  1. Thanks to GMTood I'm feeling generous too. Next person that posts is going to get a bunch of Merry +1mas from me...... you lucky ducky you!
  2. I think Harbough would be a great hire and turn Michigan around. If these guys can get their teams going strong again moving forward (with exception of Urban Meyer, since they've been really good with him already), we could have a tough conference that could give the SEC a little run for their money. Riley - Nebraska Urban - tOSU Harbough - Michigan Chryst - Wisconsin Franklin - Penn State Kill - Minnesota
  3. Best wishes and best of luck to them both.
  4. I don't agree at all. Cross is just fine...he's not setting land speed records but he's got just as much speed as Rex did. Possibly, but he doesn't have near as much ability to not fall down the first time someone touches him. Lame response that holds no water. It holds water if you've watched the past 4 seasons of Nebraska football. Burkhead made something out of nothing on almost every carry. If you think Cross is as good at staying on his feet and getting extra yards as Burkhead then you have not been watching Nebraska's football games. It is as simple as that. Not only do I fully agree with this, but I will add that Rex had incredible balance & lower body control. That's also where his power came from. And it was tough to hit him straight on. Ameer had that too. That's what made them successful after getting hit 2 yards behind the LOS. By bouncing off the initial contact in the backfield, gathering their balance, redirecting momentum, pushing, twisting and turning it into a 3 yard gain...or 5. Cross does not have that. He has upright power and slightly leans forward. That's why he sometimes gets stood up when the same amount of force hits him. Emmit Smith always credited his success to great balance & lower body control with powerful legs. He didn't have speed, quickness or explosiveness.
  5. That's a good list. I might add Penn State since they used to be a tough top 15 team. Maybe Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Colorado and Washington. I don't think these teams will be perennial super powers, but they used to be programs that were difficult to play and usually fluxed between #10 and #17. I like Tennessee when I think of SEC teams. So I hope they do bounce back into the big picture. I don't know which team you listed will return to a level of near dominance for the next decade, but it is possible that any of those could become a yearly 2 loss max type of program. I'm biased so naturally I hope it's our Huskers. And from a distance, pulling for the Vols to beat up some of the SEC power houses.
  6. The thing that stands out to me is that a HS player from Nebraska has dreamed his whole life of putting on that helmet and competing as a Husker. I have no doubt that these guys will bust their tails off every day all year for a chance to be among the 2 depth. I hope we can bring in more Nebraskans into the program going forward. They might not turn into starters among skill players or the quarterbacks, but they will find a place with that extra effort in special teams, lineman, or whatever positions that need competition pushed to the highest level. Husker kids will do that to out of state commits. The current roster has 43% from the state of Nebraska (59 out of 136) 1997-98 team had 58% from the state. More players back then (110 Neb out of 188) We do need the best players we can get, but sometimes those guys just don't pan out as much as they were hyped.
  7. The N on the helmet, the sea of red, the blackshirts, Go Big Red chants, all the great I-Backs and fullbacks, Tom Osborne, Memorial Stadium, red beers, shake -n- bake chicken on game days, maybe some corn on the cobb & French fries or wings, Huskerboard, and of course, the great "Cornhuskers" nickname. I'm sure there is other stuff too. *Note: shake n bake is optional, but hey it's pretty good stuff
  8. Pleased since day 1. Now just curious about the remaining staff hires, how the recruiting unfolds, and a fresh start during spring practices.
  9. I'd guess he had some funyuns and teared up a little bit. Was an emotional night I'm sure.
  10. Great work LOMS. Always enjoyed these each week
  11. 4 teams. I like it because in the previous model there was an argument that one team was equally deserving to play for the championship and got left out. For example, Alabama vs FSU for the championship game. A good argument is that Oregon deserves to play for the CG as much as Bama or FSU. Now the 4 team playoff eliminates this mess and gives all three that are deserving a fair shot. The 4th team is just gravy at this point, and it provides the extra team needed to accomplish this. Moving forward, I don't believe that a team ranked 4th at end of the season is as good as #1 or #2, but might be debatable against a #3 team. I think the 4th team is the clear underdog. More than 4 teams waters it down. Most years 5-8 will enter the playoffs and be "one and done". And those are wasted games. Especially if you run the table, earned the top 1 or 2 spot, and in round one - your QB hurts an ankle and is out of the picture - and it happens in a game playing the 7th or 8th seed. That would suck for the program and people that want to see the 2 best teams playing for a championship. I don't think college football is for Cinderella stories that have 2 losses and knocks off a top team without that teams best player available. Because it becomes another debate and room for arguments. The playoff is fine with 4...lets get the best 2 in the championship and enjoy a great game. Good luck to Ohio State. I don't think they are deserving just because they beat Michigan State and Wisconsin and NOBODY else, and now get to play Alabama without their best player at QB. Pretty sure Bama will game plan stuff that the 3rd stringer will be unprepared and freak out about while the Tide cruises to an easy win..........but whatever. Not so sure the results would be the same if Bama was playing TCU since they are full strength and more tested then the Buckeyes, while statistically having the better offense, defense and QB.
  12. A thought and a few questions here... What was the injury to Adam Taylor? Will he be fully healthy and roughly when? Also, what are the sizes of these backs (height/weight)? Specifically Wilbon, Taylor, Bussey? Are any of them speed burners? Who is the quickest/fastest? Newby? I think one of the quicker guys will be groomed into a third down back role for passes out of the backfield in space.
  13. Oh I believe he's top 10. Was the first thing I mentioned. Just concerned if he has the size is all. No biggie anymore.
