  1. Honestly, I'd be very happy as a fan just to make it to a bowl this year given the circumstances. That does not mean I'd be happy long term with MJ as our coach. Would be a somewhat similar situation to Luke Fickell and Ohio State in 2011. He did a fine job patching that season together as an interim and guess what...he even took them to a bowl. Ohio State was smart enough to know that didn't just automatically qualify him to get the full time gig going forward as there were other, much more qualified options out there and tOSU had a higher bar than "just get us to a bowl and you're our guy" (and yes I know Ohio State wasn't in as bad a shape when Fickell took over as Nebraska when Mickey took over)
  2. Why? Because he's already here? If he was coaching anywhere else and won 4 of the next 7 in a similar situation, he wouldn't even be on anyone's radar. I'm not saying I want him or don't want him. Of course, I'll get behind him if he ends up getting the permanent gig. I just think it's absurd of fans, after one sloppy win against a pretty bad Indiana team to be ready to hand him the reins of a blue blood football program as long as he can scrape together 4 more wins. But, knee-jerk, week-to-week reactions from fans is the way these things go I guess.
  3. Where did I say I wouldn't be satisfied? It's 4 BTW. Again, being satisfied with making a bowl this year and having that be the bar to hire or not hire MJ as the next head coach are not the same thing. It would be looked at as impressive. But, see above.
  4. aTm giving Jimbo that ridiculous contract is one of the most laughable things in all of college football. But, that's pretty much par for the course for aTm
  5. Maybe not over half the coaches, but with our roster and schedule, a large portion of them absolutely would. Or are we not allowed to use the same arguments as to why Frost was under-achieving to point out how ridiculously low that expectation is? I know I'm being extreme for affect, but winning 4 of the next 7 isn't exactly lighting the world on fire. And I also don't think that not winning 4 of the next 7 necessarily makes MJ disqualified as a candidate. I just think it's crazy to say, if he gets us to a bowl, he should be our coach...or if he doesn't, he shouldn't be our coach.
  6. Pretty solid analogies all the way around. I wouldn't put Gundy, Aranda, or Kiffen in the home run category though. If Rhule and Fickell are triples, Gundy, Aranda, and Kiffen are too. To me, home run would have to at least include having been to the CFP. That's not to say that's the only criteria, but it should be one of them.
  7. So, just trying to keep up here...our new bar is a coach that can get a team to a bowl game? So, like 80 coaches will be acceptable?
  8. okay dude, you may also need to google “laughing emojis”
  9. 1) you might want to google “moving the goalpost” 2) you literally just tried to say you weren’t responding to me then when on to admit you were responding to me in the same post 3) “people” didn’t call me out, you did…so I guess you need to google “people” too
  10. Did I say there wasn’t improvement? You sure like moving the goal posts to fit your argument don’t you?
  11. Heck, I mean…he just lost to Kansas. So, heck…Iowa St can keep him.
  12. What’s worse in that scenario…A) we are so dumb, we passed on the obvious top choice, or B) we are so s#!tty, he passed on us?
  13. Maybe. Can’t imagine that was the case when he chose Baylor over Oregon but you never know I guess.
  14. Detroit? Does that even really count? Hell if Detroit wanted him, that may be all the more reason to avoid him
  15. Ignore him. He’s claiming Campbell’s agent officially reached out to NU and told them he has no interest. Only hole in his little story is Matt Campbell doesn’t have an agent. Soooooo, yeah. Maybe his wife officially reached out to NU for him
  16. Are we sure either of those are actually true? Or is that just like, message board chatter and stuff? I remember his name being mentioned for USC about how it’s being mentioned for Nebraska now. And I don’t remember him ever being rumored for a head NFL job. Regardless, I’d hardly call either one “desperately wanting him”
  17. Question is, which one is more likely? Aranda may think he’s set up just fine at Baylor. And they can/will pay to keep him if he continues to succeed. I think Rhule is likely coaching college next year. But would he come to NU? Normally I’d say we’re likely to be the best college job available. However, when he went to Baylor, he turned down Oregon to do it. On the surface, everyone thought that was the dumbest move ever. Baylor was a complete s#!t show and Oregon was in really good shape. Can’t imagine Baylor offered thaaaat much more than Oregon (numbers were never disclosed). Rhule just said he felt Baylor was a better fit for him and his family. It was a head scratcher for sure. So, even if on the surface Nebraska seems like the obvious choice for him, he’s already shown he may not necessarily agree with popular opinion on those things.
  18. Boy you're not kidding. We've already seen it. Lots of people all in on Campbell a few weeks ago. Loses to Baylor, huge shift toward Aranda. As I sarcastically said a few pages back, people have a really hard time not being short-sighted and getting out of their comfort zones with these things. Let's just hope Trev's not one of those people.
  19. I'm thinking free 'til you pee. Could do it by section. Free beer until someone in your section pees. Keeps the sellout streak going plus keeps people in their seats longer and gives fans something else to think about besides the product on the field.
  20. Underrated coordinator? Or next big up-and-coming coordinator to watch out for as a head coach? Pretty big difference.
  21. Hahaha, Saban doesn't strike me as the type to try to help other programs out. He'll either tell you Deion Sanders so Auburn doesn't get him or Bill O'Brien just to get rid of his sorry a$$. Kirby is a Georgia alum and was the heir apparent there for some time. Saban didn't do anything to help orchestrate that.
  22. I thought you wanted Urban? I got no big issue with Aranda, he might be fine. But he's not even the better of the two possible Baylor coaches. Matt Rhule is responsible for a lot of Aranda's success. What Rhule did at Baylor in the situation they were in when he got there was borderline miraculous. Not sure most people around Nebraska realize the gravity of how bad that thing was when Rhule got there. There was a reason he became one of the hottest NFL targets after just 3 years at Baylor. He and Aranda are the same age, but Rhule has FAR more experience, on both sides of the ball, in NCAA and NFL. And he's arguably got more possible B1G ties than Aranda. Outside of Aranda's 3 years as a coordinator at Wisconsin, Aranda hasn't sniffed B1G country. Rhule went to Penn State and spent most of his career coaching in B1G country. When comparing resumes, it's not even close if you have to pick one of those two.
  23. Welp, cross DeBoer off the list... Kalen DeBoer Chip Kelly, come on down!
  24. Couple things/people listed here just made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.
