  1. The Ivan Maisel thread saying how more and more he likes Nebraska going to the B1G and how harmonious the marriage will likely be got me thinking about our contentious history with the Big XII conference and how little the conference has done for Nebraska. Perhaps I'm not being subjective, but I'm really struggling to find examples of benefits the Big XII actually provided to or acquiesced to Nebraska that DoNU didn't already have...so other than the marginal improvements to television exposure (and even those are debatable with the advent of Fox Sports PPV games...), what did the Big XII actually do for Nebraska?
  2. I actually agree with Maisel for the first time in a while. There has to be a give and take--we haven't known such a relationship with a conference since the Big 8 days, and we're already having a positive influence on the Big 10 (and vice versa). Nebraska isn't going to get everything they want (see 2011, 2012 schedule), nor should they. But the B1G embracing change like Thursday and Friday games (something Nebraska is willing to play) and sitting down with ESPN/ABC to renegotiate parts of the TV contract is good for the conference. Then again, Fox Broadcasting (Not Fox Cable Sports) getting the Big 10 Title game is perhaps the wakeup call that ABC/ESPN needs to realize they need to end their pro-SEC/Texas whoring ways, lest they lose the Pac-12 and Big 10 TV contracts up in a couple of years. What's funny is that all of the Big XII asshat smacktalk from last June that told us we'd be substituting one dictator (Texas) for another (Ohio State) are already being proven wrong. The conference is run by Delany, take it or leave it. Delany looks out for his schools, for better or worse, and while Delany is not perfect (Leaders and Legends, anyone?), he's had many more successes.
  3. This is Missouri. They were part of the Confederacy, as was Oklahoma...which pretty much explains a lot. Quiet, you Phbttttttttttttttt.

  5. That reminded me of another asinine comment Deion made--that there's no film of Deion being burned as bad as Prince was during the Okie Lite game. Then again, remember that Deion is peddling to the 'Whorn masses down here, and many of the Dallas fans aren't keen on Prince in the first place since Prince played at Nebraska and our name is 'verboten' to those fans who also share a loyalty to the Cowboys. This all took place during the Bob and Dan show on 1310 The Ticket this past Tuesday, IIRC.
  6. I'm reminded of the Cardinal Mooney coach that Stoops/Pelini had that would keep them out on the practice field until 8 or 9 at night some times to run a single sweep or toss play over and over again until it was perfect. Quality > Quantity
  7. Prince Amukamara's draft diary, Part 3 Well, that's a relief! Apparently the NFL didn't adopt the don't ask, don't tell policy. Frankly, I only care that he prevents balls from being received. Whether or not he wants to juggle balls on the side is his own business IMO. And it appears Dallas is souring on him. Heard Deion Sanders do nothing but talk smack about Price on 1310 The Ticket the other day--says the Oklahoma State game is all the evidence Dallas (or anyone else) needs to know that he isn't a 1st round pick.
  8. I think there will be plenty of passion for those that work in Omaha! Let Farmaggedon begin. I think I speak for all of us when I say... Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!!!
  9. Frankly, I'm willing to give them slack since a)it was below 20°F, b ) we faced two of the top 10 (and maybe five) pitchers in NCAA baseball, c) Erstad is on the case, and d) the team is young. However, we should see something come alive by the time Big XII play is here. If not, I fear our recent success will be fleeting and meaningless, not unlike the Men's Basketball wins over the Missouri Tigerwhorns™, A&M Aggiewhorns™, and Texas Longwhorn...er...um...whorns™.
  10. Nebraska getting some love in the College Baseball blogosphere: College Baseball Today While the bulk of the article is about OU's series win over Cal, it appears from what was written that the Nebraska series win is of more substance, as UCLA didn't give us (IIRC) four errors during the entire series, let alone four errors in one game as Cal did for the OU Soonerswhorns™. Go for the article, stay for the butthurt which is the Baylor Bearwhorns™ and the A&M Aggiewhorns™ losing key matchups this weekend, as well as the Schadenfreude that is Arkansas and Arizona State off to below par starts.
  11. This thread is useless w/o pics. And according to this board here, she had surgery on her elbow and is out for the season.
  12. Look you two, offseason just began, and we're already getting into message board scrapes. Let me leave it at this: while ESPN Classic may show the occasional NU win, they sure do show a f*** ton of losses for one of the top five programs in college football history with the most wins. Don't you think there's something wrong with that?
  13. I think you were missing this from your post, right? And I'd like to apologize to everyone for all the sunshine I pumped. I honestly thought Doc would had learned and applied accordingly. Seems Doc was content to get a contract extension with his Texas win until new facilities are in place (and no more excuses can be made). And looking from what the B1G has offered this year in Basketball, it appears we'll be in the rear quarter of the conference beginning next season as well. Very disappointing.
  14. Myth. ESPN replayed K-state, the first Washington game and Oklahoma State off the top of my head. People said the same thing last year. It was a myth then too. Uh, it's not a myth. What you're talking about is current season replays (they were replayed on ESPNU within 48hrs). That's quite different from the "classics" that are show on ESPN classic during the offseason. Unless, of course, you want to argue that the 2008 Oklahoma game is a "classic" win... I concur with Saunders. There are a multitude of classic wins out there (e.g. Nebraska vs. LSU for the 1970 NC, '97 vs. Missouri), but other than the 1971 GotC, very few (if any) classic wins are shown on ESPN Classic. How many times have we seen the '83 Miami game, the '93 Florida State game, or '01 Miami game pop up on ESPN Classic's "general" rotation, but no '94, '95, or '97 NC games unless they're doing some sort of specialized block? Frankly, July 1 can't get here soon enough, and I have faith that the Big 10 Network will do more right by Nebraska fans in their first year than the whole of our Big XII existence. Other "classics" include the 2005 OU game (Loss, both teams unranked), the 2007 & 2006 Texas Games (both lost in the closing minutes), 2008 OU game (blowout loss), 2002 Penn State (blowout loss), 2002 Ole Miss (bowl loss), 1986 OU (loss).... The only two wins I can think of are the occasional 1994 Miami OB for the MNC, and the 2005 Michigan Game. Well, and the '05 Michigan game is shown more for the debacle with officiating at the end, and not for the game itself, per se. As an aside, I think Michigan and Nebraska should set up mock traveling AP and Coaches Poll trophies from 1997, and the winner of the Michigan/Nebraska tilt that year gets to "claim" the 1997 NC until the next time they play. Poke fun at history with an eye toward the future, or some such BS to make it happen.

