  1. I think Eichorst went and got a coach he wouldn't have to hold hands with, and that's going to change the whole dynamic. Bo's bitching and complaining about admin not being available is one of the more pathetic (but certainly not the most pathetic) aspect of his guns-a-blazing farewell speech. What is it exactly that he wants the AD to do for him? Money? Check. Top shelf facilities? Check. Full authority to dismiss and hire assistant coaches? Check. Overlook unprofessional behavior that would get almost anyone else in another profession fired? Check. Massive recruiting budget and annual upgrades to the operation? Check. The only consistent thing about Pelini is that he consistently rationalized his own failures while espousing a hollow philosophy of accountability, high standards, and individual responsibility.
  2. I am rooting for someone in the bowl game. Barney Cotton. I hope the dude has his day in the sun.

Good one GSG. I'm not rooting against Barney, but I just don't think he's that great of a coach. Seen a lot of what teams he has been a part of do and hasn't been all that good.

  3. If Eichorst is a Moneyball guy, I doubt Mike Riley's personality was the #1 thing on his mind. It's a nice thing to have, though, when you're trying to lift a noxious culture like the one enshrouding Lincoln at the moment. I agree with the second bolded part. I do not care––at all––that it's common practice to keep old faithfuls around; the question is will it work at Nebraska, right now, today? Thing about Banker is he's qualified. Riley was given this job and a part of it is to make these decisions.
  4. The slowest horse finishes the race. And I'm glad the tape was released. As a fan, I need to know this kind of thing.
  5. Tressel, Frost, McElwain, Ditka and Lombardi would have done it in 4.2 days. This guy is awful.
  6. How the Bussey situation unfolds should give an indication about the future of the offense.

Nah, it would just confirm that our coaches suck. Per all the internet geniuses on this board.

It looks like they are still interested according to their Mom: Twin 2015 DL commits Carlos and Khalil Davis have not yet decommitted from Nebraska: http://bit.ly/1uimrx7

  7. DING DING DING...we have a winner. There are folks so anti-Bo that when a potentially s****y hire is staring them in the face, they choose not to see it. I was willing to give the Riley hire a chance, provided the right coordinators and staff showed up under him--again, our AD said money wasn't a concern. But when Riley is bringing his defensive buddies from OSU with him...the same ones that choked against Eastern Washington, NOT Wisky, and the same ones the OSU fans wanted run out on a rail for incompetence...it's becoming clear this is quickly becoming a s****y hire and the mistake to end all mistakes with this progam. Yes, I am more excited about anyone's first year than I would be for a Bo Pelini eighth. And that would hold if the entire OSU staff came to Lincoln and brought their entire recruiting class with them. Bo Pelini was judged on his performace as the Nebraska Coach. Riley is being judged on speculation, since he's only been the HC here for two days. The two things are totally different. Also, before you Bo Pelini supporters get too critical of Riley's staff, let's remember who was on Bo's staff: His brother A golf coach An intern Another intern You may not like Riley bringing coaches from OSU, but at least they are experienced coaches. +1 You can add a couple bullet points. First-time offensive coordinator, first-time defensive coordinator. Whatever people want to make of Riley's staff choices, they cannot say––at least at this point––that he is hiring under-qualified candidates. These people have years of experience doing the things they'll be doing here. They'll be inheriting enough talent to challenge for the B1G West. Eichorst hired a guy who he firmly believes knows how to run an organization. I want to see what the final roster looks like, and hear more on what Riley intends to implement offensively and defensively.
  8. I know it's Silly Season on Huskerboard, but this is one of the most nonsensical things I've read. In every aspect.
  9. I don't understand a lot of the consternation in this thread. OF COURSE Riley is going to bring in at least a few of his assistants. So far I counted four, and all but one of them are only rumored. If I remember right, NCAA rules allow 9 assistant coaches in addition to Riley. How is bringing four of your guys and going outside for the rest "bringing his entire staff"? Looks to me like he's bringing half his staff––at most.
  10. I think it's more about fit and managing benefits and deficits than finding the "best" coach. Could a coach that's used to spending all of his time recruiting in fertile SEC territory really be a guaranteed success at a place like Nebraska? Or do we need someone who is experienced in dealing with natural disadvantages? To a certain extent I think it all depends on the person. I don't have a better answer to the question.
  11. So purely hypothetical question for ya Husker_x. It's for a buddy I know. More like a coworker I ran into... Anyway, let's say someone was at the tattoo parlor all day getting full-back ink. In Old English letters, shoulder to shoulder was "OC Frost HC" and below that, again full-back ink, was a really sweet black ink outline of Frost's head shot. Vertically along the left side it said "Husker" and vertically on the right side "Power" (both black outline, red fill). Would that be something you would think is reasonable over this rumor?!?!? Again just asking for a buddy. Appreciate your thoughts. I think your friend may need to see somebody.
  12. I wouldn't tattoo "lock" on my arm over a rumor like this, but as rumors go, it's either really creative, or really close to the decision-making process. Not to be a Debbie downer about the rumor, but the post could've been taken down due to the fact that it may be violating HIPAA....he did state that he helped a patient that worked in the Admin Dept. At Neb...should've never stated that...Just a thought... No worries. I was never up to begin with. It would be a very nice Christmas present, but I don't know of any really solid info that indicates it will happen.
  13. If there is any truth to the rumors that Eichorst told Bo to can his staff or walk, then I think it's quite likely the Nebraska job came with the caveat that Reilly would not just shoehorn his buddies in at Nebraska, but would instead scour the country for the very best we can get. Everybody seems to agree that this hire has the potential to go from "meh" to "sweet!" if and only if Reilly brings top assistants in to help him run the day to day. Everything Reilly has said suggests he understands that responsibility. I don't think it would have been a "this is our guy" interview if Riley's answer to questions about staff choices was: "Well . . . I plan on working with the people I've always worked with because that's the way I've always done it." Staff is the key here. He's got a chance to do things he could have never done at Oregon State. Seize this opportunity.
  14. Riley will calm a lot of nerves in the coming days. The staff hires alone will go a long way in smoothing over concerns. Fear gives way to optimism pretty quick, and it's not like we went out a hired a huge a-hole.
  15. I wouldn't tattoo "lock" on my arm over a rumor like this, but as rumors go, it's either really creative, or really close to the decision-making process.
  16. The Frost as OC rumor simply refuses to die. I'm not claiming any knowledge and I can speculate motivations for any scenario. But I will be thrilled if late tonight or tomorrow morning, Scott comes home.

Would that mean no Pro Style Offense? Or would he have to train & learn it?

  17. With what we're paying Mike, we need to go out and knock the coordinator search into the stratosphere on both sides of the ball. Mike seems plenty clever to have figured out that with the resources at his disposal, and the scope of the operation he's inherited, he has the right––and frankly, the obligation––to delegate responsibilities to the best possible people. Along those lines, I love the part in his presser where he committed to a special teams coach. Phenomenal idea.
  18. The thing is he's a health enthusiast. He does yoga, cycles, eats well. There was a national reporter (name escapes me) on Severe's podcast. She's personal friends with the family. I'm not so sure the agism argument is going to hold up long.
  19. Letter to former players in this thread. Not a bad start.
  20. Any indication of the future of the offense would go a long way in putting my mind at ease.
  21. Or, along those lines, what do you think/hope Coach Riley's vision for the program and selling the program will/should be?
