  1. Trump just said Australia has better healthcare than America. Australia has universal healthcare.

      I agree UHC is very likely the best and possibly only way. Nobody is saying what these jokers are doing is good. We're just approaching this from slightly different perspectives. I think all of us are basically on the same page except maybe a couple of us just want it to get better no matter the means and maybe a couple only desire UHC. Kind of the same thing dontcha think? As for me, the only hope right now is they accidently do something right.

      How has no one yet pointed out that multiple states think that cinnamon rolls and chili is their unique thing? A quick Google search turns up more mentions of Iowa and Kansas than Nebraska. People in South Dakota also think they are special for having had it in the school cafeteria. It's just a weird Midwest thing.

      Runza is the obvious answer for signature Nebraska dish. It's just not something you see much anywhere else, but everyone who has spent any time in Nebraska knows damn well what it is.

  4. ‏@danhoppen Kenny Bell just revealed he played most of last year with a messed up collarbone. Couldn't lift left arm above hip after game days. || This is a gripe. If he's injured, tell us. We find out about a lot of in-season injuries in the off season. Just tell us a guy is hurt and watch a lot of the grief they get go away. Make things easier.

      We do hear about some injuries quite extensively -- either through the grapevine or as public knowledge -- and others, not even a little, like this one. Maybe it depends on the player's style. I don't think we have a right to know, but hiding it doesn't seem to offer much PR value -- especially if it just comes out in the end anyway. Maybe there's a competitive edge, maybe not.

      I wish I had a better answer. I think mental illness is poorly treated/accepted/identified in this country and is way behind physical medicine. Beyond that, I think it is a complex intersection of issues. Anyone that tries to dig deeper gets caught in a political fog. At a minimum there are sociological, psychological, physiological, and technological components. I think it is to our society's everlasting discredit that we do not expend more effort to actually remedy this situation.

      Knappic it will be interesting to see if Chris Froome rides this year.  There are rumors that he could be banned because of a disagreement about the asthma drug he uses.  He has a known asthma condition so I don't know why all of a sudden he gets banned?

    3. knapplc

      knapplc

      @ladyhawke

      Even with a known condition he has to get an exemption and it looks like he never got one. There's two reasons for that - his condition hasn't been shown to be so debilitating that he needs the meds or he & his team have been lax and just not gotten it.  I can't imagine the latter being the case with a world-class cyclist/cycling team.  My guess is he's mildly asthmatic and is using the meds as a permissible PDE. Hate to say that, but if this is your job & your life, you get that certificate. Right?

    4. ladyhawke

      ladyhawke

      I agree Knappic.  The sport of cycling, unfortunately, has been tainted for a long time.  I think most people knew Lance was doping but he still had to train and he still had to know how to handle the bike. He deserved what he got especially since he lied for so long (I especially feel sorry for his son. The kid defended his Dad to the end then had to find out Lance lied. So sad. ). Lance brought such a heightened awareness to cycling and it would have been so great to have his take of the Tour along with Phil, Paul and Bobke.  (Lance does have a podcast during the tour. )

      UCF’s claim this year is only slightly more ridiculous than Michigan’s in 1997.

      The national championship should be settled on the field. Major conference champions should be in the playoff. So should all undefeateds whose schedules aren’t a complete joke. At the end of the day, UCF will have as good of a claim as whoever wins the game.
