  1. Ok first of all the reason our defense took a dive this year was on our secondary. If you cant trust the secondary to cover for more than two seconds then how do you blitz or do stunts or anything like that. Basically bc Cos knew that he couldnt do that the majority of the time he pretty much just had to say ok big boys go rush the passer as fast as you can. Even then it wasnt good enough because there was always someone open. As far as our offense you will see and I will take my hits if I am wrong (which i wont be) Nebraska will have an outstanding offense next year. Everyone returning and a potential heisman candidate at Quarterback with a MUCH improved line and receivers. Could next year get out of hand? You bet your ars it could, i dont think it will though. Aside from Wake Forest, Missou, and Texas I think all of our tough games are at home, which helps a lot. I am not saying USC will be a cake walk but they are beatable. Its not like we just shouldnt show up for the game bc we dont have a chance. I also doubt Jarret will come back. Two regular season losses, win the Big 12 championship and win the fiesta bowl, you heard it here first.
  2. They would have them on huskerpedia.com at the botton of the page, or huskersillustrated.com, just click on the game and it will give you all the stats needed.
  3. I definately dont think we concentrated to much on pass blocking because the running game has been the emphasis the whole year. I have wondered the same thing however. If I had to pick a reason I would have to say that some of our linemen our too big. I dont think its the schemes, but Slauson is 330 and nicks is too. I am just basing this off the Broncos line. They average like 290 and they are all fast, strong and quick. Which makes sense for a zone blocking scheme if they are going to have to be quick enough to seal the defender. I am not really sure I guess, that would be my opinion though.
  4. This doesnt surprise me in the least. He was kinda gettin jerked around and with all the new DBs coming in he knew he wouldnt play. Then with all the new WRs coming in he knew he wouldnt play there either. Kinda sad, i think he could have made a contribution somewhere sooner or later.
  5. Well I never said that he should have taken himself out. I said that THE COACHES should have flipped the play because yes shanle is the worst defensive back nebraska has EVER, EVER, EVER had. He cant cover, he cant tackle, and when he does try to tackle someone it looks like he is trying to molest them. I agree, it looks like he is in there because he is a senior. You cant tell me that Culbert didnt look good in the missouri game, or thenarse didnt look good when he got his chances in games this year. It is just a matter of picking up the defense and it seems they couldnt pick it up quick enough. With that being said the backup at Shanles spot seems to be Bryan Wilson who i know very little about to be honest. Shanle directly gave up touchdowns against maybe five or six teams this year by not tackling and letting the guy run 50 yards not breaking on the ball (okie st.) or just blowing an assignment (oklahoma). YES SHANLE IS THE WORST DB NEBRASKA HAS EVER, EVER, EVER HAD. So yes I put this one on the coaches, or maybe thay just didnt have anyone to play his position including knowing the defense. Maybe I should say that he is the least athletic, woman like db nebraska has ever had.
  6. NU fan in Denver frankly some of the people on here need to be berated or whatever you said. It honestly sounds like some of you know nothing about football, and the reason this thread is going on so long is because for ANYONE to even bring this topic up is just simply stupid.
  7. This is exactly what I have been saying. Callahan will not get fired if he keeps winning 9 and 10 games against the competition he is playing. If there are signs that we are getting better and getting great talent then he wont get fired. Its not just a matter of ooo your not winning the national championship youre fired. That wasnt the case with Solich and thats not the case here. Im telling you Callahan is here to stay if he keeps bringing in great talent and wins 9 or 10 games.
  8. I also saw the same thing, and weiss is 0-5 since starting at ND. I thought this was completely hilarious. A good number of people on here are calling for Callahans head for losing against top ten teams by a little bit. Then Weiss is 0-5 yet people still think he is the greatest coach ever. Yes he accomplished a lot at the pro level, yet didnt callahan? On top of that Weiss is doing all this with 75% more talent on his roster than Callahan has. Man Callahan sure sucks.
