  1. They keep them in the Aumni center, you can check out the bell whenever you'd like. I don't think they ever put the chair in there though cause it's not officially recognized by the University.
  2. I mean I kinda get where he's coming from. After beating UCLA it really doesn't feel all that different from the end of the 10-4 seasons. No serious hardware but a little something to hang our hat on as we get excited for next year.
  3. I love this post so much, people are ignoring the fact that we just played the no. 4 team in the country and were basically a QB away from winning...and still only lost by 8. If we had done this against Michigan State and not Iowa people would be acting a lot more optimistically right now.
  4. I mean I like running QB's but we've also had our butts kicked several times this year by immobile QB's. Simply choosing not to run with the quaterback isn't an offensive flaw it's an offensive style that teams have had success with before(Alabama just won three national championships with a guy who couldn't run), when we hired Riley and an NFL position coach we knew that's what we were getting so it's not really a surprise. This is what these coaches do and they've had success at it in the past but just because we're recruiting pocket passers does not automatically mean our offense will be weaker. The potential benefit of going all in with the pro style offense with Tommy this year is that now everyone on the team has a year of experience running Riley's system. That's not just the quarterbacks but offensive line, receivers, running backs, fullbacks, everyone... even if Tommy is beat out next year this will make it much much easier for POB or whoever to step in and run an efficient offense right away. Remember how many Illegal procedures we had early in the season? and how they've basically gone away completely? That's something that we most likely will not have to deal with next year thanks to going through the growing pains now. It sucks that Tommy is not being utilized to his strengths but it's better for the team as a whole to not rework the entire playbook around him, cause then what happens when he leaves? We have to go through growing pains of learning a new system again to fit our new QB which just wastes another year.
  5. It's very amusing to me how aggressive people who say yes are being....It's a thread asking for peoples opinion, if you can't handle differing opinions then get off the internet.
  6. I actually gained a lot of respect for Eichorst after today. Not only him saying the contract extension was inappropriate but also how he stood on the sidelines next to the team and watched the entire game from there. He could have hid up in his press box like Peterson did every week but instead he stood there, showed his support, and took his boo's look a man.
  7. We've made offers in the past to top coordinators and coaches. Urban Meyer turned us down in 2003 while he was at Utah and then took the Florida job. His kids also went on social media laughing saying their dad will not be going to Lincoln back in 2007 and Mark Richt even laughed at the idea back then and AGAIN on a radio program after Bo was fired. There's been rumors we've made offers to: Houston Nutt, Bret Bielema, Mike Zimmer, Jim McElwain, Greg Schiano. And reportedly all turned the job down. The job is not as prestigious as you think BUT... out of all rumored candidates in the past, I do not think the athletic department made a lucrative offer to any of them. If we want quality, we gotta pay up. I'd much rather pay for a successful coach who intends to leave in 2-3 years rather than be stuck in the dumps with a bad coach for 4-5 years that is the world we live in now. Other programs have gotten lucky: LSU, Alabama, Michigan State, Stanford, Oklahoma. I agree to disagree with you. We can't just flash money at every coach. There are going to be a lot of jobs open at the end of the year. We have to be smart about the next hire I do agree we need to hire someone who is not only successful at coaching but is a solid recruiter as well and can surround himself with great associates and recruiters. That laughing isn't because Nebraska is a crap job, it's because coaches rarely make lateral moves unless they have an emotional connection to a particular school . Urban's kids also mocked people on twitter for thinking he was going to Ohio State in 2012 so they obviously don't know sh#t about what jobs a coach might find appealing. Schools get turned down by coaches all the time, is Texas a less prestigious job because Saban didn't want to go there? What about USC getting turned down by Mike Riley, does that mean Nebraska's a more prestigious job than USC? Les Miles turned down Michigan, does that mean Michigan is a less prestigious job than LSU? Of course not. When looking for a coach you have to consider "is the coach a good fit for the school?" and "is the school a good fit for the coach?" Meyer had no interest back in 04 because he recognized what a sh#t show the Athletic department was and frankly, he just probably didn't want to live in Nebraska, the comment that he turned us down because we fired a 9 win coach is bullsh#t. He took a job at Florida replacing a fired coach who had back to back 8-5 seasons and was fired midway through a 7-5 campaign that ended with them being ranked. Hell, Zook wasn't even getting blown out like Bo and Solich were. The expectations at Florida were no less than what he would have had at Nebraska. (I know that wasn't a part of your post but I see that get brought up all the time and it drives me crazy)
  8. I only miss it because even during our down years like this one we could still feel good about beating rival schools like KSU/Kansas/Mizzou/Oklahoma. Maybe it's just because I grew up in Kansas but football just isn't as fun without playing them every year, so if we're not competing for the conference I have little reason to get excited. That said Wisconsin is the best rival we've had since the 80's.
