  1. Can we win some games during the football season this year? Are the coaches and players, on a day to day level affected by this? Will our players not lift enough weights, or the coaches not go thru enough film to win some games? Will players transfer or will we lose recruits because of our AD loss? Will the volleyball team not compete as hard? Will the basketball team turn in their jerseys? Will our 1 hitter strike out because of this news? Will he not steal a base? Will our 2nd team women’s striker on the soccer team not run as hard? We gotta think, as a collective group, that the day to day of coaches and players will go on as necessary to compete in games and practices. The players play and the coaches coach. Who the AD is and why it matters doesn’t even inch into the players and coaches competing right now. At all. it will affect how things are “run” and the ability to “get better” over the long haul, for sure. But does anyone think the kids who compete give 2 f’s overall? nah, this doesn’t matter overall, in the short term. This move hurts us as fans, and we understand that there are systemic problems, needs that should be addressed, that we can get worse or better real fast in the Admin phase of things…. But damn. We need to slow our role on the overall affect of this news. Sun comes up tomorrow.
  2. I’d like to poll 25 coaches in the power 5, anonymously, and get their take on how these rule changes affect them generally. And specifically how the ever-changing rules are hard or easy to keep up with. It seems every couple or few months there are major changes to recruiting, portal, signing, NIL, etc that they have to try and be compliant with. that would be an interesting article a real journalist should tackle. edit: 20 power 5 and 5 non power 5 coaches. The non power 5 coaches are probably even more stuck
  3. so far so fine…I don’t even want to pay attention to it until 2030. I’ll be 53 by then. back story….got into a heated argument on the way to the Mich v N game when Robinson was their QB. So quite a while ago. We won that game when Robinson got hurt. I think Pelini was the coach. my dad and brother were on the side of paying players, playoffs, “who cares bowl games” etc… got 3 more sentences from physical. Stopped for gas in York from Denver and we all cooled off. I maintained college football specifically would never be the same…errrrr ummmm now they kinda are like…all the NIL, playoff stuff, 4-8-12,, playoff stuff progression. They see it now. you know what, doesn’t even matter. The 120 yrs of college pageantry is gone and the regional rivalries has been gone and the idea of conferences is gone and the important bowl games are gone. Everything that kinda sorta mattered is gone. it’s new and it’s exciting and it’ll move on. But the tradition is gone. And that stings to me. whatever comes next just won’t have the same feeling to me. Win or lose. Success or failure. The feeling of doing of we do and the way way we do it is gone. I hope we win a lot and get to bowls and compete. Hit it just doesn’t feel the same if we don’t beat OU and CU and Iowa,-‘and KState and Wisc. Instead we gotta beat USC and Oregon and and Washington. Just weird and sad
  4. Well, it also got the “best teams playing the other best teams” from different parts of the country that ran different offenses with different schemes and players. The way it is now the game is so homogenous and players move around the country so much the games matter less because they all look the same. okus there are 25+ bowl games so it’s not the “best teams”. It is exhibition now, but used to not be.
  5. I go watch Cherry Creek 3-4 games a year and I love how the game is just played. No one standing around, not a lot of breaks, games are the same clock time but way less in actual time. What would be really groundbreaking is to have QR codes on screens for ads, 4 minutes extra btwn quarters, 5 min extra halftimes for commercials. Then you have the obvious injury and called timeouts. that’s plenty of time to run commercials during the game and real game breaks.
  6. granted, outside the top 5 winners of their conference, the other teams will be decided by some people somewhere. But at least we are getting closer to what looks like the “most deserving teams”
  7. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39520319/college-football-playoff-board-managers-expected-vote-5-plus-7-format looks like we might be moving further away from any NCAA, AP journo’s, computer, coaches, and other BS that determines who gets a shot a NC. the power has further consolidated. Save for the 2 team PAC12 lol
  8. Offensive coordinator
  9. Got in random internet hole and found this… I guess we aren’t the only crazy ones. not a lot of lost for Raiola switching to us. the whole was insane lol. makes us look kinda sane, all things considered.
