This i would mostly agree with. Each of NU, MU and KU have issues to deal with. The winner of the North (and sacrafice to the South champion) will be the one that manages their losses the best. I don't see any of the being particularly strong next season.

What struck me about his analysis was how NU, despite having a good season, had some trouble getting there with close wins over teams like CU and Clemson. I wouldn't disagree. However, MU had close games too like with Baylor and Northwestern. Dave also points to players like Weatherspoon and Washington. Again, i would agree with him that those are solid players. However, are they really night and day better than guys like Helu, McNeil and Suh? I don't think so. To me, it seems like he takes two similar situation and only focuses on the problems at one program (NU) while only looking at the postives at another (MU). From reading his assessment, you never would've guessed both these teams finished 5-3 in conference. I wouldn't say he is wrong about his predicitions, but his reasoning seems flawed to me. If anything, having to replace a guys like Ganz, Swift and Nunn vs. Daneil, Maclin and Coffman actually makes me more optimistic about NU. Not being as good means, by definition, that are easier to replace. It's not so far fetched that Lee, Paul, Holt and others can fill in adequately, and in which case we know the offense will put up some points. Maybe even be a little better. In MU's case, i'm skeptical that they've got three guys on the bench that can fill replace the same level they just on offense. And if not, what does that do to guys like Weatherspoon, or a defense that was very porous at times?

Joe Dailey's 4th down moment has got to be on the list.

If he really wants to start, I think he’ll have to look at a 1-AA (or whatever it’s called now). I just don’t see a kid who’s been out of the game for four years coming into any 1-A program and starting. It doesn’t make much sense from a program’s standpoint, because he’ll only be around one year. However if he’s open to possibly coming off then bench then he’ll get a year of experience in a pro style offense by coming here. And if he can make a serviceable back up, we’ll get the luxury of red shirting someone this season we otherwise wouldn’t be able to (Green? Washington?, Martinez?). I see Marve and Paulus as completely separate issues – Marve can’t play this year no matter what and Paulus can only play this year. What one decides to do shouldn’t have much effect on the other. If we have the schollies, I say take both. Effectively, Paulus fills Spano’s shoes for this year and Marve takes the place of Witt for the two after that.

In that sense, we never “know” anything for sure. I’m not saying he can’t develop into a good QB, like Ganz and Taylor did. But I don’t see him being the special kind of player like Tebow, Bradford or McCoy. If it were to happen, it would I think it would be a surprise to everyone at this point.

He may still be interested in us. Lee will be a senior next year which leaves Green and Spano after that. Spano is nothing special. Green maybe, but we don't that for sure yet. Most schools, especially the top programs, are going to have something on their depth charts. I have a hard time believing he'd find a much better situation playing time wise that what we offer, unless he's looking at an ISU, Northwestern, etc. The danger for him would be to come here and find out that Green is really something special. That would put him on the pine for a long time.

Unfortunately, Pederson is part of a program (Pittsburgh)now that is, overall --- when factoring in all sports, especially the big ones (football, and mens and womans basketball) --- well ahead of NU. How he landed back at a successful program is well... surprising. It was a sign to me that Pitt was more than happy with the job he previously did there. We (as a fan base overall) like to blame him for everything that went wrong and assume his was completely incompetent, but apparently others disagree.

In Petrino's case i think it's more like: “I ran away from the NFL, screaming like a little girl.”

2. 85 scholarship limit. Can't have more than 85 kids on scholarship at a university which creates parity. This reasoning makes no sense to. How can it be impossible to win anywhere, including NE, when parity supposedly makes it possible to everywhere? If players can be recruited to Norman, OK or Columbia, MS, then i fail to see why it is so impossible to recruit them to Lincoln, NE. We aren't doomed, we are just waiting to find the right coach that can do it for us. Hopefully Bo is that coach.

I'm probably in the minority, but i'm not sure what to make of these comments by their coach. If he had a problem with the way one of his players was acting, why did he not address it? It's coming off like he is bad mouthing the kid after the fact, when the season didn't go well. Makes it seem like sour grapes. Doesn't mean these things aren't true, but i wonder if they are blown out of proportion. After all, if Bryce's actions were so destructive why did he allow them to go on?

Honestly? It's the nicest way of saying we do want you anymore. It's really just a way of limiting bad press on the school and not making the kid look horrible either. What if Bodtman took the grey shirt offer though? Wouldn't the staff then face a choice of screwing the kid over twice or taking someone they don't want?

Two I believe. Under Devaney we ran more of a pro style offense that featured quite a bit of passing. The ’70 and ’71 NC teams featured a balanced offense. Later that decade we even had a QB in Vince Ferragamo that would go on to lead the Rams to a Super Bowl – definitely not your stereotypical option QB, eh. It was later, not ‘till the 80’s I think, that Osborne, finding it difficult to attract players for that system, adopted the option offense. Even then the offense that we ran under Gill was very different from the one we ran under Frazier. Imo, this is a big fallacy of NU football. It’s not about winning with a strong running, it’s about finding ways to win with what you've got. If it means running the football, so be it; if it means passing, that is fine too.

The line of reasoning doesn’t make sense to me. The staff is still offering a scholarship in this case, it’s just a matter of when it will take effect. If you’re going to offer the kid a scholly anyway, why not just honor the first one you’ve given? A grey shirt makes me think the staff still wants him to some degree, but is having trouble fitting kids into the class. However, there hasn’t been any recent commits (unless Eric Martin did indeed commit) and we haven’t heard about any likely academic casualties suddenly making the grade (like Bryd). Thus i am confused. All the pieces we have don't quite seem to be adding up.

I think the comment was in reference to this statement: I don't know about KSU, but the word is he is down to Ore and Miami KSU is not a very good team right now.

His legs don't seem to be moving very fast, yet he is pulling away from everyone in sight. You don't think he's moving that fast, but he's faster than everyone else on the field. Almost as if he's gliding down the field.

For those in touch with the recruiting of this kid, do you think he would look elsewhere if Fulmer were to get the axe?

i agree. If he's narrowed the list before coming to see us, there is a chance we could jump into the mix with a good showing. Not the best position in the world, but there's gotta be some chance.

Maybe. I'm just assuming that since he's from Utah and BYU tops his list that religion is a factor.

whys that? he lives in salt lake city, and has byu as a favorite... If Ron Brown is as straight with recruits about his faith as he is elsewhere, it might be less than helpful. The Mormon faith is not exactly viewed positively by orthodox Christianity, at least generally speaking. That wasn't the case in my church - maybe it these things differ from place to place. Having a guy with strong christian faith would seem to be more plus than minus vs. having nobody. Imo anyways.