  9. The fact that Minnesota use to be a lesser opponent is completely irrelevant to what they are now. They were a team that lost to #4 TCU and their vaunted offense by only 6 points. Not saying TCU played their best game but how do you think we would have fared in that game week one or really any of the last couple years? Minnesota has a decent program now and really the entire landscape of college football has changed and you're just gonna have to get use to that. In fact this was one of the better wins we've had in the last three years and I'm not embarrassed to say that. This is Riley's first year and he, as well as the rest of the team, are still figuring some things out and this week looked like they may finally be on to something that could last beyond this one season. If this was Riley's third year and we were in this position then sure go ahead and rant, but come on man have a little fun it's football.
  10. Just because the Saints defense/kicker sucks doesn't mean it wasn't the right decision..
  11. Auburn hired Chisik after a horrible record at ISU didnt they? Then he won an NC. Was Malzhan a big hire? I dont remember on him They won that NC because of Malzhan and Cam Newton, which became painfully obvious as soon as both of them left.
  12. Does this include the fans that take to twitter and smack talk to these guys when they make a mistake on the field? Like DPE after the Minnesota game? For every one person attacting them on Twitter there's a hundred others defending them. If they're letting those few fans get in their heads then they need a coach who can teach them to toughen up and deal with it, especially the ones that want to go to the NFL....
  13. I don't understand why people keep linking Tressel and Frost. I would love to have frost apart of the program but the offense he's running at Oregon is different from anything Tressel has ever been apart of before. Tressel's known for having a tough defense and winning games conservatively, that's the exact opposite of Oregon. I feel he's much more likely to bring in someone with big 10 experience.
  14. I don't know how old you are but there was a considerable length of time when people were calling for Osborne to be replaced. He was the coach that could not win the big one! I remember Barry Switzer saying that most years Nebraska has the better team but the Sooners alsways seem to win. Osborne resorted to trick plays for a period- I think repsonding to pressure from the people were criticizing him. I remember many time being on my knees in front of the TV begging-pleadinig with him to throw the ball instead of running more option plays. There were times it looked like the defenders were putting 8-9 men up in the box and would flow in play direction- not caring if we threw the ball. I am disillusioned with the humiliating blow outs from time to time. I don't believe changing coaches every other year will improve our teams' performance. I think Bo can do it but he needs to do some soul searching and make the changes necessary. I think that is why Tom Osborne was eventually successful because he did make some necessary changes- not wholesale changes but enough to get improvement. Also, he had the benefit of some long term experienced successful assistants. Bo is lacking the experienced assistants in my opinion. The difference was Osborne was frequently ranked in the top 10 during that time and was beating good teams just not Oklahoma. He frequently was taking down ranked Missouri's, Colorado's, and Iowa States, even a number 4 Alabama in 1977 and of course number 1 Oklahoma in 1978. When Pelini was losing close conference championships and beating high ranked teams people weren't calling for his head, now 4 years later with his own players and coordinators he can't take on a team with half a pulse without getting blown out. There really is not comparison between the two other than the 9 wins a season which doesn't tell the whole picture.
  15. I don't really think he throws it deep that much more than other quarterbacks, we're just not use to it since Martinez would almost never throw it long.
  16. I am damn sure rooting for all B1G teams playing f'ing SEC teams. It's hard watching them go down one by one though.
  17. For once I'll actually defend paps. You can't blame this on the defense when your offense is so bad you're turning it over 3-5 times a game and giving away free field position.
  18. I've met some pretty ferocious dog poop in my day.
  19. The fact that we're spending this much time fighting over it means that Iowa is a rival.
  20. It's on December 28th. Everything you wanted to know about the BWW bowl...and more. And I'm sorry, but I don't buy Nebraska getting a Gater or Outback bowl appearance, especially considering our bowl history. That, and if Oklahoma is available to the BWW bowl, there's only one team to match with them to make the game a guaranteed must-watch bowl. Yes but doesn't the Gator and Outback bowl get to pick ahead of the BWW bowl? If that's the case then it doesn't matter how good of a matchup it would be
  21. I felt we really out coached Michigan last week which is the first time in a while I've thought that, but you can't rally as many times as we did last year and not give the coaches a lot of credit for it.
