  1. Fox announced lthisast week that they are no longer interested in bidding for the Pac 12/10. While I understand the lack of value in the conference as a whole without USC and UCLA, is there value of paying more than it is worth as is to prevent ESPN from buying it? It's almost certainly an issue if Fox just allows ESPN to get the rights to the Pac 12 with no fight considering they already have the SEC and ACC rights I would think. They would own 3/4 of the remaining conferences that are actually valuable and could literally freeze the Big Ten out of any credible non conference opponents and even possibly a significant amount of bowl games if they still exist in 5 years. ESPN controls every single bowl game except: The Holiday Bowl - Fox The Sun Bowl - CBS The Arizona Bowl - Barstool The Music City Bowl- ABC Citrus Bowl - ABC Everything I saw says ESPN owns the College football playoffs but none say if they own the games itself. I absolutely do not put it past ESPN to start making every bowl games they own Big Ten free if they get The Pac 12. And if they do own the rights of the playoff bowl sites, They absolutely are the kind of company that makes the Rose Bowl an SEC vs ACC game. Am I missing something here or is this the future if Fox hands the Pac 12/10 to ESPN without even bidding?
  2. I forgot all about "Mr Showtime". He was supposed to be the best safety in his class. How is he such a bust that he couldn't get any stats? Even on special teams? Dude got on the field at Ohio State but can't sniff a punt defense here?
  3. Easiest way to improve our talent is to give the head coach the power to make coaching hiring and firing decisions for the state high school coaches. Put coaches in those positions that steer players to the program, not away from it. Then get the high schools running Nebraska's most often used plays and being taught the Nebraska defensive style and offensive line blocking methods. The population is not large so you need every in state kid being interested in going to the program and already have a basic understanding of the playboook and terminology.
  4. He probably won't run the option but one of the biggest reasons he came here is that Nebraska will feature him in the run game more than Texas did. So who knows. Expecially with some of the speed we have now and the ability of our TE"s on delay pass options. He is a significantly better passer on the run than anyone we have had at the position in 30 years. Traditional option. No. But a rollout with Washington on the boundary and Vokelek over the top or break out running down the seam depending on what the OLB does. As a kind of modified knife combo with the x receiver running a post to the void to bind the Strong Safety. Depending on how the defense reacts determines if the RB is there to take a delayed handoff or to shoot ahead to block for the QB. There's a number of things you can layer into that over the year to mess with defenses. You could have a lot of fun with the pieces we have. A whole lot. Last year the DC got to have fun this year the OC does. And if Raiola is having a good time Whipple will be having the time of his life. And that's saying something with the group he had last year.
  5. If Corcoran starts it won't be at tackle. If it was me just putting them where I think they should go, Corcoran is either our center or right guard. Probably center. But there's indication that they are doing that and since he missed pretty much the entire spring he is going to have to really bust his a$$ if he wants to get in the conversation to start anywhere, let alone a new position. Though I would love to see it because it would mean either we are set on the edge or we have a pair of graters the backs can just follow all year. And I expect that Prochazka will get an injury year after playing missing half of the year with a blown knee. I don't know how it works out but my point is that we are getting a starting left tackle, just like if he came in through the portal. Except he knows what to do here and has several years of eligibility left.
  6. Technically we are getting a true OT. Prochazka was a freshman so it took a few games of playing well before he got named the starting left tackle but he finally got the start and was a rock against Northwestern. Then he blew out his knee early in the next game against Michigan and was out for the year. Remember. He was the 11th-best offensive tackle in the country and the No. 73 player overall. He was one of the reasons they started looking pretty good and then when he went down it was a massive blow to the offensive line. Getting him back is like bringing a starting left tackle with 5 years of eligibility left from the portal. Prochazka at LT and Nouilli at LG is a tandem you can run behind all year and be incredibly successful. Prochazka - Nouili - Hixon - Williams - Hunter Is a much improved starting line. Corcoran - Lutovsky - Piper - Bando - Benhart That is a very talented 2 deep. You also have Brant Banks that can play tackle giving you options to move guys around, go heavy or rest a guy over the course of the year. And to be ready to go when injuries happen as they always do. Before last year if you told me the backups were the Starting line I would have been thrilled. The talent for the most part is there, it just didn't translate to the field under Austin. Hopefully it will under Raiola. I think it will.
