  1. I would give Bill Callahan's right arm to have competed in five BCS games in the past six years.
  2. I saw some clips of Martinez' throwing motion too, and I was thinking, "How did this kid get player of the year in California with that motion?" Must be because of his feet, which isn't a bad thing, but man... it wasn't what we're used to seeing. And I agree - LTW should be getting all the reps behind ZLee.
  3. Big Willie, I'm going to assume you're not a doctor. Let's say you're Bo Pelini. You have a team of medical people tell you the kid is healthy and ready to go. What would you do?
  4. This is off topic (my apologies) but along this vein - I remember very clearly how amped Florida was to play us in the Fiesta Bowl. They were very confident, and talked as if they were in for a struggle but one they could overcome fairly easily. This is against a team that, ten years later, is legitimately in the conversation for “greatest team of all time.” Part of the final score, to me, can be attributed to how lightly they took us. There’s something about being from the Midwest, so far from the epicenter of… anything… that makes people think we’re not worthy of being included with the elite of college football. That attitude is prevalent today (and rightly so – we’ve done nothing for ten years) and it was prevalent in the days of our ascendancy, in the 90s, a decade which we pretty much owned. We can get back to the top, nobody should ever doubt that. We can be what Oklahoma or Florida or USC is. It’s a once-in-a-program’s-lifetime thing to have the kinds of teams we had in the 1990s and we’re not likely to get there again, but to be amongst the top five every year… that’s attainable.
  5. And to edit my statement, I think it's a crapshoot where to put anyone outside of the top four. I think pretty much everyone thinks Florida, Texas, OU and USC are in the title picture this year. After that... it's murky.
  6. Fuzzy memory, but didn't Donovan McNabb return ultra-quickly from his ACL? Like, medical miracle quick?
  7. Spano already redshirted so he can't redshirt again, even medically. What he can do is petition the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility after his eligibility is used up.
  8. Grassy knoll? We're just having a discussion. This isn't aggravated or heated at all. For the record I agree with you completely. Looking at the teams we have to choose from, it's a complete crapshoot on where to put anyone.
  9. Everybody here always says this. But the article starts "Former NFL running back Lawrence Phillips..." Every article mentions he played here. Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Those are the first three results from Google news. I could go on and on, but we all know he's always associated with Nebraska. We all know why, too, and that is what it is. I'm just tired of seeing Nebraska's name mentioned with this guy every single time he gets in trouble with the law.
  10. Fro, Graham's non-partisan rankings don't make up for Forde's partisan rankings. Neither does anyone else's partisanship make up for Forde's. When you're in a position like that, when you're supposed to be doing something with integrity and you don't, that's just wrong. There's no equivocating about it. It's one thing to have them ranked lower. It's another thing not to rank them AT ALL. Out of 15 rankers only two, Forde and Rece Davis, have NU unranked. That's pretty tough to fathom. As for Trev, I can't recall a single time I heard him accused of being a Nebraska homer. But I didn't watch all the time. Now, is it too hard to believe that the fourth best team in the Big 12 should be ranked? I don't know why. We had three teams in the top ten most of last year, and five in the top 15 the year before. This Power Ranking has four SEC teams in the top ten, and five or six overall. I don't see why you would think it's unusual to have that many teams ranked...?
  11. Lots of good stuff in your post but this really stuck out to me. Even with some knowledge of psychology and behavior disorders, it's hard to fathom that some people are unreachable. But they exist, and there's a time when you do have to dissociate yourself from the situation. Maybe jail is what he needs. Maybe he needed to join the military instead of play football. I'm just tired of hearing about "former Nebraska running back" LP 12 years after he played his last game here.
  12. I think that's the same Southern Miss that Cy was cracking on the Jayhawks for scheduling as their "tough" noncon game, if I'm not mistaken. Yes, next season's noncon schedule is bad. Really bad. Almost as bad as the noncon schedule Florida plays every year. The good news is, it should be pretty easy for people to get tickets.
