  1. I think Boise State and BYU could have been the replacements for the Big 12 north.

  2. I've watched Boise State enough to know they have one of the best offenses in college football. I was surprised they let Va Tech back in the game but was not surprised they used a final drive to win the game. I usually root for Boise but tonight was sort of rooting against them because a loss knocks them out of the championship picture. The perfect storm has built for them... They have proven they are exciting winners in past BCS Bowls, They have a high pre-season ranking, They went undefeated last year, Everyone knows they are good and not just a novelty, If they go undefeated it is going to be difficult to keep them out of the national championship especially if there 1) are no other undefeated teams and 2) there is a 1 loss team they are competing against and that 1 loss team has lost to a non-ranked opponent...i.e. there will be a lot of "we can't let in that team because they lost to <insert your 6-5 or 5-6 team here>." The thing that hurt about tonight's game was realizing only more that we should have never gotten beat by VA Tech last year. Argghhh! If Boise makes it all the way, so be it...it will be a culmination of a perfect storm that has been building for several years. I do still think Boise blew it and should have tried to get an offer to join a revised Big 12 in the future. Instead they jumped at the Mountain West offer which nobody cares about.
  3. Good to know. I was expecting him out for this week but maybe he sees action afterall.
  4. Will be interesting to see if he can play at UW. I don't expect we will see him play against Idaho.
  5. We'll know more each game. Idaho had a winning record and bowl victory last season...I expect we will find out much more about our defense. But pretty much agree on the road at UW will be a very serious test and we should know quite a bit after that game.
  6. Saw the game and we are fine. It is hard to put a lot of stock into this game against the type of lower competition we played tonight. Martinez gives us that extra added threat compared to Green and Lee so I say go with him until he proves us otherwise but he had a great game tonight. I am not too worried about it actually because we have Green and Lee who can both also play. This is a good problem, people...we have a potentially electric running QB in Martinez, Green is getting better, and we have experience with Lee. Lavonte David at LB was the standout on defense tonight. We are thin at LB and it showed but David was solid. Not sure what to make of the D-Line. Meredith did get injured and went out out of the game and at first I was concerned because you could see Suh's presence was missed and we were not getting much pressure on the QB in second half. I wonder if we just shut the D-Line down after the half...I mean why give opponents a look at what we will do on blitzes and other schemes...it was almost like we wanted to give the LB's and DB's some work. I hope I am right about this because our D-Line did not get the pressure we are going to need to beat better competition. Without the pressure, WKU made our defense look pretty weak on some drives. On offense, I like what Kinnie is doing. Hated to see that Paul fumble but still expect a solid season from him and to be serious playmaker for us. Surprised McNeil didn't get some catches. The RB's will be fine but I was surprised we tried to run Tray sideways when he should clearly be a north/south runner. That was the only thing I scratched my head on the offense for tonight. The O-Line can improve. Yoshi is HUGE! All in all a solid win and really don't think we can get too high on some of the great plays or too low on some of the poor plays.
  7. I haven't weighed in on the QB race but if it is T-Magic I will not be that surprised. Lee and Green didn't exactly light it up last year...a lot of you have short memories. Yes I'd like to see Lee and Green improve but it is not that unlikely that Bo wants more of a runner at QB or at least to develop this as a threat...packages for Martinez will be part of the offense and the future with Carnes and Turner point to this as well. I won't be surprised if all QB's get multiple series in the first 2 games. Then see how it plays out for the UW game on the road...that will be nervous time for our offense so we better have it together by then. Maybe we go Tebow/Leak style this year...the end result worked out pretty well.
  8. The more I think about Iowa I see them like a Colorado or a Missouri. I do hope we keep the day after Thanksgiving as game day. Having Penn State for that date would be epic as two premier programs would be awesome. Iowa would be my second choice as a border war for that date.
  9. Saw Crouch on the post game. Pitt-Utah was the best game of the night so likely drew some fans (I saw the halftime score and it drew me over there). Crouch was solid...fit well with the Versus crew...I thought he did fine and was up to the job. Nice start.
  10. Crazy video...glad to see he wasn't hurt worse. Hope he is alright, Hawkeye. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/video-iowa-football-player-will-miss-season-opener-after-shock-accident/
  11. His face melted like the guy on Raiders of the Lost Ark because he did that. :rollin
  12. Long time Rome listener...he still is fairly solid and does a good job. Gets good interviews but lots of times too predictable with the questions. Got in to Cowherd about 2 years ago...but listen less now because I realize (and he admits as much)...Cowherd is just there to take an annoying position and get reaction...so sometimes he just comes off as extremely arrogantly unintelligent (if you listened to him enough you know what I mean). I listen to Cowherd because he does talk a lot of college football. I like baseball but Cowherd is awful with his Yankees/Red Sox and "everyone else" schtick. Gotta get some reaction to this...I find myself listening to Cowherd because he is up against Dan Patrick in same time slot. What is it about Dan Patrick that he continually champions himself as going independent from ESPN...but then he can't go more than one segment without referencing his days at the "mothership" and reminiscing about old Sports Center inside info!? All he does is talk about how he is better then ESPN but then ESPN is where he gets all of his material from. We get it dude...you were once on ESPN...now you are not on ESPN...and dude you now suck! I feel bad for some of the Dannettes (which can be funny sometimes) but Dan Patrick is brutal these days. Agree? Or am I the only one?
