  1. Steinkuhler had better start living up to those expectations or he's going to find himself watching from the sidelines. We have sick talent at DT, and we're solid four-deep. This is an embarrassment of riches, this is: 1st String: Crick/Steinkuhler 2nd String: Moore/Randle 3rd String: Rome/Guy 4th String: Peat/Williams Rankings are speculation on my part, of course, but I'm confident that any of those top six guys could come in and perform admirably this year. Those are some heavy hitters, and Baby Stein had best play like he wants the job. If he does, look for Crick and EMart/Stache to wreak havoc all year. Now I may not agree with your feelings towards the qb situation, but your depth at D-tackle is right-on. It kinda makes my heart pitter-patter a bit seeing those names on paper. We've got CRAZY depth on the d-line and I can't wait to see those boys in action. Seems like a "jump on or get the hell out of the way" kind of group. Kinda reminiscent of Grant Wistrom and the boys eh?
  2. Your kids are so cute. Enjoy them while they're young-they grow up so quickly (Take it from a Mom whose daughters are both grown and gone now )
  3. I am not overly familiar with AAU membership processes, but I believe it's a multi-pronged courtship. There is probably some "official" method, just like "officially" we applied to join the Big Ten, but the B1G recruited us as much as we approached them. It's one of those fun gray areas. Here is AAU membership information for anyone who is interested. http://www.aau.edu/about/membership_information.aspx?id=1110
  4. Do you mean Northwestern? (U of Chicago isn't in the B!G) but Northwestern is. Maybe they are the ones that voted against us-They're still mad because we beat the crap outta them in 2000 (66-17)lol The University of Chicago is known as a charter member of the Big 10. Academically, I believe they're part of the Big 10 in some regard. Got it. Thanks for the information (I was thinking strictly football)
  5. Do you mean Northwestern? (U of Chicago isn't in the B!G) but Northwestern is. Maybe they are the ones that voted against us-They're still mad because we beat the crap outta them in 2000 (66-17)lol
  6. I agree! Who will be our new Oklahoma? I vote for Wisconsin
  7. I don't understand what is so upsetting about all this. UNL is still going to the B10 and is still a great academic institution. Just because someone doesn't compliment me at bedtime on a job well done that day, doesn't mean I'm any less proud of what I accomplished since waking up that morning. Frankly, this is nothing to even bat an eye at. Let graduation rates, academic all-americans, and alumni success speak for itself. For me, it's been weeks of hearing how excited the B1G is in having NU join the ranks, how great it's going to be to have us in the B1G then this happens. It just stinks. But as others have pointed out, we're the same institution we were when they invited us. They knew we were having difficulties with our AAU membership so this is not surprising to the powers that be-it's just plain embarrassing. We ARE a great academic institution. It's like my Dad always says: "The sun WILL rise in the morning-everything going to be ok.'
  8. I totally LOVE this person's take on Nebraska getting booted out of the AAU: http://bigtwen.blogspot.com/2011/04/no-nus-club.html "But take heart, Nebraska fans: the AAU is a silly, increasingly irrelevant club. A few hundred academics at a few dozen universities decide which schools meet their necessary criteria (i.e., where would I be willing to teach if I were not already a tenured faculty member at Brown). Its criteria for membership are such that having top scholars on really, really important topics, like Jacques Derrida and the social meaning of boredom, but not things like producing more and safer foodstuffs. It has not admitted a new member in 10 years, because, hey, all the good work is already being done somewhere else, amirite? Besides, no one wants to live in Lincoln, Cornhuskers; it's bad enough I have to teach two lecture classes this semester and one of them meets on Fridays." This was a good blog entry. GBR!!!
  9. I doubt there are specific actions that can be taken at the drop of a hat to boost research funding or whatever the specific metrics are. Here's something to think about: Since 1999 tuition at MIT has quadrupled while it's "only" doubled at UNL. There are arguments that the mad dash to expand university research and funding has come at the expense of undergrads with higher tuition and absentee professors. Pork spending in the federal budget is quite often research grants requested by congressmen for their home district or state, and on that note the only tangible benefit of the AAU is their lobbying arm. I guess what puzzles me is 1)Why didn't they fully investigate Nebraska's AAU standings before now and 2)When Dr. Perlman was notified 10 years ago, why didn't the university develop an action plan to take care of the areas of weakness? Or did they?
