing for his job this season?

It's possible but I don't remember that and don't believe any AD coming into this situation would commit to something like that.

No AD in their right mind is going to make comments like that regardless of SF's fate.

Thats true. But anyone thinking it means Frost is staying is delusional. We are at a point where each side is only seeing/hearing what they want. What Trev said also doesn't mean that Frost is gone either. He simply punted the decision. It was a smart NON COMMITTAL move.

If I had to venture a guess...Trev is hoping one of 2 things happen, the feelers he has orchestrated to potential replacements get a bite and talks heat up.

    OR

    Frost gets to 6 wins.

Either of these would make Trev's job very very easy.

Until then? Punt to the end of the season, which any AD should, and see what happens.

  10. Trev could have said "Frost will be back in 2022"

It would have been easy. Just one single sentence. He did not.

    Frost needs to win.

The things Trev said, he would also say if Frost got fired, that he was proud of him and enjoyed working alongside him.

He is protecting the program. No coach would ever come here if the AD wasn't supportive and that is what Trev is doing. He is supporting Scott. This is appealing to coaches.

If Scott rattles off some wins, then Trev can announce the day after a win that Scott is staying. If Scott doesn't win? Expect more supportive messaging like this.

  11. We can't beat the teams we out recruit, what do people think is going to happen when those teams start out recruiting us?

The small class size holds no water. Look at our average recruit rating. If we keep Frost and he only wins 1 or 2 more games then this class is toast. Arguably worse off than a transition class with a new coach.

To anyone preaching of the transfer portal, that is a two way street. We have guys that could contribute to talented teams. After a few years of losing records, the grass is going to look awfully greener on the other side.

Frost needs to get to 6 wins to demonstrate there is improvement. Another losing season is just poison in any recruit's living room. Why commit to a coach that won't be around much longer or commit to a coach who hasn't had a winning season in 4 years at a school?

Two of Frank Solich's seasons were below Husker standards at the time.

Three of Frank Solich's seasons would have ranked in the Top 10 of Tom Osborne's career.

    Just to be clear.

Recruiting. Coeds. Alcohol. New AD looking to modernize. Take your pick. But Frank did some good coaching with relatively modest Husker rosters.

He beat the teams of lesser talent. When I look at his losses. Early on, we may have had more raw talent and lost to more experienced teams but we took care of business. The issue was our talent graduated for the most part after 2001. We didn't have the coaching to coach around our lack of talent.

It sure was nice beating the teams we were supposed to beat.

Frost stated yesterday they are going to recruit more immediate impact guys for this class. Me thinks he's for sure back next year.

They have the money lined up to buy him out.

Frost has to win some games to return. He has no one else to blame but himself for being in this situation.

And it begins. How many more will follow?   Yes, de-commitments happen every year.  This is however a 3 star player not 4 or 5 star player who can pick practically any school they want.     Perhaps the writing is on the wall and recruits are beginning to read it - Year 4 - cannot sell the UCF vision anymore.  The on field results are reflective of the quality of coaching.

That is just recruiting. There very well could be a lot of players, who could start on quality teams, who say "goodbye"

That scenario plus the bottoming out of recruiting makes keeping Frost a huge gamble.

At this point, I believe it is a much bigger gamble to keep him than hire a competent coach. The stakes are just too high.

I get what you're saying but this isn't factually correct. Duke with David Cutcliffe, Rutgers and Greg Schiano, Mike Neu ball State. There's more I'm sure but it is what it is

Please don't compare us to those schools. Seeing our performance the last 4 years is embarrassing enough. Don't rub salt in it.

  16. It is funny that people look at those stats gathered but think the team is improving.

Well no s#!t they are improving, look at those dumpster fires of stats.

A coach would accidentally improve by this point.
