Word is Chucky is probably going to Michigan State or Louisville.  Louisville offered a high-six-figure NIL deal.

Fidler likely going elsewhere as well.  Not sure where, just not Nebraska.

Sounds like Kyle is a Nebraska/Wake Forest contest.

Essegian said to be an Indiana lean but getting a visit is good.

Hausen may be next in line if Essegian goes elsewhere.

Thanks for this- yeah, deductively, gotta think Fidler to Michigan State with Chucky leaving Wisconsin. And totally would prefer Hausen over Essegian! (The Kyle recruiting definitely has that feel, too... don't pull a Hunter Sallis, William!)

  2. He played 28 mins. a game when he was healthy as a frosh (also, pre-A. J. Storr), but yeah- probably a moot point- Essegian has visited everywhere/probably won't end up N. Brings up something though that was great about this past year's team- coaching staff did a nice job neutralizing guys' weaknesses on D. Esp. at the guard position- until A&M, of course- too many good ones there. Need to be able to work with guys like that because... most players are better on one side or the other, right? (And hey my Chicago Bulls made it to the second game of the play-in despite not defending anybody!)

Rumor is Essegian is on campus today.

Had some injury issues I know but terribly under-utilized at Wisco this year- would be a great fit. Portal is completely insane- over the last hour 2 guys from smaller conferences joined SEC teams to fall into obscurity... I like Fred's approach. I don't think he's bringing in guys just to add bodies to the bench. They fit the system/they play.

New target of interest for NU - 6'4" Brendan Hausen SG from Villanova.  Career 40% 3 point shooter.  Played 18 mins/game last year.  Has taken 246 shots over 2 years, with 223 being 3 pointers.

Verbal commits did a blurb on this this morning. Would be awesome!!!

Nebraska basketball interested in Villanova guard Brendan Hausen

According to Robin Washut of Husker Online, there is mutual interest between the Huskers and former Villanova guard Brendan Hausen. The 6-foot-4 guard was ranked as the No. 70 overall prospect coming out of high school but has been limited to coming off the bench for the Wildcats.

Last season, he averaged 6.2 points per game in just over 17 minutes. He shot 38 percent from 3-point range and has made 88-of-222 3 attempts from deep the past two seasons (39.5 percent).

Like Gavin Griffiths, his best basketball seems to be ahead of him. On3.com also called him “one of the best shooters in the portal” so it would be a perfect fit for Nebraska baskeball. Washut reported a visit is possible and this would be another stellar addition if Fred Hoiberg can pull it off.

So, if I read this right @DGNU - Nebraska could use another big but it's not as pressing as guards. Is that correct?

I think they need both! But yeah extremely pressing if they lose Mast, an interior guy... 2, at least. Never surprised if a team leaves that 13th spot open but I am hoping for/expect at least 3 more signings, 4 if Mast goes. (2/3 minimum...?)

I am a complete idiot when it comes to basketball so this is probably a very noob question but we were a very good defensive team last year, yes? Reink is returning or can if he chooses which leads to my question. Is the staff recruiting mostly shooters because they're comfortable with the bigs or is there a lack of transfer talent in the big man group? If Reink doesn't return, do we have a replacement for him?

Morgan is leading candidate at center, if Mast doesn't return. And N finished up great on D- in the Big 10. Would like to add more athleticism at guard- Ulis will help here, but- couldn't defend those A&M guards so would be good. I agree with whoever posted earlier Griffiths probably not a great answer here, unsure on Worster- didn't see him a ton at Utah/USU.

    A few updates:

Reports are we aren't getting a visit from Pharrel Payne (Minnesota) as expected later this week.

We have moved on from Joshua Ola-Joseph (Minnesota).

Another new name to follow as of today is Connor Essegian, a junior SG from Wisconsin.  Started 19 games as a freshman, then as a sophomore was moved to a bench role and only averaged 8 mins/game.  Career 35% shooter from 3.   https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/connor-essegian-1.html

The hope here is... Kyle coming? Feels like the interior is the main need now, though yeah getting another shooter would be nice too.

  8. Well, if they miss out Frankie, there's a lot of shooters in the portal- already connected to Hickman & Griffiths, hopefully can get in on Hausen from Villanova and Bizjack from Butler (two Texas guys), but yeah would like to hear of them in on more of these guys...

Was he HS teammates with FF? They could be reuniting in Lincoln maybe

Yes he was. And Chucky H., too, but sounding like its N or Creighton for Frankie. ('20-21 Bellevue West team featured Hepburn, Fidler, Kyle, Josiah Dotzler, Jaden Jackson & Dae'Von Hall!)

  10. Fred's done a great job sticking with the hot hand this year, but running plays for Keisei late, when it's Lawrence who was their best guard tonight, doesn't make much sense. Williams' foul trouble really hurt them too... I don't think most of the calls against him were bad, either. He needs to stay on the court for this team to do anything in  March.

  11. Uneven scheduling and a poorly-performing out of conference Big Ten are hurting N here. Going to spend a lot of time rooting against everybody else on the bubble these next few weeks- good news on Texas A&M last night, bad on Pitt... it's unfortunate, but with even more teams next year, who you draw in conference and the metrics are going to determine the 68. (Take it outta their hands though and go 6-0, Huskers!!!!!!)

  12. It's interesting that Williams from Rutgers is able to play now, while Ulis still sits. Don't know, for continuity purposes, if it's not better for Nebraska at this point anyway (if Rutgers wasn't having an awful season, prob. would've let Williams sit... though he could have eligibility issues). Need a good showing these next 2 games. (I'll be in the stands reppin' red at NW.)
