Yeah but the rush is still to be the first one out or almost the first one out.

Back in the day I used to LOVE to get these mags...head over to the pool with a few beers and get my bronze on while reading about all the teams.

Never dd I think there would be a day where NU was the "blurb team"

Yup, I posted screen caps, but I'll really dive in Memorial Day weekend. Kids will be done with sports, and I'll be able to hang out by the pool and chill.

Athlon Sports: Big Ten Football 2023 Predictions
The race to win the Big Ten Conference in the 2023 season starts where it ended the last two years. Michigan is once again the team to beat under coach Jim Harbaugh, and the Wolverines enter '23 with a clear goal of getting to the national championship and bringing a trophy home to Ann Arbor. But Harbaugh's team has plenty of company in the East Division with Ohio State and Penn State both expected to be CFB Playoff contenders this fall.

The outlook in the West Division is a little more unsettled. Although Wisconsin tops Athlon's predictions as the favorite in the division, Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota all have enough pieces to push for the top spot. Nebraska isn't ready to challenge for the West Division title under new coach Matt Rhule, but the Cornhuskers will be an intriguing team to watch this fall.

How does Athlon Sports project the Big Ten for 2023? Steven Lassan predicts and ranks the East and West Divisions in the Big Ten for this fall:

It's May. Nobody in college football is taking a snap in anger for nearly four months. That's a lot of time for everybody -- fans and media alike -- to kill waiting for something tangible to talk about. Thankfully, we have spring practice. Sure, spring practice is helpful for coaches and players to figure things out, but the primary reason for its existence is to draw wild conclusions from it with little evidence. Did the team's Twitter account post a video of your transfer WR making a sweet one-handed catch? Heisman! Did your local beat reporter see both quarterbacks fighting for the No. 1 job miss throws during the 10 minutes of practice they were allowed to watch? Worst passing offense ever! Need to hit the portal and gather some NIL money to buy Caleb Williams from USC!

We're all at our dumbest in May. Let's take a look at the kind of overreactions that could be going on around the message boards of Big Ten country right now.

    Nebraska

QB Jeff Sims is who Adrian Martinez was supposed to be: Adrian Martinez, like Scott Frost, arrived in Lincoln with a lot of hype, and the early returns were promising. Then things never got better. In some ways, they only got worse. Now both Martinez and Frost are gone, and here's Georgia Tech transfer Jeff Sims, who was so good this spring that last year's starter, Casey Thompson, hit the transfer portal. Sims was among the top players in the 2020 class and surprised many by committing to Georgia Tech. He made smart decisions with the football during the spring game, which is something Nebraska fans haven't seen from their QB often enough.

Just as spring football gets going - and before all the transfer portal dust settles and knowing how good these teams probably are - here's our first best guess on every Big Ten team's record. Again, this is the spring version - this will all be redone at the end of the summer.

College football's 2023 season is still a few months away, but it's never too early to look at projections, predictions and win totals for the upcoming year. DraftKings released its over/under numbers for the Big Ten's 14 teams on Friday, with Michigan (10.5), Ohio State (10.5), Penn State (9.5), and Wisconsin (9) topping the list of projected top programs for '23.

Although the transfer portal movement is still ongoing and more offseason news is likely to come, the early win total odds have plenty of value for college football bettors.

    CollegeFootballNews: Iowa 2023 Preview

Several things can be true at once. Yes, Iowa can be offensively-challenged, and yes it might be painful to watch at times, and yes, sometimes it does feel like one safety might be enough points, and yes ... the defense and the program’s overall style of play continue to work. For all the pain and misery and sadness caused by Iowa making America watch that O, the team was a gag against Nebraska away from playing for the Big Ten championship and hit the eight win mark for the seventh time in eight seasons - the outlier being the eight-game 2020 campaign going 6-2.

What if Iowa stays Iowa but with more offensive talent? More on that in a moment, but as is, the program continues to do just fine.

    HuskerOnline: Iowa Spring Preview

Kakert: “It’s going to be a fascinating game simply because I always think there’s going to be something to play for in this one. That will probably be the case again this year for one or both teams. There will be something on the line for it.