  10. What if Rex Burkhead catches an isolation pass on the edge in 2009 against texass instead of flat out dropping it for a sure TD? the sequence of events surrounding that game and thereafter is undersold in mid-2000s. if he catches that pass and scores, which he absolutely should have, things may have been different for several seasons
  11. We cannot erase up a completely historic run of 9 win seasons (when only 11games played), 35+ consecutive bowl games, ranked in top 25 consecutive weeks, top 25/10/5 rankings for records of that achievement, dozens of conference championships, playing for major bowl wins (when there were only 5 major bowls) for 30+ yrs, winning 5 natty’s and legitimately playing for 8 over a 40 yr span. even from 01-14 we were super competitive. in my mind only since 2015 were we kinda dog crap. Lost way too much and weren’t really competitive. But even then, we are something like 6-27 in one loss games. Win just 10 of those one score games to be .500 in close games and we would be on a “radar”. we’ve had a bad 7-9 yr run but not total dogs#!t either, up until the last 6-7 yrs over a 60 yr span. So in 60 yrs we’ve been legitimately bad for less than 10 yrs. That’s f’in awesome. And we are trending up, no mater what the pessimistic say. I have a good 30yrs of watching N football left in me, and I’d bet we finish my last 30 like I watched the first 30
  12. Rhule has added some good stuff. While not totally nixing what he started. we should be happy w that. we can get better w what he has added. That’s the goal, and always should be; players, coaches, NIL, portal, etc…he’s trying make things better and we should just simply applaud that instead of over dissecting things.
  13. A lot of times just having a title is directly related to salary. so Satt doesn’t take a pay cut but the new guy gets paid too.
  14. A little off topic but damn, I really really wish Frost would’ve worked out here. He was so young when hired and coulda had a 30yr run, thru ups and downs. alas, things are as they are. I’m really glad we have Rhule now and with this dynamic coaching shift, conf realignment, retirements/carousel plus the portal and NIL…I think we got our guy at the exact right time: Old enough to know better and young enough to build and maintain. I see some good things happening here for Dear old Nebraska U
  15. So I’ve been reading thru several threads over the last couple months. Along with recruiting updates from several sources and national pundits. Most of the things I’ve been reading from fan reactions are that we needed: WR 1-2 most likely at least one OL a LB a solid RB maybe a DB or a sold “game changer” at edge. And obv a QB transfer or solid frosh recruit. Seems like that was the theme over and over. 4 positions for sure, get one or two more half critical positions filled via portal. So…did we do that? Y’all happy with how things have shaped up? Seems like we literally got our wish list of needs met. How they perform and grow with 1-3 yrs of eligibility remains the question; but it seems like the Staff fulfilled what most of us thought were the biggest needs. QB room might be better w one true veteran. I would like to add that it seems like we didn’t lose critical players to the portal or at least any big surprises that might let us down if they had stayed instead of transferring (Last yr Hausman comes to mind). I know spring will bring more movement, but as of now, I feel very happy that not many dudes left and it seems on paper at least that we addressed the positions of need. Thoughts?
  16. From the day I was borned until N won a national championship was 18yrs. they won 2 more in quick succession. it’s been another 22 yrs since then. I have left on this earth, if I’m lucky, another 30yrs. I think in 30 yrs we can win 1 national championship. but if they don’t, I will die having witnessed 3 Natty wins and played for like 6 or 7 total, otherwise in my life. So I think if we win a few B1G championships in the next 30 yrs and get to a Natty game or possibly 2, I’d die a happy Nebraska fan.
  17. I’m hoping he can do his interviews, move on campus, get acclimated, meet the other freshman, be humble, work harder than any other player, be the guy that others talk about instead of talking about himself, grind and get ready for a tough season. Stars don’t mean s#!t anymore. He signed w us and he’s coming here. He’s a gamer and will make us better but he’s a freshman and college ball has no mercy. I love his swag/confidence demeanor and overall approach to getting to N. Now he has to work. And has work to do. He will have a target the size of Memorial on his back. From the opposition and from N fans in general. He will be a difference maker for us. Love the knpineapple quote above. Get us to 6 and the rest is gravy. Then we will see in yr 2-3 how far we can go w him as a true General of a State and football program nearly dying for some success.
  18. Another older player deciding to return, gives the younger guys time to develop. Been missing this for years, perfectly set up for season 2 of Rhule great progress and leads into years 3-4-5. this is what we need
  19. We’ve been needing this for a decade. Guys who could maybe go pro or retire, end up coming back. We haven’t been able to ‘Reload” for a long time. Now we have guys returning so that in one more year or two, we can reload when the older better players leave. Maybe win some games that 2nd and 3rd string guys can get playing time in-game. This excites me more long term than a squeeze hopeful from the portal.
  20. Personally, I’m very slow rolling all this news. the only player we could MAYBE get went 11-1 last year. The guy we think is savior that we MAYBE could get has never taken a college snap. I’m on a a wait and see approach with both players: whether either comes here and what they could do once here. it’s fun, but I’m not counting chickens and whatnot
  21. Suh was the last time this much buzz. 2nd place was Frost coming home 3rd place was the last 5 weeks of Bo, which was bad buzz
  22. Players should get a stipend each year for living and spending. Concurrently a savings account which accumulates funds which are released upon graduation or turning pro or career ending injury. each consecutive year at a school the stipend goes up and the savings account gets bigger until they graduate, turn pro or retire.
