  1. ^ Lincoln Riley seems to be doing pretty well at OU. His previous pedigree has no HC experience and he only spent 2 years under Stoops before being named his successor. Some people just have it. Scott Frost has it. Mike Riley doesn't. Frost should have been the guy back when Riley was hired. My fear at this point is that he doesn't want the job. He's doing an amazing thing at UCF and his life will be a lot easier in the Florida hot bed versus the Midwest desert.
  2. I mean, the reason we are so well known for the option is TO ran the s#!t out of it. Sure there are slight variations of the play, but we had a pretty common component, especially with Tommie Frazier.
  3. I find it hilarious how people keep toting that the old farts don't have access to social media.... What planet are you all from? 70+ year olds love their social media. Are they extremely naive when it comes to using it? Sure. But they all have it...
  4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2dF4kZmKn8&feature=player_embedded Knock yourself out.
  5. Wisconsin is by far my favorite program in the B1G other than the Huskers. Your program is everything I wish ours would be.
  6. Tom Osborne can also recollect very specific details to hundreds of the big games that he coached. And like I stated, Mike Riley doesn't have to be a hot-head to instill a sense of pride in his team. If you watch any of the numerous videos on youtube of TO talking with his former players, you sense the respect they have for him, but you also realize that a lot of that respect comes from the fear they have of disappointing the guy. They'll joke about incidents that make Tom Osborne appear as a scary dude, and although I'm sure there is a bit of exaggeration, you get the "but no, seriously...that's how it was" vibe.
  7. Wisconsin sitting at 65 strength of schedule. To put that in perspective, Nebraska is at 64. If you watched the NW game last week, they didn't look like a top 10 team. I'd even claim they are easily beatable, but we've struggled and lost against worse teams, so who knows...
  8. It's no secret. I'm not alone. I don't like Mike Riley. I have nothing against the guy personally. He seems like a great guy with a good head on his shoulders. But as a coach for the team that I support, I don't like the guy. 5 Reason why I am not a fan of Mike Riley 1. I don't like his style of coaching. Mike Riley isn't the guy that is going to get you jacked up for the game. His interviews are rather dry. He talks a lot and simultaneously says almost nothing. 2. I don't like his style of play. Mike Riley, or Langs in this case, often leave you in sheer bewilderment. It's not the "Wow, that was clever, really caught the defense off guard on that call" sort of bewilderment, but more often the "Why would you take that sort of risk in that situation" sort of bewilderment. Not only that, but as crazy as it seems, I think certain topics in football are only now starting to sink in with the 60 year old coach. Concepts on basic clock management, tempo, risk/reward, etc. I know it seems crazy, but I just can't get on board with a lot of the decisions that are made from an offensive strategy perspective. 3. More like 2b, but yes, his offensive strategy. They key to college football, in my opinion, is adapting your strategy to your players. Determine the identity of your team and then set up a system that both utilizes your teams strengths and isn't predictable. I constantly feel like Riley and Co fail on this front. Our play-calling from last year to this year feel identical, yet we lost a mobile-qb who struggle with accuracy and gained a statue that struggles with pressure. On top of that, I feel like even my 8 year old niece can predict what play the Huskers are running next as they line up. 4. 2C on this one. Mobility at the QB spot. This is a personal preference of mine, but it's the style of offense I prefer to watch. A dual-threat QB and a physical team. Something I don't see Riley and Co bringing to NU. 5. His seemingly content attitude towards losing. I know Bo was a hot-head, but for once I'd like to see Mike Riley get a little fired up. You're freaking Nebraska. You're dropping games to nobodies. You're getting blown out. Get pissed off. Tell us all that it's unacceptable. Make the program feel some shame. Create some sort of catalyst that lights a fire under your team and gives them a "never again" mentality. While we're talking about Bo, let's squash that argument. I don't dislike Riley because I liked Bo. Quite the opposite. I thought Bo was toxic. And when Riley first came in, I knew nothing about the guy, but I was willing to give him a chance. So really... I dislike Mike Riley because I've found nothing to like about him in 3 years and I've ran out of patience.
