  1. Player: Chris Whaley Hometown: Madisonville, TX Position: RB Height: 6'3" Weight: 220 lbs. 40 time: 4.5 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Florida State, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State Favorites: Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: Assessing the talent: A Rivals100 member; one of the best TX RB recruits for '09. Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 15% Too early to know. See this link which talks about Chris and his brother, Alonzo Whaley, who is a '08 LB recruit we also have offered. Linky: http://www.brazossports.com/football/Madis...keall_stateteam Video link: Link to his brother Alonzo Whaley thread: http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24211
  2. Word is he will be the top recruit from Nevada for '09.
  3. Has committed to UNLV. Linky says UNLV will give him chance at RB and also he says NU stopped recruiting him once Cally was let go. http://recruiting.scout.com/2/714125.html
  4. I hope he is not going to CU. Is this official? With losing Kuli, Williams, and Harper on D-Line, Meredith is key DE recruit. We need massive D-Line help. It would seem to me that some of these recruits would realize they now leap to the top of the list for early playing time. Kuli still blows my mind...I think most would agree he would have been able to start right away.
  5. See importance of realtionships...there is a link to a Scout article in this post of mine: http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24092 HANC, I like LaMichael James as eventually being N. He and Okafor would be two good RB's for this class.
  6. See link for long article: http://nebraska.scout.com/2/713004.html Did not agree with everything in here but the blunt truth was that we have to remember these kids had relationships with the prior staff and basically since mid-October BC and company were uncertain and did not maintain contact with these recruits. It would be interesting to know how much recruiting Watson and Gilmore did from this point. So, per article other programs have been hammering us for months on end which really hurts. Bottomline is that our new staff has to make new relationships with new recruits to replace some of these kids and we are seeing that now and will have to see what that produces by signing day. The news that Tom Osborne is going to be permanent AD signals to me that we are showing there is going to be stability and to remind these kids we have someone of the utmost stature when it comes to college football who may be the greatest college football coach ever! A strong showing by Pelini's defense in the BCS championship will also do wonders for us in recruiting. I have to believe there are still strong recruits out there who now realize the opportunity there is to play at NU. While I know there were relationships with prior staff, I am shocked some of these defensive recruits have decommitted...I think it will come back to haunt them. Pelini's defense is constantly on TV and talked about in college football coverage nationally. These decommits will not get same exposure at CU, MU, or Oregon State. I think we are going to still get some top recruits and those recruits are going to have opportunity to play early. Keep the faith Husker fans! GBR
  7. I'd like us to get Magee to replace some of our lost LB recruits. Anyone know anything more about him? He seems wide open and likes us. I think his aggressiveness could work well with Bo's defense. Here's his bio from Scout...a potential NU baseball player also! Magee may be better suited for safety in college, and he has the speed to play there, but he's a punishing hitter, who's aggressive and mean. An excellent athlete, he's also a highly touted baseball player.
  8. I am disheartened by the loss of some of our recruits but I think we will get some quality recruits to replace them. I can't understand the decommits on defense. Maybe BC's tactic I heard about with Mohler was more widespread than I thought. I had a post on Mohler that BC guaranteed him a starting position. Maybe this was the case with Compton also? As for Kuli, that one probably shocks me the most...Oregon State is not exactly DE University. Things will get better when we start hearing about new names committing to us. Right now there are defensive openings to play on a team that will be focused on defense and where the Blackshirts will be back! I am getting anxious to see what type of defensive recruits we get now. And I think Watson can get good offensive players into our system. We'll be back!
  9. I was wondering what happened to this kid. He is down to (once was at 4) at Rivals. Here is a recent link. Sounds like he gets mail from us but Watson should pay him a visit if we want to be in the mix with him. http://recruiting.scout.com/2/710290.html
  10. I would love for us to get in touch with D.J. again. Watson needs to talk to him. I see Woods as a not your typical WR and I'd like to see him in Watson's plans.
