  1. Several current Husker wrestlers and recruits are competing for a chance to wrestle in the World Freestyle Championships. This spring began the process. The winners this spring at the US Open will sit out the Challenge round and wrestle the winner of the Challenge round. Current Husker A. Taylor won the Under 20 70kg Challenge round but lost his first 2 matches in the best 2 out of 3 in the Championship round. The wrestler he lost to is ranked as the #2 high school wrestler in the 2023 class and was a former Cadet World Champion. Incoming recruit C. McDanel sat out the Under 20 97kg Challenge round since he won the U.S. Open. In the best 2 out of 3 he won the first two matches and will represent the United States at the World Championships. He will probably wrestle 197 lbs. at Nebraska and he and Silas Allred should have some good battles in the training room. Current Husker H. Andrews finished 4th in the Under 20 125 kg. class. Incoming frosh E. Stiles finished 5th in the Under 20 70kg class. A couple Huskers have reached the quarter finals in the Under 23 division. B. Hardy and K. Burwick

  3. 4 Huskers now in the Portal - Morton, Stoltenberg, Graham, & Wemstrom
  4. With Ridge Lovett coming back he would not start. A decent 125 lber Troy Spratley from U of Minnesota is in the portal. I wonder how satisfied the staff is with Jacob Van Dee at 125 lbs. Incoming frosh Alan Kohler should redshirt.
  5. HWY Seth Nevills from Penn State just entered the portal
  6. "149- Ridge Lovett. It hurt not watching him wrestle for N this year but it could really make the Huskers a contender for the next 2 years. I would imagine he is ranked #1 going into next season. " My guess is if Sammy Sasso takes a Covid year he will be pre season #1
  7. Maybe it is a reward for only losing by a decision to Schultz from Arizona State.
  8. Incoming recruit Tanner Frothinger had a tough day this afternoon. He was going for his 4th state title but lost in SV in the finals.
  9. I wonder if Burks would come home for his last 2 years. "Iowa Western's Jakason Burks was tagged with the ICCAC Wrestler of the Year honors after a vote at the North Central District Championship last Sunday. Burks won the 125 pound weight class for the second year in a row. The current No. 1 ranked wrestler in the division -- Burks will head into the National Championships next month as the favorite. A year ago, he was the national runner up. After spending his first season at Oklahoma State, the sophomore has had two great seasons at Iowa Western. This year alone, he is undefeated and has numerous wins over NCAA Division I wrestlers, including wins over wrestlers from Nebraska and Oklahoma"
  10. I do not see any immediate help next year at 125 or 133. After a red shirt year Koehler may be the answer at 125 and Lauridsen at 133. Maybe they can fill the gaps with a portal Senior or Grad.
  11. In 2 years I think incoming frosh Alan Koehler might be a one to watch at 125 lbs. I expect Lauridsen to redshirt and battle for the 133 lb. weight the following year. Ethan Stiles is a two-time Illinois state champion and is currently ranked No. 6 at 160 pounds by Flowrestling. He was first at Ironman this season. Of all the incoming frosh I think he might have the best chance to skip a redshirt year.
  12. The result is about what I expected. I thought they may win 3 bouts.
  13. Blake is a redshirt frosh who came in as a 125 lber. He is up to 141 lbs. but wrestled at 149 lbs. in the dual the other night. He won and looked composed. It was good to see him get a start and win his first dual.
  14. Good job by the the 2023 recruits at today's Ironman tournament which features some of the best high school wrestlers in the country. Stiles - 157# won his weight class McDanel - 190# came in second. He lost to the number 1 seed by a 3-2 decision Dalton - 150# came in 4th. In the semis he lost a 2 point decision to the number 1 seed and eventual champ Lauridsen - 120# He started off well with 4 wins but got teched in the semis and then got pinned twice in the consolation. One of those pins was to a wrestler he beat in the opening rounds. Maybe he was not feeling well today.