  9. Ok. Well as it stands, I'm just making a prediction. I could be wrong, and I'd be pleasantly surprised.
  10. Does it bother you that everyone on this forum isn't all gun-ho about our current coaching staff? I could throw on a fake smile and give out a few hip-hip hoorays if that pleases you?
  11. I don't disagree, but how does that change the fact that our current head coach is a dud?
  12. Another streak that is bound to come to an end under the direction of Mike Riley.
  13. If NU beats Wisconsin, we still have to overcome some pretty damn big games. OSU, Penn State, Iowa. Tack on not losing to any of the mediocre teams on our schedule. Every game from this point on is at best a coin flip.
  14. Sometimes it pays to be bold. but there were a lot of balls thrown that would have been picks if Busch league Illinois wasn't our opponent..
  15. Throwing money at problems when you have money to throw at it typically does solve problems. When you consider that NU football generates over 30M/year in profit for the NU athletic department, it's probably smart to protect your golden goose.
  16. Win the games we're supposed to win means we're undefeated at this point. It's not pampering, it's called sliding expectations. You can have the expectation to win every game we play if you like, but sorry, that's not realistic. I'm not pandering to any rhetoric, I just prefer to not live in a world where I'm constantly let down because my expectations are constantly not met. It's very much your opinion that we're more talented than Wisconsin. The players should strive to win every game. The fans can be a bit more realistic, you know, if they want to... Edit: Also being competitive means sometimes you win the big games. Never said that we always lose to ranked opponents...
  17. If we fire Riley, Diaco(and anyone else) sticks around if: 1. They want to stick around 2. The new HC wants them to stick around. /thread
  18. He doesn't need to beat Wisconsin. Just being competitive in the game and not losing to them in a way that is undeniably his fault(see poor clock management) will earn him some respect by most. if we lose the game in a hard fought 20-23 fashion, I think most fans will be a bit disappointed, but ultimately we'll be content. Same can be said for Ohio State. That's the expectation of realistic Husker fans. Win the games we're supposed to and be competitive in the big games.
  19. My post was half satire, hence all the colorful notions. I agree with the consensus that Rimington won't fire anyone. With that said, for people who want Riley gone, Trev might be a good choice. He's shown before that he's not afraid to drop the ax.
  20. I think the Interim AD hire allows for Dave Rimington to take care of the dirty job of firing our coach just before his interim period expires. Super-hero, Trev Alberts, can arrive just in time and with his first order of business, announce the hiring of Scott Frost. Husker Nation can then rejoice as we're reminded the importance of Nebraska is maintaining ties to our roots. Then the curtain comes to a close with Tom Osborne riding off into the sunset and a vague notion that this was made possible thanks to him.
  21. The coach speak has literally pierced your skull and removed your ability to be rational and think for yourself. Getting better alone isn't enough. It never is. The team is already behind. Most teams get better. The teams that are good right now that we play later on in the season are going to be better when we play them. As the other poster had pointed out. We're fans. We can speculate all we want. That is half the fun of being a fan. "Cross that bridge when we get to it"... First off, that implies that we actually have any control over the situation. We don't. As a fan, it doesn't make one lick of difference if I only focus on the next game or if I try to string out the probability of us winning the national championship in 2047.
  22. One of us is out of touch because I feel like there is no way #2 and #4 is what the majority of Husker fans want. I'd guess the majority of Husker fan's hope our search involves a time-machine or some sort of reverse-aging serum and we end up with a 45-year old version of Tom Osborne. If that's not possible, then it's as follows 2. Scott Forst 3. Urban Meyer 4. Nick Saban 5. Frankie Les Miles makes an honorable mention. Jon Gruden also get's mentioned, but he too closely resembles Callahan (except without the punch-able face)...
  23. You're right. It is sad. It's how sad this new coaching staff is.
  24. This is kind of a dumb question, is it not? Outside of bringing light to the fact that Scott Frost may not want the UNL job, the question has a pretty obvious answer. You go to your next best option.
  25. Bold indeed. POB turns the ball over on his first drive. Half of the usual viewers don't watch the game because they'd rather watch High School football.
