I was mildly shocked to learn that Mickey was the first Black head coach at NU in any sport.  Now we are in a rush to replace him.  I dont get it.  In a big hurry to spend a wad of cash.  And demote Mickey.  "Keep bringing in the recruits Mickey, and here is your demotion, because you understand, we just need a certain kind of guy. "

When you consider that Mickey is actually teaching the right things, this rush to replace him is stupidity on a whole different level, and NU gets what it deserves.  NU needs Mickey, and the culture he is trying to build, and the recruits he can bring in, and the cash he is not asking for.

How is handing the reins of a blue blood football program for 9 games to a guy who's never even been a coordinator "rushing to replace him"? He's been given a more than fair shot to show what he's got.

Do you have any instances of a new coach being hired mid-season and starting to recruit?

Did Helton start recruiting at Georgia Southern? Wasn't it you who pointed out that he was one of the rare exceptions of coaches who was named before the end of the regular season (11/2)?

He has assistant head coaches but not an associate head coach

What's the difference? I don't know that I've ever seen "associate head coach" I always just assumed people meant "assistant" when they say that or that they're one in the same.

This is where Trev really screwed up. Frost needed to go last season and we would have had a new staff for this entire season.   I feel really bad for the players who have endured another difficult year.

Look at the bright side...this season looks to be stacking up to be much more of a buyer's market for coaching searches. Last year, we would have had to compete with USC, LSU, Notre Dame, Miami, Florida, Oregon, and some others. Although a lot can change as the dominos fall, there is no possible way the waters end up that deep this year.

Starting to feel like there is an agreement in place with someone and Mickey is in place, either as HC or AHC.

It's starting to feel like Mickey is already in place as HC? I have the exact opposite feeling.

Can we pull of Michigan St 2.0 in portal transfers no matter who the next coach is?  This will be key in how fast we can get to 6-7 wins next season.  Our current roster is not good enough at this moment to win more than 4-5 games next season.  WE need O-line and D-line impact players for next season.  Unfortunately, most college teams will need these areas filled as well.  So of all the coaches on the list, who can carry the biggest impact as far as getting portal players?  Rhule?  Leipold?  Campbell?  Monken?  Patterson?  I think we can rule out Patterson.  I think we can rule out Monken.  That leaves the other three, in which, Leipold actually has done well with the portal.  Rhule has not had that much experience and I don't know the level to which Campbell has used the portal.

Why in the world would you say those 5 names are "all the coaches on the list?" Are you just basing that on this one vague FootballScoop report? They didn't even say those are the final names and didn't even mention Campbell. That same site last year put out similar reports for USC around this time that had Luke Fickell, Hugh Jackson, Dan Quinn, Dave Aranda, and Raheem Morris. And we saw how that worked out.

None of these "reporters" has any more insight or inside info than another. They're just throwing out names based on their thoughts and what they're hearing from people with their thoughts. I give these types of reports zero credence at this stage of the game. Someone may leak it early as we get closer, but it will be someone with some credibility who will stand by it as fact, not just another website with a "here's who our insiders are saying to keep an eye on" type report.

How can your top choice be a coach who is 0-10 vs ranked opponents!? Baffles me.

I don't have as much problem with that as when people say they are out on Rhule, but really want Aranda. Pros and cons for both, but the difference to me between the two is negligible.

Pop quiz - who just had the #1 recruiting class with the highest ranking of any class ever in history?

Here's a little pointer for you:

We are NEVER walking away from our apparel contract with Adidas. EVER. Anyone suggesting we should or would has never looked at it. Please stop.

I've never looked at it. What makes you think this?

Seems like a lot of people glossed over the list that was on footballscoop and confirmed by Feldman on Saturday, which was Rhule, Patterson, Bill O'Brien, and Jeff Monken.

One thing all these guys have in common: it's not surprising that any of them are looking for work and their employers won't drive up the price.

    Rhule: Unemployed

Patterson: Currently rehabbing his image as an analyst

Bill O'Brien: Saban school for wayward boys

Monken: Interviewed at Kansas and Illinois this past offseason

If someone were to leak, say Leipold to this job it would raise serious red flags to KU's admin and drive up the price. This is the case with any sitting head coach not named Monken, who's been released to interview for other jobs in the past. It would be bad business for anyone interested in scooping this job to ruin their relationship with their NU source this early on, so it's likely to assume that Trev has a longer list than those four and Mickey.

Weren't those just reporters throwing crap against the wall like all of us are? I don't think they know anything more than anyone else.

Yes, I don't believe that there are any more wins to be had either.....which, forces TA to announce after a loss or two.... or at the end of the season after a losing streak, which will in turn raise a lot of questions and a divided fan base.

Announcing Mickey would do that anyway...timing has nothing to do with it.

I knew the media couldn't let the border state coaches go. Even with Matt Campbell having a losing record he is still a candidate you got to be joking right. Pretty uninspiring list.

    Hey...2-3 outa 10 right ain't bad.

I'd love if Petersen was the guy, I just think its extremely unlikely given his family situation.  Seems pretty well documented he's got very valid/serious reasons to remain in the PNW.

Completely agree just not ruling anyone out at this point.
