  1. Meyer inherited a team with a lot of talent already running an offense similar to what he had. Completely different situation from what BC came into. What exactly has Weis done? he's won more games, but he's also played a lot more patsies... in terms of coaching i don't see what he is doing to be all that different from what BC has done. The difference is that his team is named Notre Dame, which has given them some sort of college football trustfund when it comes to recognition and BCS bowls.
  2. we've progressed a lot, but still a ways to go. I'm not sure BC can take us the rest of the way, but i havn't seen anything to convince he can't. Given the job he's done so far, i'm fine sticking with him for the foreseable future.
  3. i know i'm late on this, but i thought KSU was already full months ago?
  4. i don't think anyone on our o line has been consistent enough to be named all big 12. For this reason i'm suprised any of our line backers did. I'm very suprised by Ruud being named, but very happy for him too.
  5. was watching a bball game, and the announcer had some interesting points about coaching in college. Being a former coach himself (sorry, can't remember the game or the announcer) he was commenting on the lack of fundamentals in college bball - passing, dribling and shooting. He was talking about how the coaches are squezzed for time. Unlike in the pros, a coach can't say "we are do this over and over till we get it right, even if it takes all day". A large part of their role becomes time managment and motivator, and if push comes to shove, fundamental drills are usually the thing that is going to be left out. While these comments were directed at bball, i can see how it would extend to all sports to some degree.
  6. I think his philosophy is they (OU) only have one loss considering the officiating debacle against Oregon at the start of the season. Two sides of the fence on this subject: OU deserved to win and practically did do so, only to have it undone by the refs. Other side is that bad calls are part of the game and a win is a win, a loss is a loss. I'm not sure which side Herbstriet has been on, but now that you mention it i seem to remember him taking the first stance. Personally i take the second stance (the fact that OU had a field goal and missed it is too much for me to get past). Wasn't really explaining Herbie's point of view, but giving mine in defense of ranking OU ahead of UT.
  7. interesting points. I can see what you are saying; however, A&M has some close games, a bad looking loss to Texas Tech and (most importantly) we beat them in their house in both teams most recent games. While i think we should be ranked, I can see leaving us out. Just not not to A&M In Herbstriet's defense, i understand putting OU ahead of UT presently. Gave up a lot of points to Baylor, played poorly against NU, needed to shut Tech down in the second half and still barely, and finally dug themselves too deep a hole against KSU. You could argue they've not been playing that well for a while.
  8. just wondering if any Arkansans are making the trip.
  9. Got this off ESPN. An AP voter out of New Orleans was kicked out of the poll after his most recent ballot was turned in under the impression OU lost to TTU. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2663882
  10. certainly looks intimidating. But teams change. Wake doesn't have a lot of seniors, but they may loose some others who decide to go early. Also, USC looses Jarrett i believe and he is really the one that killed us this year. On the road to UT is more or less the same as if it were here - a likely a loss. We also will get OSU, A&M and KSU at home. i say lets get through spring and summer and see where everything stacks up before we start worrying too much.
  11. seeing that you used stats, here is a "statsy" sort of point of view. For starters, like most sports, football is about more than just offense. Defense plays a big role in things. Statistics are generally hard to go off of alone, but particularly so in college. The amount of teams and coaches adds to the wealth of strategy and often creates some quirky situations. As with Boise St this year, it's not uncommon to find a team ranked statistically very high, but in reality it is just a team from a mid major conference that outclasses it's competition and doesn't really belong with the other teams ranked around it. Another example could be Texas Tech, whose offensive philosophy leads to huge offensive numbers against weak opponents but rather poor performances against moderately capable teams. On average Tech looks strong, but the stats are really a tale of two extremes. But, just for sh#ts and giggles, lets use those stats. Based on those numbers, we average a 3.7 in our conference. with 6 major BCS conferences and assuming they are more or less equal, that ball parks us somewhere around 22. So we are a borderline top 25 team (at least offensively speaking). Some weeks we will be in, some weeks we will be out. You can look at it in terms of how the pollsters do. To them, NU hasn't been great in recent years and this year we havn't beaten anybody of much importance. Again, to them we are probably a borderline top 25 team based on our record, and with a recent loss to an unranked OSU team still fresh in their minds we are being left out for the time being.
  12. Gotta go with Stoops here. He's lost his two most important offensive players at two critical positions and the Sooners keep on rolling. If he can get through the season with two losses, that many consider to be one, it will be an amazing job.