  7. Huh? Nebraska is doing just fine with NIL. They were way ahead of the curve setting up and though the University hasn't talked specifics that I have seen, Our players are making serious bank. Opendorse is one of the biggest NIL companies out there. According to Wikipedia, as of July 2019, Opendorse was on pace to become the largest sports content publisher following a $3.1M round of funding. It's not a coincidence that it's run by Blake Lawrence and Adi Kunalic and is headquarters is about 2 blocks from Memorial Stadium. Not to mention the half a dozen other companies and organizations that Nebraska is partnered with that our players are using through . ABM (a Nebraska NILcollective ) has gotten players over $3.5M so far as of a few weeks ago, and that doesn't include the Brandr Group, NilBraska, or the new N100 marketplace (https://n100-husker.com/) or the a certain booster club in Omaha that is charging members $5k for membership and is then paying some serious change to players to come speak at the dinner and maybe watch a little film. Hell Trey Palmer hasn't played a down at Nebraska yet but he has a deal for a Nebraska NFT for $4700. I wouldn't be worried too much about these guys moving on.
  8. Between NilBraska, Opendorse, ABM, The Brandr Group, and Fanword among others, Nebraska is doing very well compared to national nil opportunities. And that's not including the independent offers or donation sites like Patreon. Other than self control and schedule management issues where kids are learning how to handle having to turn down or limit their nil activity during the season and other athletic commitments, which is generally minimally bumpy there has been only one major issue with the NIL opportunities and athletes getting to maximize them has been the nightmare noone saw coming that is currently a massive problem nationally but has hit a few Nebraska players incredibly hard. For some stupid reason, when the idiots at the ncaa and Washington hammered out this NIL stuff noone bothered to check how NIL was going to affect players who are here on an international visa. Because being on a visa for school is very different from being here on a work visa and it's causing international players and school administrators massive headaches. International players are having to be very careful and most of them are not able to get any NIL money without putting themselves in severe jeopardy with the feds.
  9. I hope this isn't true, we can get a game in Vegas any time against anyone. This game is something of a tradition in Ireland and playing in it without either army or Notre Dame is rare. It would not be a good look to cancel. We have the opportunity to make a lot of new fans of the team, or to make a lot of people, people who don't care about sports at all to hate Nebraska. It could be a pretty big non sports political story if we bail out to go to Vegas. Besides the Stadium in Vegas is the site of a big ten bowl game. If we quit sucking we might end up playing there next season anyway.
  10. Dline recruiting under Tuioti was absolutely awful. He didn't recruit anyone on the two deep last year and it doesn't look like he brought anyone in that will be a contributing factor going forward either. Thankfully Dawson brought in some talent before he went to the NFL and is back but they are gonna have to find some guys quickly because the Dline is super thin. We really needed to get the Murphy brothers that picked ucla. We have a few guys like Ty Robinson and Casey Rodgers that Dawson brought in before he left in 18 (and maybe Nash Huntmacher who Ryan Held brought in) but behind that it's a bunch of older guys who have never cracked the two deep or younger guys that haven't seen the field. Right now I am not sure we have an 8 man rotation that isn't going to get rolled over, let alone quality depth to fill in when injuries hit.
  11. I am very confused.Allen was underutilized but Martinez is going to carve it up for KSU? Did some of you watch the games last year? The coaches put Allen in position to succeed all the time. The only reason Allen didn't have double the touchdowns he did is because he couldn't jump higher. Game after game Allen would be wide open on a simple roll-out or curl with nothing between him and the endzone and Martinez would throw it so far over his head that he couldn't even jump high enough to get fingertips on the ball. But who knows, after 4 years Martinez finally learned how to throw a consistently good screen pass that didn't force the receiver to change speed suddenly or to contort their body to get the ball. Maybe year 6 is where he learns to throw to it up where an NFL caliber TE can go get it. Too bad he doesn't play with one any more.
