I think anyone should be shocked that you have to explain the whole right vs wrong and what you choose effects your life. Shouldn't families be instilling that in their children. Not football Head Coaches. But he has a great approach, no blustering rampage, just state the case and consequences. NEXT. GBR

Prison population/non violent drug offenders
rawhide replied to BigRedBuster's topic in Politics & Religion
As pointed out in the article. The myth is that we can solve our prison over population by not locking up non-violent drug offenders. Now, we might all agree we need to do that. But, that's not going to all of a sudden solve our over population problem. Oh, I don't believe that will solve all of our problems. I don't know anyone that alleges it will solve all of our problems. That seems like a strawman argument. I do believe non-violent drug offenders is a good place to start productive reform. Thanks LoMS, you're a shining beacon. I'd say go back even further to 40-50 years ago. I'd be even younger Yeehaww. yup white hetero and YOUNGER BABY But looking back must be a bad thing, right? I mean, the civil rights movement, space program, etc. all bad. Just sayin', cause everyone knows nuthin' good ever came of the good ol days. GBR -

My son has been a sworn officer for 9 years. He knows and all the other deputies I've met or know realize the responsibility they have every day they pin the badge on their shirt. They also have a responsibility to assist fellow officers to ensure their own safety as well as the public. They also have to deal with the fact that many times their contact with John Q has negative connotations by nature. Many other professions are entrusted with the public well-being, not just the sheepdogs. I've been an RN for 16 years. In that time, I've worked with a multitude of doctors and nurses who were outstanding. And conversely, a small minority that I wouldn't let treat my dogs, cause I love my dogs. http://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2013/09/20/224507654/how-many-die-from-medical-mistakes-in-u-s-hospitals This study is a few years old. Seems like much is being made about deaths by police and yet the amount of medical error deaths are staggering. I've been fortunate to have never witnessed an actual medical error death but have known nurses who did and surrendered their license because of errors. Granted, taking care of patients is a different stress than doing a felony traffic stop at 0 dark thirty. There is usually time for patient assessment even during a cardiac or respiratory code situation. I think this analogy is appropriate but the statistics are considerably different. From some study's the rate of medical error deaths is only surpassed by cardiac and cancer related deaths. Police don't always have that luxury. Split second judgements are needed to assess a situation. So considering the amount of bad press LEO's garner; the vast majority perform a difficult job admirably. https://apbweb.com/video-split-second-judgement-call/ I'm proud of my son. And I am proud to call many of his co-workers my friends. They do a job most citizens would refuse to accept or are unable to perform. -

my wife adds a little mustard into the mix and uses ketchup/siracha for a spicy glaze. But that mix of beef and sausage is the best meatloaf mixture. Just as an admission of guilt; I have had meals sans meat. Had a black bean burger a couple of times with a couple of SDA physicians. Have to admit it was tasty.

Witnessed my first walking protest of vegans against the unethical treatment of food animals yesterday. It was at a nearby open shopping mall in SoCal. They were walking throughout the center carrying signs with different stages of butchering, and other conditions of some animals. I know they "steered" clear of the Bass Pro Shop on the east side of the complex. Probably some gun related mystique involved. Many of the protesters were shouting as loud as they could. I did not realize they could hear a 60 yr old man with COPD over their hubbub. Several of the younger members took umbrage of my stance when I voiced opposition to their opinions. They were not impressed by my witty repartee. My old stand bys "My food eats your food" or "killing a plant is the same as killing a 1200 lb. Hereford". Cooler heads prevailed and they continued on their way. Don't know why my wife hit me on the head though. Why is it when 30-40 people start exercising their right to express their opinions very loudly they don't want to hear disparaging remarks??? Not like it was a public venue since it occurred on privately owned property. And I have doubts as to whether the mall owners would want to anger many of the "tenant" restaurants that do offer meatage on their menus. Probably enjoyed the time more than paying 30$ to see a movie. Then we went and ate Vampire tacos at The Yardhouse. Ain't no protesters gonna keep me from my bacon. GBR

We bought a puppy. Looking for tips

I have two GSDs that are sisters. One is huge the other normal size. idk Crate trained them until they started getting too big for the larger wire crates. Now they stay in the garage or the house. 5 years old. And they are smart, taught themselves how to open gates and doors. The smaller one, Jasmine, has a high drive. But the big one, Shasta, has a aggressive, protective mean streak that needs looking after when strangers come to the house. Great dogs though. Love them to pieces. Head tilts are priceless. -

Maybe all life + sentences should be Supermax facilities. Small rooms. No TV, just books, magazines. One hour a day isolated exercise. Minimal visitation rights, no "canteen" at all. Might be more of a deterrent than lifelessness. Life with no hope, no rewards. Adequate. Those conditions are still better than most prisons throughout the world. Or......nah too inhumane.