  10. Gee. Being REALLY upset; lurking other boards for info; fans from other schools being pissed...I don't know who is the weirdest in this equation. With this whole kicked out of the AAU thing everyone needs to abide by the old stand-by: the one who cares least wins. Let's see....I could say that I think you are the weirdest because you don't care or I could be weirdest because I care too much or we could just put our heads in the sand and pretend it doesn't matter....or.... It does matter...but perhaps only to me. BUT! Won't it be fun to be able to watch the 'nay-sayers' eat crow if Nebraska wins the B1G championship their first year out? THAT would be sweet. P.S. I hope you're not offended by what I wrote. I'm just mad and if caring for NU is weird then yeah, I'm a HUGE weirdo lol I just don't like people bad-mouthing our school. I hope this all gets resolved very soon.
  11. As you can see by my many 'replies' this issue has really upset me. I've been reading other message boards from the rest of the teams in the B1G and many of them are really angry. This DOES make the B1G look bad and why did it have to be Nebraska, who was being welcomed into the B1G with open arms, to spoil everything? However, I did find this thoughtful post on, of all things, an Iowa Hawkeyes message board. There is still hope that NU will be reinstated but it's going to take some time, I'm afraid. "A bit of history. When Michigan State became a member of the conference it was not a member of the AAU. It did not become an AAU member until 1964 after joining the conference in 1953. Purdue's AAU membership did not begin until 1958 after joining the conference in 1896. Also remember the Big Ten conference was formed before the AAU was formed. I think it is a mistake to think Nebraska would not have been admitted because of its AAU status. Obviously AAU members know what other members' status is. I expect that Nebraska will begin work to attain membership once again." Notre Dame is not an AAU member yet the B1G has been courting them for years so there are some huge inconsistencies here. I also learned that UNMC WAS once part of the NU system but they parted ways a long time ago. Does anyone have any history on this? The whole thing just stinks. I don't know about anyone else but it rather taints our entrance into the B1G 10. Blah.
  12. Well, the AAU is headed by Larry R. Faulkner, president emeritus of the University of Texas. Go figure. I hope that whole fawking state burns to the ground. Actually all of the B1G members AND the Big 12 members voted FOR Nebraska. This whole thing stinks. I can't figure out why they didn't investigate this prior to inviting Nebraska to the B1G. One day you're in and the next you're booted out? Also, if Dr. Perlman KNEW that there was a danger that NU would get booted out, why wasn't something done about it WAAAYYYY before now?
  13. Who IS that person? I read some of his posts too-really hates the Huskers!
  14. Good article. My question is why didn't they look at NU before they invited them into the B1G? This doesn't make sense to me. My other question is why isn't UNMC part of the NU system? What would it take to make them part of the system? I checked out some of the message boards from the other B1G 10 schools-they're not happy-of course Iowa is gloating about this all over the place. I SO hope we beat the crap outta them this year! Bring on FARMAGGEDON!!!
  15. lol, really? Maybe check the list? sigh.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_American_Universities Sorry-my bad...I thought I had read somewhere where they were NOT part of the AAU
  16. I just read this on espnu. It said that our CIC situation would not be effected. It's so embarrassing though! http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/26078/nebraska-loses-aau-status
  17. So, once you're out you're out or can they get back in? This is not a good thing. I'm hoping that University of Nebraska and the University of Nebraska Medical Center can join hands and get this resolved. This is NOT a good thing. I'm editing this post because Missouri IS a member of the AAU. I'm from Missouri-good to know they are part of the AAU...maybe.
  18. The poll is not there anymore-It's been replaced by 'Do you think Jim Tressell should be fired or kept: 66% of the nation thinks Tressel should be fired
  19. I've heard some other sports news folks talking about this situation. They say that Bo would NOT be at the top of the list-probably like 3rd or 4th. No worries mate-not after the wad UNL just gave him!

i have seen some ridiculous calls for very minor end zone celebrations, sad, let the kids be kids. For some of these kids, that one touchdown may be the only one they make in their college careers. They are in college, for crying out loud! Everyone knows that college is the LAST bastion of irresponsibility! But seriously, making a touchdown for your team IS a cause for celebration! How long does it take to celebrate? 20 seconds! It's not like they're creating a Conga line or anything! Let the kids play!! (Who is really complaining about this anyway? The coaches? The AD's? The fans?) I don't like the 'flips into the end zone' you can sustain a spinal cord/neck injury doing stupid things like that but to turn and salute your fans after a touchdown? I felt so badly for that kid! I think alot of people were just stunned when they called a penalty on that. Stoopid!!
  21. I saw this entry when I logged on and a link below it: Take Back Gameday - A Nebraska Student Movement Wisconsin can get something like this started and we can't? Yeah, right. Game on, Big Ten. Remember to check back tomorrow morning (4/22) to find out exactly what we're all about! In the meantime, push the like button! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMLmRNt12xI&feature=related The Wisconsin kids 'jump around' to get the rest of the student body excited and into the game. It will be interesting to find out what it is.
  22. Does anyone know why he left Alabama then Eastern Michigan?