  12. What a weak way to define a prediction. They didn't beat em so they probably won't.. lol. Those were all winnable close games last year and none of those teams brought in anyone of significant importance. The only one who you can say they have is Michigan State and it was at a position of reloading a position that was already excellent last year. Nebraska made the most significant change that was needed. A qb who walks off throwing touchdowns not handing out free wins to the other team. These 3 and one piece still on the way would put Nebraska in the position to control the division for thevsecond year in a row.. It doesn't mean they will win, but it's their division to win or throw away. With a little more stability and More important than possibly any other metrics, a far easier Cross division slate.
  13. Not really. Our Dline is the biggest issue the team has and is going to be the difference in 2-3 wins or losses this season. And the division isn't exactly overwhelming but what most teams do have? A pretty good QB. We need a better pass rush and are going to need more bodies that can play period in order to even have a shot at a winning season. The difference between a winning season and a Division title is paper thin.
  14. I have been hoping they were going to offer the twins. That would be a great addition to the roster and would help solve our DLine problems. Landing Mathis too would land Nebraska in the conversation for winning the division and winning the conference.
  15. I don't really understand the entire story but apparently Daniel's mother used her credit card to pay for some recruits to visit ASU in return for from what I understand were promises from the coaches about something. Dunno if it was about Daniel's spot on the depth chart or what. But the charges predate nil. Dunno if now that nil is a thing there's still a problem or not but payments trading recruits hotel and travel costs in return for something from the coaches still seems like it wouldn't fall under nil? But who knows.
  16. Why would Nebraska one of the winningest programs and biggest fanbases in the country switch from Adidas where we are given tier 1 AAA status to go join the rest of the morons who are wearing cheap ugly Nike gear made by poor sweatshop workers? When no matter how big your fanbase is or how much you win and how many titles you have are always going to be second status to an Oregon program that has litterally never done a single legitimately impressive or noteworthy thing in the history of the sport. Expecially when Nebraska has the best contract of anyone nationally not named Oregon. Based on the last articles I can find we have the 2nd best active Adidas contract behind Louisville and the 2nd best deal in the Big Ten behind Ohio States Nike deal. I dont know if those are current but I do know we're near the top of whatever the current numbers are. Because what Nebraska has that makes our deal better than any program in the entire country and why there's not a chance in hell we are walking away from it is that Nebraska has a favored nation's clause with Adidas. Noone else has one. Basically Nebraska can review the deal at certain points and if Adidas doesn't have Nebraska's deal in the same range as its other top deals Nebraska can give Adidas the opportunity to adjust Nebraska's deal to be in that range and they are legally required to make a good faith offer in that range. If they don't or Nebraska just doesn't like the deal Nebraska can simply terminate the deal. Meaning that while other schools are stuck in their contract no matter what deals are made after it is signed for the length of the deal, Nebraska is guaranteed to always be among the top few biggest deals. Guaranteed and this clause can't be revoked even under new contract language as long as Nebraska doesn't sign elsewhere. Nebraska also serves host to the Adidas OL DL pipeline camp where Adidas brings in and hosts the top senior and juco players in the country in Lincoln for Nebraska to evaluate and basically get a free visit for a bunch of top linemen to come see campus, see the facilities and meet the coaches that doesn't count as their official visit to Nebraska. There's no chance at all that Nebraska is giving that deal up. Likely ever.
  17. Why does he need to? He's not on scholarship so who cares. Let the dude practice with the team, be a positive leader and carry the flag out of the tunnel. Not hurting anyone by doing that.
  18. Oh my God yes. I have to be honest I have season tickets in the north end zone and I knew these seats existed but not that it was like that. A couple of years ago (2019 OSU) after Martinez threw his 3rd pick people started clearing out and a buddy of mine was in town came up from St. Louis for the game and texted me and had us to come sit with them over there. First of all those stairs are a disaster and I was not prepared for that view. It's a good thing we didn't care about watching the rest of the game at that point because you couldn't see the other half of the field. Granted we were talking and catching up for most of the time but it was impossible to follow the game without watching the little video screens. Absolutely unacceptable. I really admire anyone who has spent years foing to games or expecially having season tickets under there. If I had I would have had them come to us. There were plenty of open seats in our section too and you could actually see...... on second thought considering how the game went maybe not seeing was better. Unfortunately I won't be going to any games for the foreseeable future. Where our seats are I can't handle the climb anymore. I was so happy when they announced that they were putting in escalators a couple of years ago. But then covid hit and that got pushed back andfrom what I can tell have been removed from the plans now.