  14. why do people keep saying he is going to play DE in the NFL he is being projected by everyone to be a 3-4 OLB this thing about staying to get bigger doesn't matter They are saying the same things about Gregory that they said about Aldon Smith. Whether linebacker or DE, Aldon Smith takes the end, usually with an eye for the quarterback but fast enough to contain a running back working the edge. Aldon Smith didn't need to add any weight and leading the NFL in sacks was a great precedent for guys his size. Aldon Smith is 25 pounds heavier at 265. Ezekial Ansah from BYU is 278. Both similar and athletic. Gregory is a lean 245. He looks closer to 230. I'm not saying he isn't a great player, or how it will translate, but he still isn't quite the NFL size for the heavy grind it takes against NFL tackles. Those lineman have long arms and quick first steps too. If he gets 6-7 sacks a year as 1st round pick, that really isn't great value for the money. Just my opinion. I don't want to sound like a meanie
  15. The way I thought about it was different. Riley knows USC and it's a conference foe. So I thought about Bo up against a #1 Ohio State team for a similar situation. Also considered if it was Big 12 and going up against #1 OU or #1 Texas. At the end of day, I don't see it happening.
  16. Congrats DPE! That is so incredible. What an accomplishment for a FR. He earned and deserved it. We don't beat Iowa without him, and he shifted some momentum and hope in the MSU game too. So glad he a Husker!
  17. 22 Cleveland Johnny Manziel $8,247,250 23 Kansas City Dee Ford $8,158,700 24 Cincinnati Darqueze Dennard $7,978,898 25 San Diego Jason Verrett $7,889,002 26 Philadelphia Marcus Smith $7,799,088 27 Arizona Deone Bucannon $7,709,202 28 Carolina Kelvin Benjamin $7,664,250 29 New England Dominique Easley $7,303,549 30 San Francisco Jimmie Ward $7,112,534 31 Denver Bradley Roby $6,952,528 32 Minnesota Teddy Bridgewater $6,849,502
  18. I'm not typically skeptical, but if he was sore and beaten down going into Iowa week, I can see how Bo and RG might have had a sit down to discuss his future. An injury in the last game of year would invoke rehab prior to combine, and drop his draft value some. The game wasn't deciding a team championship. But like I said, that's being skeptical of me. The structure of the NFL draft allots money per pick. The top half is 4 year guarantee, but after that the 4th year guarantee becomes negotiable. 2nd round picks are guaranteed the first two years of the 4 year contract. If you get waived after two years as a 2nd round pick, damaged goods etc, a team doesn't pay you for the last two. Here is the money allotted per pick from the past draft. A pretty big difference between a 5th pick and 15th for example. 1 Houston Jadeveon Clowney $22,272,998 2 St. Louis Greg Robinson $21,284,098 3 Jacksonville Blake Bortles $20,654,810 4 Buffalo Sammy Watkins $19,935,603 5 Oakland Kahlil Mack $18,676,999 6 Atlanta Jake Matthews $16,429,501 7 Tampa Bay Mike Evans $14,631,502 8 Cleveland Justin Gilbert $12,833,502 9 Minnesota Anthony Barr $12,743,500 10 Detroit Eric Ebron $12,249,149 11 Tennessee Taylor Lewan $11,485,004 12 New York Odell Beckham $10,406,198 13 St Louis Aaron Donald $10,136,500 14 Chicago Kyle Fuller $9,687,002 15 Pittsburgh Ryan Shazier $9,507,212 16 Dallas Zach Martin $8,967,800 17 Baltimore C.J. Mosley $8,787,999 18 New York Calvin Pryor $8,563,253 19 Miami Ja’Waun James $8,428,398 20 New Orleans Brandin Cooks $8,383,452 21 Green Bay Ha Ha Clinton-Dix $8,338,501 And as for Mel Kiper lol....He has been known to hype his projections emphatically on a players physical measurables (height/weight/arm length/hand size/40 speed/bench/neck length) for his expert analysis. He usually skips over the concept of wysiwyg on the field. He can't mention a player without immediately mentioning his height and weight first and foremost. He get's many people mislead and focusing on that as a translation to success.
  19. I haven't purchased any 2014 games. I would like to know what is the best soccer game though. If anyone can recommend one I'd appreciate it. As for hockey, I still enjoy NHL10 and haven't felt a need to upgrade. I think it's the best game since the great "Blades of Steel" After the first minute of great memories, just to 7:10 for a minute
  20. Not just a great idea, but it's the Best thread of the month! FACT!
  21. Would be funny if Cutliff took that job after turning down Michigan offer. Who would ever imagine a coach from Duke turning down Michigan. Actually, it would be even funnier if he turned them both down.
  22. An expensive leather baseball glove from my grandpa. It was a little big for me for my age, but I spent hours and days and weeks breaking it in with oil and a baseball. Over the years I eventually grew into it and it became an extension of my hand as a middle infielder and eventually a third baseman. Played with it through middle and high school. Don't remember making an error with it. But I do recall a lot of spectacular plays because of it. I loved that glove. Somehow through a family move immediately after high school, it got lost and disappeared. So when I went and played a little minor league ball without it, I just wasn't the same player. Had a hard time mentally & physically adjusting to something else. Something real strange about baseball and superstitions. Plus I wasn't quite as talented as the others, so there's that too lol. My grandpa played for the Omaha McDevitts. Not sure if anyone has every heard of them before. I think they went something like 33-1. Maybe someone's older relative remembers a little bit about them. They ended up winning a national championship. Anyway, that was my greatest Christmas gift. http://www.nebaseballhistory.com/legion/fontenelle1939.html
