  1. Taking over for B2B national champs and Bob Devany: 5 top 10 finishes. 1 (shared) conference title, 2 major bowl appearances, 1 major bowl win. Taking over for Bill Callahan: 0 top 10 finishes. 0 conference titles, 0 major bowl appearances. The Bill Callahan excuse went out of style after the 2011 season. You look very unfashionable right now. that isnt an excuse, that is a comparison between the situations. we can do it without using coaches names if you'd like but then you'd call that an excuse too.
  2. why was helu an afterthought for the skins last year? i saw morris had won the job then didnt even give them a second look the rest of the season. i thought he did a good job his rookie year that he wouldnt just disappear his second year.
  3. when did the ncaa lose its power? seems they dont do anything to address any of the problems now. oh wait, they hammered penn st for something the legal system should have taken care of.
  4. Ole Miss in known to be one of the top "payers" in the SEC, and that's why alot of recruits have them high on their lists. They got some guys that like to throw money around down there. Their Coaching at Ole Miss must really suck if they are the best paying school. Otherwise they should be winning or at the very least competing NC's they just recently upped their recruiting budget.
  5. I wouldn't mind seeing them bring in a QB coach.... Just because having two offensive line coaches worked so well for us in the past, doesn't mean it is something that we "must" do. I feel that Garrison could handle the responsibilities.... this ganz's last year? (cripes i cant remember if he is an intern or ga.) or did he get a full time gig already? he and stai were the 2 i could see getting a full time position if barney was to get a desk job.
  6. since we are discussing barney pushing pencils and playing solitaire on his computer all day, how many years does stai have left as a graduate assistant? or was he just an intern?
  7. It's obviously the best conference in the country, that's not debatable. And it's not like he's going after crappy teams like Kentucky. SC is a game away from a natty, and Bama has won 3 of the last 4. but he does have arkansas as his number 3.
  8. set the date schools can offer after they begin their senior year. that was easy. but that truly doesn't begin to solve anything. You're right, that solves nothing. NCAA can only set what the date is for "official" offers - which is currently the beginning of the player's junior year. Coaches can extended "unofficial" offers at any time. There's no way to regulate that. So your argument against my saying the HS coach is overly restrictive to his players is to give that coach even more power? And what about players who want to go to schools that their coach doesn't have a relationship with? And you expect schools to hold offers for guys just because? What if Stoltenberg's coach wouldn't let him visit NU until after the season? Could NU really hold a spot for him until Dec or Jan? That's a case where a player could miss out on a dream school because of that situation. It isn't all about the NFL or the education. It's about limiting a kid's opportunities. Would you be okay with my example of the math teacher that wouldn't let students take college visits? i didn't give a high school coach any more power. i stated a fact that college coaches and high school coaches have a personal relationship. and given this fact, college coaches probably know and respect a high school coach's wishes. it isn't limiting anyone's opportunities. the opportunities will be there if the opportunities are there to begin with. as far as the math teacher limiting when a student can visit colleges, i wont even entertain the ridiculous notion of it beyond the adults in any child's life needs to have his or her best interests in their actions, that includes every coach and/or teacher.
  9. set the date schools can offer after they begin their senior year. that was easy. but that truly doesn't begin to solve anything. given the relationships between college coaches and high school coaches still fairly certain they will save some spots. and they probably hold some back for late bloomers as well. or even players who were held back because there was someone as good or better ahead of them. is an FCS education worse than an FBS education? because if he is good enough to play in the NFL they will find him regardless the level he plays. sure you get a larger margin of error the higher up you go but if you are relying on that margin you most likely won't be in the NFL very long.
  10. this would violate our eighth amendment rights.
  11. if (1) is true then for the benefit of the student athlete shouldn't the process be slowed down so they can make well informed judgements? (2) pretty sure the vast majority of college coaches hold spots back for circumstances like this and for the can't miss prospects. still dont see how it is bad for the student. given the number of scholarships available at every level of competition, they are still receiving the opportunity to play football and have their education paid for.
  12. which one? Do you really have to be told? my bad. i didnt realize only one newby had potential. i thought bo's supposed plan to play younger more athletic players extended to the coverage units too. i know silly mistake on my part. i must also be thinking of some other team that has had underclassmen make themselves known on coverage units in the past.
  13. and they still have december and january to take visits.
  14. unless you only lived in hastings for a couple of years it is damn near impossible to not know many of the same people.
  15. no, NW can beat tOSU and Mich but lose to, wait for it, IOWA.
  16. No he wasn't. He was a wide receivers coach 3 years at KU and "Passing game coordinator" for one year at Kansas, which is akin to Barney Cotton's "Run game coordinator" here. Mark Mangino called the plays at KU. my bad. i meant that part as sarcasm and facetiousness. wanted to throw that out there before anyone tried to actually say he was an OC. even though they disregarded the fact when he became NU's OC.
  17. wtf Northwestern 2013 CFN Pred: 8-4 2013 Big Ten Pred: 4-4 8/31 at California W 9/7 Syracuse W 9/14 Western Michigan W 9/21 Maine W 9/28 OPEN DATE 10/5 Ohio State W 10/12 at Wisconsin L 10/19 Minnesota W 10/26 at Iowa L 11/2 at Nebraska L 11/9 OPEN DATE 11/16 Michigan W 11/23 Michigan State L 11/30 at Illinois W
  18. Tim Beck. I win. hold up, beck was an OC before became nebraska's OC. never mind the fact that it was used against him when he became OC. now, as to paps being qualified to be DC after just 8 short years. yes, he could have the smarts (whatever the hell you mean by that) and experience bo needed in 8 short years. he is getting on the job training basically because he has bo to fall back on. and iirc the game planning leading up to every game is a collaboration. but hey what do i know.
  19. to add on, the university is the largest employer in lincoln before you add in all the subcontractors they employ for various projects. and they always have something going on. as for the complainers moving to GI, dear lord who would want to do that? (i can knock GI cause i grew up in hastings) I'm from Hastings too. I go to GI only about once every 6 months, simply to get my new boots at Willis. You cross the tracks on Walnut to there, and it's like crossing over to a third world country. What a shithole. Yeah I'm not even going to try and argue with you guys, you have the right of it. But come on, we all know the only good thing that ever came from Hastings was Kool-Aid and ironically kool aid was actually invented on a farm somewhere south of hastings. they just moved there afterwards.
  20. LINK i borrowed that from the 50 best countdown thread. not having to replace any of the defensive coaches seems to be an overlooked component in the defense being stronger. with another year of experience with bo's defense the first year coaches we had last year should be able to teach the concept better and they have a better idea of the players' abilities .
