  1. IMHO Bo can run his program however he wants, but as fans we have the right to know about our team. Not just from a fan stand point, but from a financial standpoint.

I spend over $100 a year on my student tickets. That's nothing in comparison to season ticket holders, but for argument's sake... There are thousands of people who pay money to go to these games and give our athletic department millions of dollars to make sure our athletes (in all sports) have the best possible resources to succeed.

There are also thousands of people who donate to said athletic department (aka boosters).

They don't do it because they like to throw their hard earned money around. They do it to support a program they care about, they love, and they want to see succeed.

From that standpoint, we have a right to know (and demand) certain amounts of information from the programs we support. Some of you may think it's a trivial pursuit, and I somewhat agree. That said, until people have reason to not care about it, they will. Telling people to care less isn't going to do you any good because that simply will not happen in this state with this program.

Why does supporting the team financially, which is a personal choice, entitle the 'giver' to know every detail of the team? I don't see this happening with any of the other teams at NU. It's like being little old lady town gossips. What if we did know about Castille and why Marvin really left? Would that change your giving? If so, then what are you really supporting? Bo took care of those kinds of things privately. He had his reasons. Perhaps if everyone knew all of the 'skeletons in the closets' it could hurt those former players/coaches in obtaining other positions later. Give the guy credit for being discrete. That's a rare quality these days. Bo hasn't done anything illegal here. I say leave the guy alone and let HIM coach.

  2. Per Osborne, it all starts up front. Let's hope Cotton and Garrison can put together a line that minimizes penalties and sustains blocks. Then, we'll see some consistency on offense.

I wonder, though, even if we have the best offensive line and defensive line and win it all there is STILL going to be someone complaining about something (Why didn't Bo dress up for this game!?)lol There are just some people who like to complain. God love em! lol

  3. Beck, Els, and Raymond?

We still would have a spot though. We lose a WR and an OC. Garrison fills one spot, but since Beck is moved to OC we have one more spot to either coach WRs or RBs

Isn't there a possibility that Ron Brown could be moved to coach the WRs?

  4. Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself, I hope to get to know you fellow Husker fans and enjoy good debate about Husker sports, as well as get rid of this lame 1 Post Profile, and get a big higher, :)

And to give my first piece of news, I saw today that Kevin Wilson announced the hiring of Nebraska intern Brett Diersen as DE's Coach, so congratulations to Brett.

Welcome. This is one fun, wacky place!!

  5. Mitch Sherman is also saying that play-calling duties will belong to Beck.

    My link

So probably No Frost unless he's made Co-OC? From what I've read, I don't think he would come for anything less than an OC job.

  6. I really don't see the big deal. Bo does not owe anyone an explanation about when he will hire or who he will hire. He's paid to coach football and clearly hates dealing with the media and the questions and I don't blame him. He does make himself look a bit foolish, but I think he's just plain bad in the spotlight. We're blowing this way out of proportion. Once we find out who the hires are this will be old news, we'll forget about it, and we'll all imagine how unstoppable our offense will be next year and how we'll take the first Big 10 Championship.

I think Bo, like someone said, is just being extremely literal. Until someone's contract is up or it is "official," then no, there aren't staff openings. That's not how the question was intended, but that is how Bo is going to answer it. While he definitely has his flaws and could use a PR guy, he's a damn good football coach and I like to think he's a good person, despite his temper and lack of polish. He brings a lot of this on himself, but let's cut him some slack. At the end of the day the man is an old school, hardass, no-glitz-and-glamor football coach, and frankly I'll take that over some smooth-talking, greasy bastard like Slick Rick. He should definitely learn the phrase "no comment," but I really believe he's doing what he thinks is best for the football team and the program. He's not trying to deceive anyone, he just wants to handle business privately until everything is certain, which is how it should be. We're spoiled and demanding to think we should be entitled to every step in the decision-making process. Get real.

And saying everyone is up-in-arms over this is taking it too far. This will all blow over the minute the new coaches are announced, guaranteed.

Ahh! A voice of reason. Well done sir! I was just thinking about how cool it would be for us to win the Big 10 Championship our first year. Now THAT would be news!

Maybe Bo HAS to be literal right now. Could there be a chance that there are some legal ramifications in play that we don't know about. The whole Marvin Sanders situation sounds like a really sticky situation.

  7. Aaaargh - I just accidentally ejected the battery on my laptop after writing another response to some of this. Hopefully I can recapture what I was saying heh...

Let me be clear, I have no issue with the fact that he's a man of faith. I don't think he's alone in that on this staff, but not many others are wearing it on their sleeve to the degree that he does. I do, however, have an issue with him bringing it to work with him as an employee of a public institution, and specifically as someone in a position of authority over young men. I just don't think it's a proper thing to do, for him or for anyone else (and yes, I have/had issues with others for the same reason). If he wants to preach, then he should be a preacher, not a coach at a state university. I merely stated that I personally would not miss this aspect of his presence on the staff. Again, this is just my opinion on the matter. It's not shared by many here, which is no great surprise, but we don't all have to have the same opinion on the subject.

