  1. Washington and McCaffrey wouldn't have close to the same role if McCaffrey is at WR. Washington is a RB who can be motioned into the slot or catch out of the backfield McCaffrey would either be at the Z as a deep threat/end around target or come in as a sub for Kade Warner when they need more speed at that spot. Saying Washington being on the field means McCaffrey won't would be like if you had said if Marlon Lucky was on the field in 2008, Niles Paul wouldn't be.
  2. If he said he wants to go there yes they would make room. My point was I don't think they accept the offer from the DE right now if they thought that was a possibility.
  3. With a healthy Martinez last season is a 6 win season. Thus with a healthy Martinez and an easier schedule we should expect 9 wins. If a 2nd year coach doesn't make a +3 jump from their year 1 to year 2 it doesn't bode well for the future.
  4. Minnesota just recently accepted an offer from a DE that puts them at 24 commits for the class. This leads me to think they are out of the Johnson race. Wisconsin is more interesting but they still have a lot of positions to fill and already have 4 linebacker commits. They also may be spending one or two scholarships on special teams this class which limits some of their other numbers.
  5. Technically no. In 1997 Newcombe was only a WR and never listed on the QB depth chart. The backups in 1997 were Frankie London and Monte Christo. When Newcombe moved to QB in 1998 he was no longer listed as a WR and caught zero passes that season. Conversely Frankie London was only a QB in 1997 and only a WR in 1998. Essentially Newcombe and London swapped positions.
  6. Michigan did this with Denard Robinson and Devin Gardner. Gardner was both a primary WR and the #2 QB.
  7. A rival is a measuring stick. Not one team on our permanent schedule is a true measuring stick for this program. NONE of them force the program to push to match or exceed what they are capable of because none of them have ever even proven capable of more than we are able to be when less than our best. Of the group, most are incapable of being a REAL threat on a consistent basis in any capacity, Iowa is generally barely better than we are at our worst and in the division, only Wisconsin is even able to show themselves to to be consistently as good as we are when we are at our historical average. No program in our division is one we should be worried about a loss to in any year we are legitimately playing like a national championship contender and thus none of them are going to push us to get to beyond that point as a true rival. We had a potential really good future rival set up with Penn State when the divisions were first formed and sadly the conference took that away with the new divisions.
  8. The problem with the Gophers is they have the worst coach in the division not named Lovie Smith.
  9. No more than Missouri was. Iowa is basically Missouri 2.0
  10. Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, ‘cause I've watched a lot of football and I tell you people do that all the time.
  11. Husker baseball over the past few years generally opperates at about a $750,000 loss. Bringing in about $1.5M in revenue while spending just under $2.5M in expenses. That is with Erstad making about 1/2 of what he could have had he not been willing to take a hometown discount. To get a top tier name coach we will need to pay around $800k at minimum. That isn't going to happen unless they estimate doing that will also raise revenue to the point that it's not just a $1M annual loss. Assuming they are willing to pay to lure them my top 5 in order would be 1. Greg Lovelady 2. Dan Heefner 3. Pat Casey 4. Jeff Duncan 5. Rob Childress I don't want an assistant. Nebraska ties or not. Right now this program still has the facilities and support to allow a really good coach to dominate this conference... if we make a weak hire now, that may not be the case next time around. The longer we are in the big ten without winning, the harder it will be to do it.
  12. Of all the dumb comments in this thread this may be the dumbest I've seen and that's saying a lot.
  13. I'm perfectly aware of this spin. I'm also aware of how our AD treats Darrin Erstad. So excuse me while I laugh.
  14. If you know absolutely nothing about basketball then yes it's a great post. Anyone who actually thinks Miles is on the hot-seat right now is nuts or has zero idea of what Nebraska Basketball looked like 8 years ago. It's very likely if we're looking for a new coach next year, it's not because Miles was fired but because he took a different job due to the amount of people in this fanbase who have zero idea what reality is.
  15. Sorry, G5 teams need not apply. They has a choice between playing for a championship or getting a slice of the P5 pie. They chose the cash. They are more than welcome to stop taking the money and play for a G5 championship if they want, until then they get the deal they signed on for. You also don't need 8. No need for a full round of extra games. 6 teams is all we need, 5 champions and 1 at large. Committee ranks the conferences to determine the at large and the seeds. Top 2 seeds get a bye.
  16. This is one of Eichorst's biggest failures. We should have started planning the next upgrade project at minimum 2 years ago. Now not only are we not ahead of the curve we're in real danger of falling behind it.
  17. Honestly I don't know how Iowa's entire administration hasn't been arrested for this yet. Forcing sick children to watch Iowa football has to be illegal in at least a dozen different ways.
  18. No and they never will be. Iowa is what Missouri used to be. A team we played for a trophy noone cared about that just irritates us but is not ever going to be a real threat nationally. Wisconsin is our new Colorado. A rowdy fanbase who's program has tasted some national success but has yet to prove it can take that big step up. We don't have a rival right now. It was starting to be Penn State till the conference screwed up the scheduling system last expansion. My guess is that when expansion happens again in a few years we will see a Rival for Nebraska emerge. But right now it isn't there. FWIW: Northwestern is a more likable ksu. Guess we always have do deal with the purple kitties in some form. Illinois is ISU with less condiments. Purdue is Kansas and they are currently in their Mangino stage until Brohm leaves.
  19. Tina's is so far though to walk on gameday. They really need to find a bigger shop closer to the Stadium.
  20. He's Tommy Armstrong with a weaker deep ball and no Jordan Westerkamp.
  21. Just to put the numbers out there: Over the past 10 full years (2008-2017) Nebraska had a record of 85-47 and a winning percentage of .643. That is the 22nd most wins and 24th best win percentage in the country over that span. Teams ranked 25-28 in win percentage over that span are in order - Navy, Notre Dame, Auburn and Iowa. Over that last 10 year span Michigan State had 93 wins (+8) Penn State had 89 wins (+4) Notre Dame had 82 wins (-3) Texas had 78 wins (-7) and Michigan had 74 wins (-11).
  22. Riley yes. Nothing short of a scandal sees him not get a full season with his own QB at the helm. Eichorst on the otherhand, very likely would have been fired within a few weeks.