  11. Has committed to Miami. He could have done better IMO.
  12. Oregon State? He's listed as committed to Nebraska on Rivals and Scout. Might just be noise to sell some subcriptions. I can't imagine he'd want to leave now that Pelini is here. He is a key defensive recruit and one that really wasn't tied to BC. This makes no sense. Be strong, Simi!
  13. Has committed to South Carolina.
  14. Saw this at Husker Journal. Good to see Blue is recruiting some of his friends from his high school. I think we could use another CB for this class...sounds like we haven't offered Brown yet. Arkansas, Missouri, Baylor, and Iowa State are also recruiting Brown in addition to schools listed in article below. DECEMBER 10, 2007. PREP STAR GREG BROWN, CB, 5-11, 165, 4.5, CEDAR HILL, TEXAS Has offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Arizona, TCU and North Texas. “I just came back from Arizona and liked it a lot. I liked Tucson, I can adapt to the environment there.” said Greg, “I chilled out with the players and went to some parties.” “I like coach Stoops. The Arizona coaches told me I can play early there.” “I go to Kansas this weekend and I will visit Kansas State some time in January.” he said. “Kansas has a nice business school, which is what I’m looking for. I like the Kansas staff they told me that I could play early too. I have a friend that plays at Kansas right now.” “I like coach Ron Prince (Kansas State), I don’t know much about them right now. Kansas State has a good business college too.” “Anthony Blue (Nebraska), called me today (12/9), and want me to come up for a visit.” said Greg, “I don’t know if I will, Nebraska has not offered me yet.”
  15. I am a bit surprised he ended up at Oregon. Maybe he should have just stuck with Miami? I was hoping Pelini would get him to come here. Good luck to him.
  16. I think the Zac Taylor comparison is better than Colt Brennan. Actually Brennan was at this same camp so I got to see him there as well. Renfree is still raw...he is going to be able to throw deeper than ZT was capable of. Actually, I'll say Renfree will be like a cross between Zac (smart, heady) and Sam Keller (pocket passer, good gun)...imagine a lighter Sam Keller with ZT smarts. There you go...I saw him at some practices and have him pegged for the rest of his career!
  17. Apparently he is back on open market in wake of UCLA firing of Karl Dorrell. Kid is from TX and wonder how much we might look at him again?
  18. Good to see he will visit...this link is just from 2 days ago and he had Okie State in big lead with visits to come still for Florida and Louisville...he also comments that we stopped recruiting him...looks like that changed...good to hear! http://recruiting.scout.com/2/710267.html
  19. I am glad to see we offered Renfree as obviously he is a solid prospect. Would love to see him at NU! That being said, I did get a chance to see him at the Elite 11 camp in southern CA back in July and unfortunately he did not stand out against the competition. In the video provided in this thread he appears fast but I would be shocked if he is faster than Gabbert. Renfree is listed as a 4.5 forty vs. Gabbert at 4.65 on Rivals...I don't believe that. Scout also has Renfree faster than Gabbert. From what I saw Renfree does not appear to be that fast and I wonder if in the video he is playing weaker competition. At the camp Renfree won the award for Most Likely To Succeed In College. He appears to be very smart and I didn't see him look bad...he just never looked awesome like some of the others at the camp did at times. My guess is he would play smart (like a Zac Taylor) but be able to gain some yards on the ground as well. He would control clock and ball well I would think. I see him as very consistent player who will keep you in the game and perhaps let playmakers and defense win you the game. He could be a good fit here. Just my 2 cents on what I observed back in July.
  20. Couldn't hurt to get back in contact with Demens. 1) We have Bo now so defense is no longer going to be ignored here. 2) Michigan is having a tough time getting a new coach in the door. 3) Mohler is now going to CU so Demens has great chance to play here early. Would be cool if we ended up getting Kenny afterall. Hope new staff gives him a call.
  21. Too bad...I liked D.J. and thought he would fit our program well. I got the sense he and his family really liked us also. Wish he'd still give us consideration but have not heard him comment about NU recently.