The other half of my comment has nothing to do with his religiosity. There's no doubt that he's a fine football coach, with many great qualities. However, no one on the staff is irreplaceable, and no individual makes or breaks the staff. If he goes, there's no doubt that he'll leave a big hole to fill, but I have complete confidence that we'll find someone who can bring similar talent, ability and intensity to the job. The bottom line is that I simply don't think that the potential of him leaving the staff is as big of a tragedy as others think. That doesn't take away from the fact that he's a tremendous football coach, even if some of you like to pretend that I just called him the worst coach on the planet.

I remember a time when Ron Brown was not here. You could tell the difference. The whole time he was gone there just felt like something was missing. When he came back it's like Husker Nation just breathed a sigh of relief. Here was someone who could inspire our boys, build confidence and character that was sorely lacking when he was gone.

I'm curious-have you ever heard Ron Brown speak? If you haven't, I would encourage you to give him a listen sometime. He spoke at our daughter's Baccalaureate-Wow. If 'wearing your faith on your sleeve' is going to change the life of a young man for the better-build character in him that will prepare him for life then I say-let 'er rip tater chip! Because the opposite is what we're seeing in alot of young lives today-many of these kids never get the opportunity to hear what the Ron Browns of the world have to say-it's sad too-because it might have changed their lives-in fact, many of these kids might still be alive today if they had heard what he and others like him have to say. Just my opinion :)

  8. (my first ever facepalm)

Why does Bo keep digging himself deeper? Some day he will have to take the head coach training wheels off. He definitely needs an admin assistant like Mack Brown has to deflect and act as a buffer.

i'll bet Bo farts in his seat at the movies......and then gets up and leaves...... :corndance

    HILARIOUS!! ahahahahaahahahahhaa!!

  9. The lure of working at his alma mater is apparently being dangled in front of Oregon receivers coach Scott Frost.

Nebraska coach Bo Pelini has contacted Frost about the possibility of taking a job with the Cornhuskers, the team Frost quarterbacked to the 1997 national championship. The Lincoln (Neb.) Journal Star reported late Wednesday that the two have spoken, and a UO source confirmed the interest from Nebraska in Oregon’s second-year receivers coach.

I took a peek over at one of the Oregon Ducks message board and they're hoping that Frost will be made a Co-OC there with the promise that he will be OC in a couple of years just to keep him at UO. They feel the same way about him that we do. The next few days are going to be very interesting.

  10. Just thought I would introduce myself since I am the new guy here. I am a huge Hawkeye fan, but I go to school in Omaha. I am really looking forward to the rivalry between Iowa and Nebraska. Should be a very interesting and close series between the two teams from here on out. I look forward to talking sports with the members from the other side, and as always GO HAWKS!

Welcome! Yeah, we can't wait until FARMAGEDDON either. Gonna be FUN!

  11. There really isn't a big deal here. Sanders stepped on his d*ck, we hired the guy from indiana, everybody (here on the board) is still lurking in the weeds, waiting for something bigger than this to happen at the 2012, otherwise known as the "press conference".

You totally crack me up!! I love this board. I love it that we can express our opinions and have really good discussion. I was in journalism in high school and almost majored in it in college so I know a little of the rigor that the reporters have to go through. It IS their job to report the news BUT they also need to be responsible in their reporting. I enjoy the sports writers from the OWH and I like listening to Sip from time to time but I think that Bo was probably sweating it a little at that conference because he knew that the media would bring up the coaching situation and it sounds like he was trying to keep his lips zipped because of the legal ramifications? I could be totally off base here but that's what I was thinking. I also think that when an agenda has been set it should be honored. However, I also think that Bo needs to take some classes in interpersonal communication. I really think he just doesn't know what to say sometimes. Since he has one of the most effective communicators (Dr. Tom) in his sphere, he should take advantage of Tom's expertise and simply practice. Have someone mentor him. It's not a difficult thing to do IF he wants to get better.

Anyway, thanks for the great discussion. I like having the freedom to share my opinion without being crucified. You guys are great and this board is a hoot.

  12. Gray matter began to ooze into the picture shortly before Pelini's midafternoon teleconference, when new Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson, during his own signing day news conference, revealed that Hoosiers assistant coach Corey Raymond was leaving to coach the secondary at Nebraska.

So what becomes of Marvin Sanders? His work with the Nebraska secondary has been exemplary. He coached arguably the best secondary in the nation this past season. However, two sources told me recently that Sanders may face disciplinary action by the school for a nonfootball issue. Asked if NU had taken any action against Sanders, athletic director Tom Osborne said at the time he didn't have any information.

    LINK

Sorry if already posted. I didn't see anything with a quick look.

Thanks for posting the link. Again, I thought Bo handled the presser just fine. He talked about the recruits and the recruiting process. When asked about coaching changes he said this is not the time or place but that he WOULD address that issue at a later time. I guess I don't know why everyone has their panties in a twist over this (no offense zoogies-just agree to disagree because I like what you write and encourage you to carry on! You've done great things on this board. Keep up the great work!) I think it was uncomfortable for the press because they came to the meeting with a different agenda-they had hot news from Kevin Wilson and by gosh they were going to get some answers. I can appreciate their wanting to know everything about that issue but Bo wasn't going to budge. However, they pushed him into a corner and he starting tripping up. I think maybe that's what's bothering everyone.