“It’s a great mystery right now with Matt Rhule, but I think Nebraska’s probably got some confidence coming into this game simply because they were able to get a win last year. I think Iowa’s probably going to have some motivation coming in, and who knows if the point total is going to come into play to see if Brian Ferentz is getting to 25 (ppg) in that 12th game of the year.”

    2023 win-loss expectation for Iowa

“I have them penciled in right now at about 10 wins, give or take a game either way. It could be better, or it could be 9-3. I know Vegas has them at 7-5; I think that’s just a tad bit too low. I think Iowa’s getting a little bit underestimated right now.

“We know the defense is going to be solid. I just can’t imagine the offense is going to be worse than what it was last year, and I think McNamara is going to help them there. If they can just get an average offense, instead of one of the worst offenses in college football, to go with a strong defense, they could easily win 10 games.”

Athlon Sports: #26 Iowa 2023 Preview & Prediction

If Iowa can jumpstart an offense that averaged only 18.7 points a game in Big Ten play last year, the West Division title should be within reach once again for coach Kirk Ferentz's squad. Despite the loss of linebacker Jack Campbell and standout cornerback Riley Moss, the Hawkeyes will rank among the Big Ten's best on defense. Michigan transfer Cade McNamara should be an upgrade at quarterback, and Ferentz dipped into the portal for help along the offensive line and at receiver. Those additions provide optimism Iowa should show some improvement on offense in '23.

    CollegeFootballNews: Wisconsin 2023 Preview

The Wisconsin Badgers needed to pivot. The last Rose Bowl win was after the 1999 season, and the last Big Ten Championship came in 2012. Even worse, Wisconsin can't get by Minnesota lately, and Northwestern, Iowa, and Purdue represented the West in the last three Big Ten title games. But for those (hand raised) who happened to be around the program during most of an eight-year run of losing seasons - including a super-fun 4-29 stretch from 1988 to 1990 as the low point in an era that enjoyed just six winning campaigns from 1964 to 1992 - freaking out last year over things slipping seemed to be wee bit of a reach. Wisconsin - even with all of last year's drama after a 2-3 start - just finished its 21st straight winning season, won its eighth bowl game in the last nine years, and earned the distinction of being the winningest Power Five program not to make the College Football Playoff during the era.

With that said, after winning a ton of games lately without enough big-time things to show for it, it was time to try something different.
In 1989 a young, tan-rocking, sleep-deprived Barry Alvarez came in fresh off of helping Notre Dame win the national title, told everyone he was going to make Wisconsin great at college football, and then did it. Now it's Luke Fickell's job to use all that Alvarez built and tweak it just enough to push Wisconsin out of its comfort zone of success and into a whole other level.

    HuskerOnline: Wisconsin Spring Preview

As for Lepay’s win-loss record expectation, he said he’s been around long enough to learn not to set numbers.

“I do know that the excitement level up here is higher than it’s been in a long time,” he said. “I just think people are familiar enough with Luke Fickell, and his performance as a coach, how good of a player he was back in back in the 90s.

“At Ohio State and the way he has grown as a coach, first on the staff at Ohio State as the interim also in 2011, between Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer, but his work on Urban Meyer’s staff, and then obviously, what he’s done in Cincinnati. So fan expectations are extremely high.”

Lepay did say that the usual expectation is for the Badgers to make a bowl game.

“That has almost been a bit of an automatic here, which is very dangerous to say,” he said. “Wisconsin has been to a bowl game every year since 2002. A couple of years, it’s been just barely, obviously, this last year was a disappointing year by their standards. But not going to a bowl game would be that would be quite a blow here.”

The “Voice of the Badgers” also thinks the Wisconsin will be a “strong contender” in the Big Ten West.

Athlon Sports:  #17 Wisconsin 2023 Preview

It's a new era at Wisconsin with Luke Fickell taking over as the program's head coach following a successful stint at Cincinnati. The former Ohio State player is no stranger to life in the Big Ten thanks to his background with the Buckeyes and has a chance to get his tenure with the Badgers off to a fast start as the preseason favorite to win the West Division. New play-caller Phil Longo should open up the offense from his Air Raid roots, but this unit still goes through running back Braelon Allen. The defense returns eight starters and should be one of the best in the Big Ten.
