(I’ve tried to post this twice but it didn’t seem to go through) Northwestern lost their qb-Thorsen. Kentucky lost their top running back Snell. NW playing well.

I’m not sure what quantifications you are looking for. I said I am probably in the minority because I think there are a lot of posters on this board that care how well the Big Ten teams do, especially in bowl games. Myself, I really don’t care. I’m not openly rooting for many other teams other than Nebraska, unless those games have a DIRECT correlation on where NU will end up in a given season. As it currently stands, Nebraska had a super s#!tty season, so I could give 2 s#!ts about how well the conference does during bowl season. All the games are having an INDIRECT impact on Nebraska.
-
You said: “Caring about how other teams in the conference do is something that fans of losing teams do.“. How so? Nebraska was a losing team this year but that hasn’t always been the case. Other folks on this board root for other teams in our conference-so are you calling us losers?
I just like to watch football period. I will always root for a B1G team playing against a team not in our conference. I also root for old Big 8 teams. I will never root for Texas or Notre Dame.
-
@ColoradoHusk, I root for ever B1G team except the Huskers to lose unless they're playing the SEC, then I root for the SEC to lose. If every single team but the Huskers lost every game, I'd be cool with that. I don't give a crap about the conference or who thinks which conference is the best or whatever.

@The Dude Frosturbate?

Yes they do-I sure did in this thread and I apologize. I especially apologize to C N Red. He was just joshing me and I blew up. I'm not usually like that. My two brothers and my Dad used to do that to me and my hubby does it all the time so you would think I would just roll with it.
So, sorry everyone. Please forgive my outburst. GBR.

Hey Knap, the Tour has been brutal. Geariaint Thomas, who is the lead out man for Chris Froome, who is currently wearing the yellow jersey and will probably win it all, crashed out as did second place rider Richie Porte. Richie was going 40mph around the curve hit the edge of the road, flew off his bike and hit the wall on the other side. Two Americans, Taylor Phi net and Nate Brown both got to wear King of the Miuntains jersey. Andrew Talansky is in the best place. He may win a stage when t...

Lost my Dad yesterday. He was 82 and boy did he love sports. Most of our conversations were about the Huskers and the Mo. Tigers. Dad always liked to watch women's college basketball because he said they still played Team Ball. He will be missed.

Going through old newspapers I’ve kept relating to the Huskers. Ran across the OWH edition of Bo’s firing and laughed at these headlines:
Shatel: Eichorst Sounds Like a Man With a Plan
Shatel: Don’t Expect AD Eichorst to Flounder as Pederson Did in 03 (No he just set out to destroy our program!)
Chaitlain: Eichorst Proves He Understands NU Tradition, Standards (HUH?!)
I’ll bet both of these reporters cringe at these articles!

For those headlines. Eichorst was a man with a plan (the plan ended up not working, but it was a plan). Eichorst did not flounder like Pederson did in '03, he found a guy and hired him. Again the hiring ended up back firing on him, but he did have a plan.
The Chatelain headline is one that does not work, but was there anything at that point that indicated that firing Bo was a bad move. IIRC most fans were at the point ready for Bo to move on.
Hindsight is always 20/20 and I don't see a problem with 2 of the 3 headlines (with the Chatelain one coming off the fact that most of Eichorst's firing press conference was spent discussing the fact that while 9 wins was ok, we should be striving for more).
-
If Eichrost had a plan, he would have fired Bo the season before when Bo challenged him to do so. Eichorst did make a quick hire, but it was heavily questioned by all, though everyone agreed Mike was a "nice guy". To say we had to wait until hindsight before we could understand the missteps of those choices is misleading.
Also, it was well documented that the fan base was completely split about firing Bo.

Does anyone know where you can find morrell mushrooms around the Omaha area? When I was a kid we would go mushroom hunting all the time in the Spring. They are delicious when deep fried and served with homemade onion rings made from Vidallia onions.

Anyone from Chicago on the Board? If so, where can I get the best Chicago Style Pizza? Going to go to Chicago next weekend-staying on Michigan Ave.

Wow! So sad Gretna had to forfeit their football championship win.

I wouldn't worry too much about him @ladyhawke. It wasn't "his" fault and if anything, this will make people not from Gretna more likely to remember that GHS won the state title game in 2021.
-
and, the medals were not taken from them. The administration bares the blame and hopefully the young man, his family and the team knows it's not "his" fault. Absolute let down by the school, the coaches and the NSAA.. (hard to imagine why this wasn't addressed before the playoffs, maybe they couldn't for legal reasons) Still, heartbreaking for the athletes

Here’s the full story! Wow.

Man! Big Red Wrap Up is smoking tonight. People are just telling it like it is. O-Line is the big issue as well as qb performance. Jay Moore was giving insights too. Wow. If you didn't catch it at 7 it will be on again at 11

Favorite Christmas movie? I love the original 'Miracle on 34th St.' with Maureen O'Hara but my all time favorite is one they never show anymore. It's called 'A Christmas Story' by Truman Capote. It's a story told by Capote when he was a child. I can watch it on YouTube. The music score makes the film. The late Geraldine Paige stars. What is your favorite Christmas movie?

@GSG I might need the details for that drinking game. I suspect I've been doing it all wrong.

@Comfortably Numb I THINK WE DO A COMBINATION OF THESE TWO:
http://www.reeldrinkinggames.com/its-a-wonderful-life.html
http://drinkinggamemania.blogspot.com/2012/04/its-wonderful-life.html
WE USED THE 2ND ONE BECAUSE OF THE COP SHOOTING INTO A CROWD OF BYSTANDERS
ALSO, I WOULD RECOMMEND USING BEER OR MAKING SOME SLIGHTLY WEAKER COCKTAILS. OTHERWISE YOU MIGHT NOT MAKE IT TO THE END

UCF is 12th in the AP and 10th in the Coaches Poll??? Unbelievable!! http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21942367/college-football-playoff-executive-director-bill-hancock-stands-committee-decision-rank-ucf-no-12

The CFP committee has been pretty consistent - UCF didn't play a tough enough schedule and is being penalized for it. I think they have a point but only to a degree.
I don't think it's wholly fair and a system should be in place that would allow a team like UCF to compete for a title. There just should be. That said, should an undefeated team that played the 54th strongest schedule get a spot over say a one loss team with the 6th tough schedule? I think that's dicey.
-
Yeah, I just feel like they got penalized enough by missing out on the playoffs. Then they played a pretty legit team on New Year's. SEC. Beat both MNC finalists, right? Supposedly they were going to get creamed, finally. And they didn't just show they belonged, they beat Auburn. #2 is the only fitting consolation I think. It doesn't actually mean anything. If other teams feel like they deserved it more maybe they should have avoided losing games. If we all want this to be more clear in the future than don't have a 4 team playoff.

Glad to hear Matt Davidson will still do the color commentary for the Nebraska games again this year! https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/sipple/steven-m-sipple-davison-says-he-ll-tell-it-like/article_f4d9229a-0a13-5f25-82ba-14f2425f72f7.html#tracking-source=home-top-story-1

Do you and your families open a gift on Christmas Eve?
- Show previous comments 6 more

We never used to open gifts on Christmas Day. We always went to church and came home to gifts and appetizers (grown ups drank ) Then on Christmas Day we would have a big dinner without the "hub bub" of presents.
Now, with a wife that sometimes works on Christmas Eve (like tonight), and living in different towns than our parents and siblings, opening gifts are a crap shoot. We'll probably start tomorrow and finish sometime around New Years Eve..haha!!

I heard that Malik Collins and Vincent Valentine are considering leaving for the NFL draft. Anyone else hear that?
