  1. 64-24 at Michigan. 122-51 was his career record, including Stanford and SD. Edited and corrected. Thx.
  2. Equating Harbaugh with Frost might be the most simpleminded comment ever on this board. Harbaugh is 64-24 at Michigan, has gone to a bowl every year but the Covid year, finished first in the Big 10 East twice, winning the Conference outright once, made a BCS final 4, and has current team ranked no 4 in the ESPN power rankings. Frost was 16-31, never went to a bowl or had a winning season, never even finished higher than 5th in the weak Big Ten West, and left current team ranked 76th in ESPN Power rankings, right behind mighty James Madison. Harbaugh also out-recruited Frost every year and was 2 and 0 against Frost at Nebraska, including a 56-10 spanking.
  3. Same reason Nick Saban isn't; he has no interest in coming here.
  4. If you have the personnel for it, yes. As far as how long, it's hard to set a timetable. I'd say just give him a 5 year contract (without a ridiculous buyout price) and let him rip.
  5. That may be, but Pederson's coaching change was particularly inept. He fired a guy who did rather well, which may have turned off some coaches to start with. He made the fatal misjudgement that top coaches would jump at the opportunity, and apparently hadn't sent out feelers to line up good prospects ahead of time. Then time dragged on and he finally offered the unremarkable Houston Nutt, and got a very public and embarrassing rejection. Weeks went by, recruits were decommiting, and he finally made a late, desperation hire in Calahan. It was a disaster, and the start of the decline.
  6. You got that right. Not offered a scholarship out of high school but walked on at Wisconsin and was All Big Ten (and i think AA). Not drafted, but ended up playing 10 years in the NFL. When you believe like that and succeed against all odds, it shows a rare kind of character. And he knows the game inside and out. Head coach timber for sure.
  7. When Oklahoma hit rock bottom with three straight losing seasons under Blake in the late 90's, they didn't hire a guy who was a HC, or former HC, from another school. They hired a Defensive Coordinator. And that DC, Bob Stoops, turned it around immediately. Alberts needs to find the Coordinator or the non-Power five HC who is ready to successfully take then next step. Happens all the time. Just need the right guy. All this talk about hiring name brand Head coaches who don't want to come here in the first place is misguided.
  8. Ever hear of a guy named Lawrence Phillips? Star RB. Climbed through a window and dragged a girl by her hair from the third story to the parking lot.
  9. It isn't a realistic possibility for Trev in the first place. Meyer doesn't want it. And Trev is in no position to be choosy because no other proven coach does either.
  10. When I hear people talking Urban Meyer, it reminds me of when Frank was fired and people were going crazy about some rumor that Bill Parcels was a possibility. Lit up the message boards.
  11. It looks that way. Can't be as inept as Pederson was when he canned Frank. Pederson did it at the end of the season, but he had failed to line up any strong possibilities ahead of time by sending out feelers through intermediaries. Then when nobody wanted it like he thought they would, week after week went by, recruits decommitted, and he had to make a desperation hire in Bill Calahan. We all know how that worked out.
  12. Finally some sanity. And it's not just 2022, it goes way back. When Solich was fired, everyone thought top tier coaches could be lured at will, and people were even talking about Bill Parcells - kinda like they're talking about Meyer today. But it turned out not even Houston Nutt would take it. People need to forget this big name coach business. Need to get a Power 5 coordinator or the lesser conference school HC. Find the next Alvarez or Ferentz, who were not 'big name' when hired. And Fleck, Meyer, and Saban all coached in the MAC at one time. The next guy like them to become a great Power 5 HC is out there. Trev just needs to find him.
  13. Because of that, I probably had more patience thinking that Frost's habit of losing close games wouldn't last. Back in the late 70's, Bo Schembechler had a long string of losses in close games. People in the press who didn't like him and Michigan State people, who didn't like him either, were blabbing this theme that he couldn't win close games. Then it ended and Bo won close game after close game, including last minute barnburners. Those kind of streaks don't last. But Frost's was particularly bad, and enough was enough.
  14. Yeah, the timing might be bad for this year in the MAC. Probably should have thought of it sooner. Urban Meyer was in his first year at Utah and was one year out of the MAC when they fired Solich. Likely would have been able to land him then. He hadn't become the 'it' coach yet. That happened a year later, and then everyone wanted him.
  15. None of the name brand coaches at major programs being thrown around here are coming. This is post-Solich deja vu. Trev needs to find another lesser known hire who can succeed, like Alvarez or Ferentz, and his best bet is to go to the MAC. Urban Meyer (Bowling Green), PJ Fleck (Western Michigan), and Nick Saban (Toledo), just to name some recent ones, were successful coaches there and moved on to the top of the profession. Go to the MAC (or maybe the Sunbelt.) Get off this star struck business. Find the guy who will become the next star.
  16. Exactly. Again, after Solich was fired, everybody thought it was a plum job and that top coaches would be lining up for it. People were talking on forums like this - just like they are now - and throwing around names of top coaches - even guys like Bill Parcels or Steve Mariucci. And then a guy named Houston Nutt said up yours, he'd rather stay with the Razorback Hogs. Ended up with a last minute desperation hire in Calahan. Forget Urban Meyer. He isn't coming. Trev needs to find the diamond in the rough.
  17. Yes, he isn't young (but he is an up and comer). 58 is pushing it. But Nebraska couldn't get a 'great coach' after Solich, Callahan, or Pelini. Frost was the only 'great coach' hire, but he was different because he had Nebraska roots. If they couldn't get one before there is zero reason to think they can get a name, or 'great' coach now.
  18. Wake up. 'Here' isn't what it used to be. It's not a coveted job, and based on recent performance, Bozo the Clown is good enough to coach 'here.' Obviously some people forget the mistake Petersen and the Husker Nation made when they thought coaches would be lining up to take Solich's place - throwing out names like Bill Parcels and Steve Mariucci. Then a guy named Houston Nutt turned them down. Best bet is to take a chance on a rising sleeper Liepold. And be glad to get him.
  19. That entire staff knows that their time is probably short. New coaches usually clean house and keep very few from the previous staff. Chinander is out, but the rest are on double secret probation, and making some phone calls.
  20. Looking at results of other games, it doesn't look good. Northwestern just lost to Southern Illinois. Which is Southern Illinois' only win, and Nebraska is Northwestern''s only win. Georgia Southern just lost to Alabama-Birmingham (UAB). Expect a big drop in the Saragin or ESPN power rankings.
  21. I remember when Solich was fired, Meyer had just finished his first year at Utah after just two at Bowling Green. He was obviously a rising star, but he didn't become the 'it' coaching prospect until the following year when the Utes went undefeated. Still, his name came up once in a while, but I don't think Pedersen went after him at all. Everyone was thinking more established, name coaches back then. May have really missed out. He's not coming now. Niether is Fickel.
  22. Don't get too optimistic on the coach search. When Solich was fired everyone thought that top coaches would be jumping at the job, and you heard names like Bill Parcels and Steve Mariucci thrown around. Then a guy named Houston Nutt said no thanks. Ended up with a desperation hire in Callahan. Got time to do it right this time, but need to do better than a retread mediocrity like Riley.