  9. You forgot Murillo, or you just dont think he will be in the top three. Steinkuler i dont think will start, and you left out Dillard as well. I personally think the three linebackers will be Octavian, Mceon, and Dillard. They just cant keep him off the field like they would if he was rotating at middle linebacker. I also think Mcneil will start and if we get Amie he will be heavily in the rotation as well, which will then be clear as day what our passing attack has been missing.
  10. I am just baffled when people say he needs to give up the play calling. BILL CALLAHAN IS AN OFFENSIVE GENIOUS!!!! He was the OC on a Super Bowl team and the number one offense in the leauge. Once again i know its different but give him some freakin time to adapt!! NOBODY ON HERE KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE GAME, WHAT DEFENSE IS BEING RUN, OR HOW TO COUNTER ANY DEFENSE THAT IS THROWN AT HIM, HE DOES!!!! I totally without a question trust his judgement when it comes to playcalling. With that said he has had some bad calls and will continue to have SOME bad calls. Overall he is what we need. As for that killer instinct i think that is just our overall attitude as well. I think it is more on defense. Rudd and Shanle look like theyre reaching to grab flags to tackle them. As far as our Linebackers and DBs the only people that show any hitting ability are Brandenburgh, Jones, and occasionally Bradley, I also think Octavian could lay someone out if given the opportunity. Next year however with Bowman back, Murillo, Jones coming back, and our prize head hunter of them all, Asante, along with Culbert and Thenarse we will have a whole new mentality and swagger to our team.
  11. I agree with Callahan needing to keep the same players in the game to make it look like we were punting it, but for the love of god couldnt they have switched sides and let the flyer on the other side of the field handle the fake? Shanle in my opinion is the worst defensive back nebraska has EVER, EVER, EVER had. He cant hit and was probably so scared he was going to get hit he just choked. He reminds me of that play on little giants where the kid was just running around saying "blow the whistle, blow the whistle".
  12. First of all referring to the post made clear at the top about letting someone else call the plays and that Carrol does it.....Carrol does it because he is a defensive minded head coach....thats what he is known for....Callahan is known for being an offensive genious.....he might need a little time to get more adjusted t the college game but once again that will come with time....as far as Solich being an excuse it would be the same thing as telling a team like Grambling, hey go compete with the best in the nation, having less quality players doesnt matter you should win anyway. That post makes NO sense. A good 75-80% of our team was the worst talent Nebraska has probably ever seen. Do you expect a genie to appear with Callahan and magically give us All-Americans at every position?
  13. Hey huskerfaninokieland or whatever your name is.....i would love for you to read the post the guy from texas said about mack brown. Once again Brown did that with the number one recruiting class like five years in a row. Callahan has had TWO full classes and his third season overall, RELAX, learn some more things about football, then give your opinion.
  14. Well here is my two cents.....I was watching a game on ESPN and a very well respected coach did the same exact thing...i cant remember who it was but he was a good coach and it was in a big game. The play worked and herbstreit and company praised him and talked about how gutsy it was and he is really playing to win. The same thing about Callahan....who expects that call? Certainly not the Auburn coaches....evident by the running room had our all-american shanle caught the ball. Should he have punted the ball? Yes he should have. Should he have had two people used to handling the ball do the fake? Yes he should have. The fact is that he didnt punt the ball and if that play is executed BY THE PLAYERS then everyone bashing him now is praising him. That call, if executed could have totally change the game, the momentum and certainly the outcome. But keep bashing him all of you experts.
  15. Thank god I am starting to read some of the posts that I have recently read. I was beginning to think that Nebraska football fans knew as much about football as Rosie O'Donell knows about.......I wont say it. But really when people say that Callahan should be fired it makes ZERO sense, and more than likely it was the people pulling for solich to stay with the same records and horrible recruiting.......makes noooo sense. Or even the fact that Cos should be fired. Now I will admit I thought he coached some pretty bad games. However I dont know what he is seeing. He had a great defense last year, and after one bad year everyone is ready to just get rid of him.......patience!!