  16. Those girls would be a lot hotter if they were in Nebraska colors and not Tennessee colors. Fixed for accuracy.
  17. Knew about the site, but forgot about it until the OP reminded me. So thanks OP! As for bowling, didn't they just play for a NC last year? I remember watching the finals on ESPN for some reason--many of those girls were easy on the eyes.
  18. IIRC, the Big 10 Network was wanting to run Nebraska content sooner than July 1. Delany himself said something about the Big 10 Network running Nebraska content 'soon' when was in Lincoln last summer celebrating our decision to join the B1G. The point is, I don't think Delany envisioned waiting until July 1, 2011 when he made that statement. Something tells me a butthurt Beebe got in the way of the B1G airing any content before our transition date. However, I'm not 100% sure how our particular media rights work. Aren't they currently shared with the individual schools we play and those two schools can do with them as they please (within reason)? And if so, that would imply that we (and the B1G) are being gracious to the Big XII in not airing content on the B1G already? On a side note, I do hope there is film/recording of the Bobfather's win against Michigan oh so long ago that the B1G could unearth and run. That, from what I understand (since it's before my time) was a pivotal game and point in Nebraska football history.
  19. Not THAT tough of a job. It's not like we were setting the world on fire the second half of the season. If anything, we just need an offense next year that won't make mistakes and lose the game for us--kind of like the Baltimore Ravens and their offense during their Super Bowl run. That's something well within Beck's grasp his first year on the job. I agree that a caveman could draw up a scoring offense, im saying he has a tough job in the schematics, but more or less pleasing Husker fans, people say a small improvement would enlighten them, but I am not so sure thats true. Ahh, I see and agree. First time our offense mismanages us out of a game will set the board on fire and bring out the guillotine.

  21. Two things here-- One, we're the "second four outsiders" according to an ESPN twit that can't operate a fraking touchscreen device on camera. These folks have been wrong just as much as they've been right. Two, look at Baylor's schedule and ours. Who is more likely to finish ahead of whom? Baylor: Feb 26 vs #17 TA&M Mar 1 @ OKST Mar 5 vs #5 TEX Nebraska: Feb 26 @ ISU Mar 1 vs #21 MIZZ Mar 5 @ COLO Considering Baylor lost to Mizzou, they're at 6-7, just as we are. Realistically, we're looking at 8-8 and possibly 9-7; Baylor is realistically looking at 7-9 and possibly 8-8. This doesn't mean I'm not worried (I am), but I don't think the situation is nearly as dire as you make it seem...yet.
  22. Three things--one, free-throw problems and turnovers are practice issues. One of the reoccurring criticisms of Doc Saddler's tenure has been inconsistency. Considering these two problems are practice-related, something tells me that Doc let off the gas a bit after the Texas game. Time to put the pedal to the metal. Two, we're not out of any tourney discussion. 3-1 gets us to the dance--unfortunately, we used up our 'one', so this team must play lights out against an arguably better Mizzou team and on the road at Ames and Boulder--two of the more soulless places (when ISU is losing, at any rate) you'll find in this iteration of the Big XII. Three, the officiating sucked yet again. Problem is, they sucked equally for both sides, so I don't think we can include the zebras in this one. --- Considering Doc's history, I don't think he has been consistent enough to pull this off. Even if you are of the opinion that a single Big XII Tourney game win will help, that's asking for four in a row. Against our non-con schedule, that was plausible. Against one (and possibly two, depending on seeding) Top 25 teams, this team may have bitten off more than they can chew. Having said all this, I do plan on watching and cheering Nebraska on. Just because we have a Herculean task in front of us, it doesn't mean we can't do it, and that we shouldn't cheer them on in their attempts.
  23. I'll forgive the T. Tech game--it was on the road and Tech has snakebit better teams. Baylor...there's no excuse for that one. I still think 3-1 gets us in. That would put us 4th/t-5th in the conference, depending on who the loss is. I wouldn't think Beebe would make his bias so blatant that he would kill our chances, as it would kill anyone (e.g. Missouri, K-State) behind us as well. Then again, Austin is still pretty pissed about their loss to us. Bet Beebe's knees and neck were pretty sore after meeting with Dodds Sunday.
  24. Facebook pictures are a lot better than what was on TV. Someone really needs to put more of those up than the TV cheerleader pics to cleanse the palette. That, or the hot OU Baton Twirler that the ShaggyTards used. Not too shabby...
  25. Good find. Thanks for the article.