  13. 1620 The Zone, last time I checked, didn't represent the majority of fans. And since you're hearing this second hand, maybe you could calm down a tad before passing judgment on the situation.
  14. Sam Keller led us to 52 points in his first game against Nevada. Without much prep Joey Ganz got us 39 against Kansas. Joe Dailey got us 56 points in his first game. Zac Taylor got us 25 points against Maine. I guess it depends on who you think Zac Lee most accurately resembles. I think he's more like Ganzy than Keller. But then again, I think FAU isn't a pushover, either. They'll be game and will fight. Or at least try.
  15. Well that Aquarium Guy seems to have really good information...... They don't have to cite a specific person. "Unnamed sources" or "sources close to the program" have been used by media outlets for... ever. They could call their source "Deep Throat" for a completely unoriginal name if they choose. As for who that should be... probably the source that got the info to Big Willie, to HSKRNOKC, to the dude on the LJS site who seemed to already know about this, and to the dude who posted the original Rivals thread that this thread was born from. There is clearly a source of information out there, or all these guys I just named are REALLY good guessers. I would like to think a good investigative reporter could find that source and utilize it. But who knows - maybe Shatel and Sipple and all the TV media folks all know about this "source" and choose not to use them. Maybe it's a journalistic choice, and that's OK. But I'm greedy for info like the next guy... so I want more. This is really derailing this thread and I don't want to be guilty of that any longer. I'm concerned about Kody first, and I apologize for taking us into this tangent. Here's hoping he felt less than 100% and they sat him for purely precautionary reasons. Maybe he never sees the field this year even if healthy, and that would be OK. But the bottom line is, this isn't something we would wish on anyone. Good luck, Kody, whatever the situation.
  16. Well, thank you Captain Obvious.... errrr.... whatever. Yeah, I know what you're saying. I know all about reporting with this little nifty Journalism background I have. So I get where you and Halpert are coming from, I really do. That doesn't mean you can't use other sources for your information.
  17. It's because that they need to confirm it with the reliable source before printing it. About 27 years ago, a major national news network went with a rumor that the president was dead and reported it. Trust me, they've been hearing the rumors for the same amount of time that we have, they just can't run with them without having accountability (like us). It had been reported yesterday that Spano was in street clothes. I imagine he had an MRI today, thus the coaches had nothing to confirm until after practice. Clearly the coaches aren't the only sources available if guys on HuskerBoard and/or Rivals, plus a guy I speak to on the LJS website, knew about this by the time it was posted here. I get the fact that they have to be accountable, but there are other ways to be accountable. Either Bo has a tremendously tight lid on this program (which seems unlikely given the fact that we've been talking about this for over two hours before it was in a local media outlet) or the local media just isn't doing a lot of investigative reporting. EDIT - and the guys on 1480 The Spread, Jason Peter and the Nancy Boy (whatever his name is) are still not talking about Spano. They're talking about USA soccer vs. Mexico, the location of the Big XII Championship game, and other stuff. Nothing to do with Spano at all. Eh.
  18. I would imagine he'd be shut down if he aggravated it. Why risk the kid?
  19. Not to be too harsh, but this does not speak well of local media. If this information is accessible to folks on the Internet/blogosphere/whatever, why can't they hint or allude to it at all? Things that make you say hmmmm......
  20. Sorry. I edited that while you typed. Look above. =)
  21. The Spread on 1480 isn't talking about Spano. ATM they're talking about Evans from VA Tech, and talking to a guy from Blacksburg (some media guy) about that. You'd think Spano would be a hot topic. I suppose the coaches could be keeping an injury under wraps, but it seems unlikely.
  22. Based on what? Spano getting hurt. Where did you read that Spano is hurt?
  23. Funny you mentioned that because I checked the OWH twitter page and they have nothing on this: http://twitter.com/OWHbigred