  13. As i understand it, the number references what order the bowls get to pick in. Thus, the Cotton being #2 means they have the second pick of big12 teams after the conference winner (Fiesta), Holiday has the third, etc. A lot goes into the selection, such as win-losses, rankings, how well the fans travel, potential matchups and so on. However, supposedly an official for the Cotton said they would really like to have a North team this year, although i don't have any link to verify this. True or not, if we win out and lose the ccg then i bet we will be in the Cotton. Having now beaten MU and with the way our fans travel, their is no way i can see us being picked after Mizzou.
  14. guessing the staff saw something they didn't like. It's strange he went to a place like UTEP... why not at least a Pac10 school.
  15. Does Pryor play on the same team as G. Robinson? Noticed they were both from Chandler, AZ (same place i lived last year).
  16. If his mind is at all on bball, hard to imagine him going anywhere but Arizona (assuming he has the option).
  17. i got this from ESPN. It is mostly the same as LA's, but it shows varying coverage for those of us in the MidSouth. http://static.espn.go.com/gameplan/images/...a_iowastate.jpg nevermind... this map is for ESPN Game Plan not ABC... sorry for the scare.
  18. I'm living in Little Rock. Havn't found any other fan get togethers, been going to Fox and Hound in NLR where i saw four other fans for the USC game. Unfortunately that place only has ESPN Game Plan, so not that many Husker games are on TV there. I'm going to check out a place called East End (smoke house and tavern) that has a satellite setup and supposedly gets all the game that can be seen.
  19. Anyone know of a bar or other such place in Little Rock to watch the Huskers?
  20. any such payment system would need a lot of investigation and debate to determine appropriate values that is fair to all. before all this can be determined, it needs to be decided if paying players is appropriate, which imo (for the reasons i mentioned above) it is. To say that it is ok for some kids to get taken advantage of so that others can play collegiate sports is a very poor arguemnt imo. Secondly, I'm not convinced that smaller sports would cease to exist without large contributions from higher revenue sports, just cease to exist at the level they presently enjoy. Thirdly, how much money do BCS teams and their conferences get? i can't find the exact values, but i seem to remeber values in the 10s of millions. TV contract revenues, liscensing, etc. i have a hard time with the excuse there isn't enough money around. i believe once you place a priority on paying players, it won't be all that hard to find the money.
  21. while i do believe that paying players undermines the idea of a student athlete, the reality is that this idea has already been undermined. Matt Leinart took ballroom dancing for gosh sakes, anyone non athelete in his situation would've taken that in the summer and gotten their degree over and done with and moved on to the next phase of their life. Honestly, how often do we congradulate our players on doing a good job in the classroom? 'Bout the only time i hear of it is when a kid with borderline grades get just high enough on some test to qualify. How often do you hear a coach being judged on his graduation rate more so than his winning percentage? These kids daily scehdule, especially during their season, also expresses that athlete comes far before student at most universities (this negates the sholarship as payment imo). The reality is that we as fans place a higher importance off what these kids do on the field, and the universities are aware of it and profiting off of it at these kids expenses. Also, by continually tweaking the rules for student athletes, it undermines the non athlete student. The major universities profit grossly off their athletes, many of which are gonna be tossed aside after playing. The least that could happen is to put some of that money into their pocket. My belief is that the pay should be minimal and even for every athlete at every school, otherwise their would become a large disparity in college sports. but, none the less, they deserve to be paid.
  22. Some people do some really stupid things, They don't like the writers or coaches or whoever decision to award 94 championship to NU and how do they react... by bashing the character of a good coach and good human being, insulting players who worked hard (just like their players did) and insulting fans who support their team (just like they do). YOU MISSED YOUR OWN POINT. Hopefully anyone reading this site will see these people for who they are. hate the system that prevents two really good teams from deciding things on the field and puts the decision into the hands of writers, coaches or whoever. P.S. - By the way, that ESPN poll put the 2005 trojans as the best all time. Maybe, just maybe, human and computer polls shouldn't be taken all that seriously.
  23. i've wondered about something for a long time now. maybe someone who was actually at the game could help. In every replay i've seen, about the time players come onto the field, the scoreboard clock in the corner of my tv screen clicks from "0:00" to "Final". The play was still going on, but the tv's scoreboard said it was over. I'm curious to know if the scoreboard on the field also did the same thing - this might help to explain how there was so much confusion.
  24. i wouldn't look at that number in the crowd all too seriously. having grown up in so cal, there are a lot better things to do there this time of year than watch a scrimmage. i'm kinda suprised they got that big a turnout