  16. Well mack brown seemed to win the fiesta bowl two years ago and the red river shoot out this year. it just goes to show that just bc you have great talent it doesnt mean that you are going to automatically win the national championship. Are we starting to get very good talent and the type of players Callahan wants?? Yes, but that doesnt automatically mean that we are going to be in the national championship game. I think if we lose two regular season games and lose the Big 12 championship and win our bowl game that will be a good season. Its not the season i want or think will happen, but Callahan will for sure not get fired for that.
  17. Well that makes more sense than to fire Callahan, however I would say wait another year or maybe two so we can see how they do with some real talent. Next year and the year after we will have Asante, Culbert, Thenarse, David Ross, Washington, Sullivan, Blue and maybe some others, as far as the secondary goes. They are all much more talented than what we have now. Lets see what they can do when they are allowed to open it up.
  18. Well I guess it makes sense for him to have to win at least 10 games or a national championship AS SOON as he gets his own recruits in here. I know its that easy, Billy has his own recruits we should just be given the national championship. How long did it take Mack Brown to win a national title with the best recruiting classes in the nation?? He should have been fired!!!!
  19. I dont know what all this talk is about. I know its different but he wasnt he the OC for the Raiders when they had the number one offense in the league? Im pretty sure he was calling the plays for them. IT HAS ONLY BEEN THREE YEARS!!!!! HE IS PROGRESSING, GIVE HIM SOME FREAKIN TIME!!! I am sure glad everybody on here knows what is going on down on the field, what defenses were being run, and how to counter them. He is an offensive genious and he knows what he is doing, none of you guys do. I cant even believe I am reading this discussion. Everybody was saying, OOO it took Osborne a long time to win a championship give Solich more time. That was after what five years with NO TALENT BEING RECRUITED!!! Now after three years people are saying fire Callahan after three years after we went to the cotton bowl and are obviously making strides. Anyone who thinks that would be best for the program, I am sorry we love the same team.
  20. I LOVE the post that said that just shows how good this coaching staff really is. Has he made some bad calls ? No doubt about it. However this offense is a very, very good offense. Bill Callahan is a freakin genious who sometimes forgets he is not in the NFL. That will come with time and more experience in the college game. I love Bill Callahan and I absolutley believe he is the coach that will lead us back to the national championship. So those of you who want him out or think he will get fired, sit back and enjoy the ride because he is here to stay!!
  21. I literally laughed out loud when I read how Bill Callahan will be out if he doesnt have 10 wins. I hope that was a joke!!! With maybe the toughest schedule in the nation I doubt he will be fired if we win 9 games. Solich was fired for it because he had NO talent coming in and NO sign of getting it. Callahan is stockpiling his teams and anyone can see that.
  22. I actually think that is very close and while i tend to think that we will win every game every year, I am also pretty realistic. I think that if we go 11-1 the one loss wont be to USC. It is in Lincoln and they do lose quite a bit of people, but when you have All-Americans (high school) backing up all-americans i dont know how big the drop off at any position will be. We havent won at texas since i can remember. The Wake Forest game will be a tough one, they looked damn good tonight. Texas A&M game will also be a tough one with pretty much all their skill players coming back. However I think they have the potential to win every game, its just a matter of getting the job done.
  23. Those are pretty much my thoughts as well. I just cant believe this is even a topic. We went to the freakin cotton bowl and played good enough to win against a top ten team. We played against four top ten teams this year and very well could have beaten three of them. Did we? No, and I believe that is the difference between this year and next year. Next year I believe we will have the experience in the big games to pull them off and not just get play well. Now comparing Frank Solich and Bill Callahan is pretty dumb as well. The difference is Bill Callahan is winning 9 games and recruiting fantastic talent. Frank Solich won 9 games with nothing in sight except Nebraska kids coming in. Nothing against Nebraska high school football, but you cant win a national championship with just Nebraska recruits these days. Another thing, Frank Solich won 9 and 10 games with the luxury of taking over a dynasty. Bill Callahan is winning 9 games building his team from the ground up. I would love to see where we would be with Joe Dailey, David Horne, Isaiah Fluellen and Mark Leflore. Good Job Frank, I wish you were back here!!!
