  1. Hoping photoshop skills wasted.
  2. #3. Preparing for national relevance, I think Huskers® presents best. I've always thought the block N is somewhat dead when seen on TV. Let's be honest, Herbie is our version of "Sooie Pig!" ...cue Dana Altman throwing up a little bit in his mouth.
  3. I think they did the basketball game the other night.
  4. ...that an ugly game in the snow will be easy to remember as the end of the beginning.
  5. So... how many new little huskers will be born on or about 9/3/18? (I'm outta that game, but my neighbor's 3 kids line up precisely with the last 3 National Championships -for real!)
  6. This, sir, is an excellent question! (...bend the damned bill overnight and you're good to go!)
  7. I think we really need to throw props at some point to Bounds and Green for beginning ALL OF THIS by finding and bringing in Moos. All has been well-planned before showing SE the door...
  8. Nope. The climate is the toxic one in where fans claim the team and the game as their own. The fans don't train, practice, sweat, bleed, take the bus rides, study the playbook, do the strength and conditioning, feel the pain, etc., etc., yet the feel like they are a HUGE part of it because they have cable, buy a shirt, or plunk their @$$ down on a seat. College football was supposed to be for the college students. Unfortunately, college students don't have the income, so marketing morphed it into a way to milk fans of their cash. In return, a 50 year old overweight and out of shape man feels he has the right to say "WE won the national championship!" because he bought an overpriced jersey. My guess is that the players would have just as much fun playing even if you and I didn't watch them, discuss, them, or tweet them. You think any of these guys would be here for an empty stadium?
  9. Late to it, but damned good discussion guys...Accountability, I am totally with you in all of your expressed thoughts. I would offer this in addition to what Barry Switzer said about 'the Jimmy's and Joe's"... There's something intangible in college football about what the total 'energy' is on the sideline (screw offense or defense) ...there just is. TM sucks that energy out of the whole team for some reason. Honest to God I don't know why, but he does. TM's impact is significant enough to bring down Pelini's tenure at Nebraska. I believe that. Knapp, I have never seen you so wrong. (and I've been 'mostly' a lurker for a very, very long time...)
  10. No matter... Set 'em up and knock 'em down consistently is the only thing that will return us to top flight of recognized teams. The rest of this is just too much 'statistics' for me. There is no bias or magic chemistry here fellas (imho)... If there is some, it's just midseason crap that always shows up. The other conferences will end up beating the hell out of themselves in coming weeks. We handle our schedule, we end up where we should be.
  11. Going with this... So if 'the Horseshoe' was sold, what would the Huskers now touch on their way out?
  12. The story goes that the horseshoe was found in the dirt when the Husker played Notre Dame in 1922 at Nebraska Field, Memorial Stadium's predecessor. The Huskers beat Notre Dame that year. When the two teams met again in 1923 the Huskers touched the "lucky horseshoe" on their way to the field before the game. It worked, and the Huskers won again, making them the only team in history to have defeated the vaunted "Four Horsemen" twice. It was hung up over the doorway leading out of the locker room after that year so the players could easily touch it as they entered Memorial Stadium, and it's been there ever since. Thanks Knapp. Didn't know that one. It would be interesting to try to scrounge photos of where and how it's been hung for all the years....
  13. Partially right 0ver 80% of tackles arent face to face, they are at some type of angle But again you tackle with your feet, putting youreself in close enough proximity to be able to lower your hips and roll your hips through contact When you are slow to the ball (poor read, poor speed, poor body control or poor angles), you arent close enough to lower/roll the hips, hence all the whiffs, arm tackling and diving ...if you only really see 4.5 or better speed on Saturdays.
  14. All I'm saying is watch the air go out of the balloon now... "Tom knew about it and handled it, good enough for me." I'm not saying that is my personal opinion mind you, but I think it is what will happen. I was saying (meaning) that we will never have a definitive voice like him again.
  15. Take off your sandals when you read this thread. What are we going to do when he is gone?... and I'm friggin' serious.
  16. TOB this is bullcrap. Question is, how much did ND officials know, and when did they know it? This was allowed to be a season-long tear jerker for a serious heisman candidate. This will continue to blow up... there's a serious difference between what an individual young dude believes in his bedroom late at night, and what is allowed to be broadcast all over ESPN, SI, Major networks, etc. This will be a very big onion with a lotta layers methinks...
  17. Sorry...............big time disagreement from me on this............."as good as we can get here".................excuse. Kindly explain how a major school in a prestigious conference with a new facility and the absolute "best" practice facility with a competitive salary and a passionate fan base faunching to be unleashed could fail to attract a broad spectrum of candidates ??? :clap :clap :clap :clap
  18. has anybody checked... does the practice facility have 10' rims?
  19. That's the uncomfortable dichotomy............I could never root against the Huskers, but if they win 'just enough' to maintain the status quo for another year.............we are just putting off the inevitable...... In that same vein... Note; I'm a season ticket holder in a group of long time season holders, and have now heard this, "It's time for protest. It's time for doc & co. to start playing in front of 3,000 people." How's that grab ya?... (and students, please note that this costs us older guys a helluva lot of money, time, and scheduling to make BB a priority - I'm (we're) flat running out of support-at-all-costs patience.)
  20. Isn't that kind of the same thing that happened with Mike Anderson? I was absolutely giddy when I saw Tom wouldn't give a comment. 1620 had someone on, may have Robin Washburn but can't remember, who believed Tom has given Doc a number much like he did with billy c. Reach x amount of wins and you can stay, fail and I'll have to let you go. Either way, a no comment from Tom pretty much means Doc has to start fighting for his job. just my gut, but I'm reading this in demeanor of recent statements from doc too... "just gonna focus on my job." there seems to be some wind gone from his sails. TO on sports nightly tonight (have to get the magnifying glass for my ears out...) parse away.
  21. A successful BBall program is a sleeping giant (financial and otherwise) in these parts... I'm officiall 'calling my shot' - TO sees this, and will do his absolute best to leave Volleyball (new facilities) and Men's Basketball on an upward trajectory before his depature. how's that for just 'a Thursday'...? I was 1000% convinced T.O. wouldn't fire Doc cause he does things the 'right way' but the more I've thought about it the past week, the more I think he can and will pull the trigger. As stupid as it may sound, I finally became convinced of it last night during/after the game. People WILL sell out games if the team is even going just one game over .500 in conference every year and making the tourney. Tom is not dumb, he sees and hears the roars for ONE freaking win during a TERRIBLE season. I honestly thought since Doc had one conference win after PSU that he would be around to see in the new arena, but I'm starting to think if he finishes with fewer than 5 wins this year Tom will put him on notice if not give him the boot. He may give one more year under the guise of fairness, but in all reality it'll probably be just bring in a new coach with the new arena closer to being openned. His team next year won't win enough games if he's on the hot seat anyway. It's a really hard thing, because fundamentally I love Doc, and would just love to invite him over to my place for multiple beers... (and know folks who do.) It's just business.
