  1. I am not going to pretend to know how good either coach is comparison to the coaches that Frost let go. I do know this: The offensive line outside of Jurgens is putrid. The tackles in particular seemed to never hold up. The interior play was ok, but overall the performance was never up to snuff. I think that NU will be back when they are having OL and DEs drafted. Those are the biggest issues I see in the program at this point. If you can't run block or pass protect at an above average rate and cannot rush the passer with four DL/DE then a team is not going to win in this college football climate. NU is terrible at all three of those things. They need better coaches and better players. Lastly, Frost must hire a special teams ace. The first game they lose because of a punt return or missing three/four kicks Frost is going to be ripped apart. Congratst to the new coaches. Lets hope they all bring in great people and players to make NU great again!!!
  2. Yup, Texas and OU will regret abandoning the BIG12 just like the Huskers should regret joining the BIG10. Riley to USC is interesting. He could flourish out there. He could be gone in 30 games. One thing is for sure, the expectations will be high and the talent pool he has to recruit from is incredible...
  3. Recruiting will be tough. When this program gets back to bringing in and developing stud RBs, OLs, and DE/Rush Ends then this team will turn around. Until then the Huskers will fight a losing battle with mediocrity. Right now there are no players on the current roster that are difference makers at those positions listed above. Frost has his work cut out for him...
  4. Im not sure. There seems to be no indication that AM could be surpassed on the depth chart this season. Last year as we all know McCaffrey was given every opportunity to take the job after numerous AM mistakes. This year lots of game deciding mistakes and no such indication.
  5. For better or worse, Adrian Martinez and his inability to complete simple passes is the main thing holding the Huskers offense back. Too many drive killers in his passing game. I think the offense needs a shake up and QB is the place to start. Bless whoever comes in because the OL is a wreck...
  6. Not sure which way to go on Frost... Good: Frost has the team playing better. They have not been boat raced in a while. Good right? The defense seems more capable, not great, but better. 3rd quarter adjustments are better. Blackshirts look like they are developing some NFL players again with OLB/DT/Secondary types. Should help with recruiting I hope. Bad: Recruiting seems meh. The team is not improving in areas they clearly need addressed by coaching, OL/special teams for example. Frost seems married to Martinez in spite of the fact that his lack of execution in the passing game kills this club often. Frost wanted to move on last year with his McCaffery experiments it seemed. Are Smothers and the rest that bad? Strength and conditioning doesn't seem to be improving. Team still gets man-handled often, has a hard time getting men on the ground when tackling etc. OL talent and development seems to have taken a serious step back. When Minny looks more manly than the Huskers along the OL, I reach for the Jagermeister - often... DE/Rush end talent is almost non-existent. Been a long time since the Huskers had a feared DE. Randy Gregory? I would say this... If Nebraska could get a Bob Stoops type. I mean a guy that can bring all the things a coach of his caliber brings then the university should consider it. To make a lateral move to a guy like Fickell or some other I would say prolly not.
  7. Long time lurker, I had to chime in... I think AMartinez is a very good athlete and could be a decent QB is a conference that plays his style of ball. Granting the QB lots of space like the PAC12 or BIG12. I like the kid, let me make that clear. His main issue IMHO is that his anticipation and accuracy are poor. He has always overthrown receivers and missed easy tosses. He misses more "layup" passes than almost any QB I can remember. I mean simple swing, slant, and go routes are literally an opportunity for interceptions or at best drive killing poor passes. At this point, I'm not sure if the Huskers have anyone better but I think the team knows that Martinez minus a massive Oline upgrade in performance has most likely reached his apex, in 2018. The other elephant in the room to me is the offensive philosophy which goes pistol/shotgun on the goal line with no lead blocker, but that prolly is a different topic...