  13. The permanent cross-over with Penn State will be exciting. That has to get most fans charged up. Initially if they had done it geographically we'd have Wisconsin and Illinois instead of Michigan and Mich. St. I was looking forward to going against Wisconsin every year...but can't complain...playing Michigan every year will be exciting. I think we are in the tougher division and plus we still get Penn State every year! This is a schedule that if we can go through (even with a loss) should have us in the BCS every year. Ohio State has shown they can do it. I expect us to be there. Excited for 2011...but first 2010! Git R Done! :throwdabones1:
  14. I'm excited about Pierre Allen. He should have a great year. I expect Roy and Rex to both have very solid years also. Encouraging to hear about T-Mart and will be fun to see him get a chance. Every year I expect the WR's to break out...we are not quite there yet with WR consistency but McNeil, Paul, and Kinnie should be a force. A bit concerned about LB...based on comments seem a bit immature/thin there. We have some good players at LB but will they work in the system. Bo sounds like he knows they are athletic enough but these guys have to play smart.
  15. Two recent predictions not only have our season at 11-1 but thought it was interesting both predicted the one loss to be at Texas A&M. http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&ATCLID=204976143&DB_OEM_ID=100 and http://nebraska.statepaper.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2010/08/11/4c62cb3bafd59 I am noticing in conversations that Texas A&M seems to be the trendy pick to make a run at the south this year and have a very good season. The games we could drop that we should win that scare me a bit right now are @Washington...streaky team that can get hot in spurts...we need to put up points on them to win. If our offense cannot move against the best team we will see to that point, we will have problems. UW is very opportunistic and Locker has enough experience now to pull out big wins that UW could not pull off in recent seasons with Locker as more of a raw QB. Also @OK State...coming off the Texas game week prior causes concern for a let down.
  16. Tevin will play this month at the ESPN Rise Games which are 7 on 7 competitions. http://rise.espn.go.com/football/articles/2010/Honors/Commitment-Updates.aspx
  17. Chickillo with Gerald McCoy. http://www2.tbo.com/content/2010/jul/06/060022/sp-chickillo-gets-friendly-advice/sports-bucs/
  18. I watched the show and it was painful at times. I hope this type of thing does not happen again. Lebron seems to be a genuinely good guy but man did he get bad advice doing this thing. Tried to make it look down home and quaint but came off as a bad play at the local gym. Beginning was too drawn out. There was no need to put Cleveland in that position...it obviously set off their owner who said some pretty bad things about Lebron (I don't in any way justify what the owner said). It obviously punched some of the Cav fans in the gut unnecessarily. Why hurt your image with this? Then to hit the Cav fans with all the tweets and clips about how great it is for Miami and how Cleveland loses out yet again. Those stories would come out over the days but why create a whole show about it? That is what puzzles me...you could tell it was eating at Lebron that he knew this act was going to hurt Cleveland but it was if someone said "You gotta do this ESPN thing!"...half the time seemed like Lebron didn't even want to be there. And Jim Gray?! Bad choice to be interviewed by...not very likable, too stiff, takes air out of room, long pauses. The follow up with Michael Wilbon was more appropriate. My advice...if it wasn't all about him, Lebron should have just come out with presser shortly thereafter or at same time Bosh and Wade were announced...this is about winning, best place to win, want to play with these guys, sincere thanks to Cleveland, etc. Then let this go over for a couple days and then have like Magic Johnson do an interview with all 3 of them (Lebron, Wade, and Bosh). This would be a fun interview but could still have some serious questions for Lebron about leaving Cleveland which is completely legitimate. I think the reaction to something like that would be, "wow, cool for them and they will be fun to watch". Instead Lebron is hated by his home state, burning his jersey, and the Heat are dubbed the next evil empire. Dude Lebron, next time call me before you get more bad advice.
  19. That was classic when the OSU band dude crunched the camera man. Remember seeing that live and it still makes me laugh every time.
  20. Jordan Campbell will transfer out of USC. Apparently there is interest in Boise State and he likely will have other options soon. http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/news/story?id=5287292
  21. I want to keep the UCLA home and home series. We already have Washington lined up from the Pac 10 next couple years. I also bet in future we can have another home and home series with another Pac 10 team...Colorado.
  22. Very funny stuff. Bob Stoops BCS record and Mangino lines are classic.
