  2. I don't care about a splash hire, but his recent production is pretty poor. I know the excuse is that Oregon State doesn't have the talent, but the reality is that they still get a bunch of three-star guys. Their classes aren't great but they haven't been terrible either. This year he took a whole defense basically full of three stars and finished 76th in total D and 95th in scoring D.
  3. This is disgusting. Who's gonna help me hunt down the scumbag that secretly recorded this private conversation and then shared the audio?
  4. Yeah, I don't think he's coming here to take a pay cut. His salary at Oregon state was 250k, that's less than most of our position coaches..... $505k http://www.oregonlive.com/pac-12/index.ssf/2014/09/oregon_oregon_state_assistant_coaching_salaries.html
  5. I know one guy who won't be returning to the panel.
  6. OC is the big mystery now. I really hope it's not underwhelming.
  7. Yeah, I don't think he's coming here to take a pay cut.
  8. I'm inclined to think Pap calling the defense will be a good thing. Not because he's a great play-caller, but because Bo was so stubborn and rigid in his approach that the guys were thinking too hard, scared to fail and not attacking. Pap has nothing to lose and will let them attack and have fun. We might get burned a couple times but we might see some talent and play-making come out of the woodwork too.
  9. Banker makes 505,000. If he comes here, I think it will be as DC. I don't see him taking a pay cut to be a position coach or recruiting coordinator.
  10. Doubt Perlman would be so forceful in denying the Bielema rumors if there was any truth to them. Why go out of your way to lie when you could just say "no comment"?
  11. I think there's a chance Banker comes with. Out of respect he would allow Banker to interview for the HC job at OSU, but if they don't go that direction, Banker may end up here. He's done a lot of good things when he's had some decent talent. DC: Banker OC: Frost? DL/RC: Orgeron? LB: Bray? DB: Warren OL: Cavanaugh RB: Ron Brown WR: Brennan STC: Read
  12. I don't know all the information he had at the time, or if he handled the situation appropriately. But his willingness to openly discuss the issue over a decade later shows an honesty level above 95% of the people in his business.
  13. riley: so you call all the plays on Saturday? paps: no. riley: oh... but you come up with the game plan? paps: uhh... no. riley: so what exactly do you do? paps: [holds up both hands showing taped fingers] riley: wha... what are you doing? what is that? paps: [runs out of the room]
  14. Eichorst was clear that we would be willing to spend whatever it took to get the best possible staff in place, yet we just hired a guy near the bottom of the Power 5 pay scale. Riley makes $1.5 million. It's probably safe to say he would be happy with $2.5 million, leaving huge funds available to hire assistants. This really makes me wonder what Eichorst had in mind, and how much (if at all) he discussed with Riley regarding the assistants. If Eichorst is planning the usual route--letting Riley hire whoever he wants, without giving input--then he could easily hire most of his Oregon State staff, and we wouldn't have to spend anywhere near what we paid the last staff. If this is the case, Eichorst's resources quote doesn't really make sense. So what's going on? Does Eichorst have a master plan regarding at least one of the assistant hires, or is he really just handing Riley a stack of cash and letting him figure it out in the next couple weeks? Riley's a good coach, but I don't know how great he is at hiring, and he will potentially be competing with Florida and Michigan. Apparently neither Frost nor Orgeron have even been contacted.
  15. Orgeron was keynote speaker at the Nebraska Coaches Clinic this last off-season, and apparently had nothing but praise for the program. He has also flat-out said in the last five hours that he would like to be a part of Riley's staff, so I assume they at least know each other. I don't think this is a pipe dream at all. I just hope Riley isn't overly loyal with his OSU assistants, thinking he should take them all along for loyalty alone. We need a great staff and we have the money to build it.
  16. I don't think Frost is unrealistic at all. His dream job is HC of Nebraska. Being the OC/AHC now would put him in perfect position to make that happen in 5-8 years. Plus we could easily offer 750,000 to him which would be a huge pay raise.

  19. Why isn't this being discussed more? Show me the flights that were used. Are you saying they are both in San Francisco still?
