  1. I think his performance incentives (speaking of) got him closer to $500K last year, but your point stands.
  2. No doubt. Most contracts have performance incentives. Just because he heard that's what we're going to do does not mean we are going cheap on the terms. The two are not mutually exclusive.
  3. Nebraska Football: Rumored coaching search angle could spell disaster
  4. Mickey is going to laugh at a $4M/yr offer? You mean because he'd think it was too high?
  5. In fairness, if we end up with one of several names that have been suggested, we might as well
  6. Cannot be stated enough ^ I keep seeing Deion is "high risk, high reward." Show me the "high risk." High risk that we may not win with him because he's not proven? We already suck. There's zero risk from a W-L standpoint. High risk because people might not like him? Most of America loves him. You think there will be a single talking head outside of Nebraska who doesn't praise us for having the foresight to give Deion a chance? The opposite. Show me the risk. Then show me the coach who doesn't have a risk. Any guaranteed winners for us out there, and I'm all ears. Worst case scenario, we still suck but our national brand value has been lifted immensely and we have a coffer full of top 5 recruits. Best case scenario, he actually works out...because he's a winner. Deion is very low risk, high reward. (in case anyone wonders, I'm lobbying for DeioN SaNders)
  7. Made the hair on my arms stand up. If you're not running through a brick wall for him after that, there's something wrong with you.
  8. If you think 1 conference title in 18 years is doing GREAT, then we clearly have two very different definitions of GREAT and elite. T Boon Pickens pumped a ton of money into that place. They have facilities, resources etc. and they’re near the biggest recruiting hotbed in the country. No offense, but I don’t think I’m the one not seeing reality here.
  9. I just went to LSU reddit and Tiger droppings and they've barely mentioned him in months, much less saying they want him over BK. They might have been saying that after their first game of the year when they lost to FSU or they may have been saying that last year when Kelly was hired. LSU is 5-2 with 2 conf wins and their only conf loss to Tenn who's looking pretty damn good. Aranda is 3-3 and hasn't beat squat. None of them are saying that now.
  10. Great list, but I'm sorry...O'Brien and Aranda are not considered "big names" anywhere outside of here. They are both firmly in the "medium name" category. And how do you put a "fading fast" next to Campbell but not Aranda? He's 3-3 right now, hasn't really beaten anyone with a pulse, and has losses to some pretty crappy teams. That's text book fading fast from where I'm sitting.
  11. Oh, no doubt...the announcement will be made right after the regular season. The guy might just not be able to start right away.
  12. I don't think Gundy is elite either. The problem with guys like Gundy and Aranda is that they're performing about where they should be at the places they're at, both of which are considered on par or better than current Nebraska. Both are in better recruiting areas. Both have plenty of resources and fan support. Neither is a blue blood, which we still are, but they're as good or better than us in every other category. And all that history means jack to kids these days. So, why do you think either is elite? Or would be able to improve if they came to NU? Elite to me is either someone who's A) doing GREAT at someplace lower than Nebraska or B) has won BIG at a school on par with or better than Nebraska. Petersen I'll give you, but I just don't see Aranda (or Gundy) that way. Maybe we have different definitions of "elite." And just to clarify, I think there are a small handful of coaches who fall into that category.
  13. No, he's saying if you have a chance for an A who's not available to start until January, you don't pass on him for a B or lower just because they can come in November. And he's right.
  14. Again, I ask how you can put both of those in the same sentence? And how can you classify Aranda as elite? Anyone with a conference title is elite to you? I like you and agree with much of what you say, but this one is a real head scratcher to me.
  15. Trev flat out said the availability of the coach isn't going to be a factor. Said it would be nice if we could get them early, but he's not making that big of a decision based on that.
  16. Every single Alabama fan I've ever met or heard from on the internet thinks he's the weakest part of Saban's staff and can't wait to get rid of him. Most say it with a lot of conviction. Meh.
  17. Agree with all of that. I just don't think that means we have to hire Urban. The two are not mutually exclusive. And I don't think Trev will after hearing him list "someone of great character" first on his wishlist.
  18. Then it’s gonna be a loooooong 3-5 more years.
  19. Dude, swearing/saying something that hurts someone’s feelings is not the same thing as covering up domestic violence, etc. Look, I’m not saying what he’s done should take him off our list entirely like an Art Briles. He’s just not my first choice anymore. I think there are better options. And more than anything, he doesn’t fit what Trev described he wants.
  20. Well, there's nice guys and then there's just flat out sleaze bags. I've reluctantly been on the hire Urban train (reluctantly because I don't like his character issues) this whole time, but after going back and listening to Trev, I just don't see it happening. This interview is pretty cringe. I know he thought he was doing it for damage control, but it had the opposite effect on me... Some things are more important than football. Not many, but some.
  21. Okay then, if you ever find yourself thinking like an Aggie, it's probably best to change the way you're thinking
  22. Your first problem is taking football advice from an Aggie. In fact, if they think we should do something, we should probably do the exact opposite. I've known a lot of them and I think I've ever known like 1 good one. They're the worst.
  23. I know we've all kind of veered all over the place as to what is important to us and what we assume is going to be important to Trev. But it got me thinking back to what Trev actually said when he talked about what he's looking for in our next head coach. I'm sure he's mentioned some other stuff since then and a lot of this is coach speak, but I do think it's somewhat telling where he started when he answered that question and the order in which he listed them... As bad as I hate to say it, given that "people of character" was the first thing he listed, I don't think Urban is an option. The rest of the things are probably vague enough that they could fit just about any candidate. Noteworthy also that he didn't list anything like "able to recruit" or "win/loss record" or "years of experience" etc. although I think a lot of that goes without saying. Also, he specifically said timeline won't be a factor as he's not going to base this big of a decision on when someone is available.
  24. I wasn't saying hiring CP is a stretch. I was saying Neuheisel saying he knows we've reached out to one coach (duh) and assuming it's CP is a stretch.