  19. I would rather keep it 9 but alter the times Week 1&2 OOC WEEKS 3-7 4 big ten games 1 bye WEEK 8 OOC WEEK 9-14 5 big ten games 1 bye
  20. Why do people act like just cause a kid is from Omaha he is anything at all the same as another? If you take a kid from Millard West and a kid from Bryan and stood them back to back and asked them to answer 10 questions about their general daily life and world view, you might wonder if they are even from the same country. Ask a kid from Roncali those same questions and you might wonder if it's a different planet.
  21. Anyone who thinks Frost shouldn't run the offense is nuts. Whipple's job here is here to recruit and develop top level QB's. Whipple can offer valuable insight and probably be very helpful when it comes to the redzone troubles and helping to cover up weakness. Whipple is replacing both Lubick and Verduzco and is a MASSIVE upgrade over both. In recruiting, development, game planning and as Frost's eyes in the booth. MASSIVE upgrade. Anyone who thinks that's a bad thing is also nuts. But Joseph is as big a reason the offense will improve as anyone. We are going to get significantly better wr production, and the most noticeable area won't be in the receptions but as blockers in the screen and option game. Just as long as the D line doesn't kill them. Barrett Ruud better be worth it.
  22. Jackson couldn't qualify. That's why they took Grant. Jackson not qualifying doesn't affect Allen at all. This was set as soon as they hired Applewhite.
  23. The staff has done a phenomenal job so far this class. There's a couple of guys I would love to see them pick up that would be great finishing touches to this class. Logan Sagapolu out of Oregon OC/OG 6'3 340 (4for4) Between going on mission, covid and a redshirt year he's basically a 20 year old redshirt freshman with 4 years of eligibility and would give us a legitimate center option who at the minimum would be a multi position backup who gives us another option to allow others to move around. And Naquan Brown out of Pitt DE/OLB 6'2 205 (4for4 or 5for4 depending on how the covid year works) He will have to hit the weight room and get up to the 225-230 range but then could slide in and play DE and OLB in JoJo's old role. He's quick and has good burst off the line. He's not super tall but he has a great wingspan and elite athleticism. I have no idea why he went to Pitt, he doesn't fit what Narduzi does at all but he would be absolutely great in Chinander's.
  24. The line for the most part were all mostly below average except for a few notable players. Cam Jergens and Ezra Miller were good. Matt Sichterman Ethan Piper and most notably Nouredin Nouili were serviceable and then we have Bryce Benhart and Turner Cochran. Benhart and Corcoran were without a doubt the absolute worst starting tackle tandem in the power 5 and possibly all of division 1 football. They were simply abysmal and yet they each recorded over 700 snaps last year. Of the 159 QB pressures Nebraska gave up last season, 99 were by Benhart and Corcoran. The entire rest of the team gave up 60. Of the 29 sacks given up, 11 were from Benhart and Corcoran. The rest of the team gave up 18. Of the 37 offensive penalties 12 were from Corcoran and Benhart. The rest of the team gave up 25. (Jergens gave up 6 and Sichterman had 4). Only 10 offensive penalties all season were made by a player that didn't play on the olie. The left side of LT Ezra Miller and LG Nouredin Nouili will actually be pretty good. I Would put Piper at Center and then start with Bando at RG Prochazka at RT going into spring camp. But RT, RG and every backup position is open for a real battle. Those guys have the edge and it will be at least serviceable. If Raiola can get one or two of these highly ranked and underachieving guys to play like they were projected to play this line could be really good. It will upgrade significantly with better tackle play alone. And it's nearly impossible for them to be as bad as last year. You can't go lower than a 0 grade and that's what Corcoran graded out at as a pass blocker last season. A 0. https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/nebraska-position-review-offensive-line
