  1. ESPN just had a little story on what teams touch on their way onto the field! They showed the Rock at Clemson, the Gator head at Florida, the "Go Blue" banner at Michigan and even the horseshoe at Nebraska. Lou Holtz himself stated that HE had the "Play like a champion today" sign placed there during his tenure. So, if SoonerFan says that their's has been around since the Bud Wilkinson days, then he has reason to criticize the "Domer tradition". Can't wait for Saturday night--GO BIG RED!!
  2. Cy-- I've read many of your posts and figured you to be a pretty knowledgeable football fan. But seriously, if you actually believe that drivel that you typed, you need to get your head checked. This "win" by ISU ranks just one, tiny notch above forfeit.
  3. You're right--these are the same players that took VT to the ropes. Chalk that one up as yet another close call that leaves us wondering what could have been. We've seen that enough times over the last several years. The close calls with Texas a couple years ago, and Texas Tech in OT last year.. When is this team going to break out?? Every single time NU gets into a measuring-stick type game, we lose! Don't even count Missouri. A couple years ago, we had to score nearly 50 points a game just to win, and still lost !! Now, we have a good defense and we can't score points. I hope as much as everyone that NU will dominate again, but man.. This offense looks as bad as Callahan's first year with Joe Dailey. There's been enough time for us to get the playmakers to make this offense work and it hasn't happened! I don't blame the attitude of the fans one bit. We're getting tired of mediocrity. We thought we had moved past these types of games.
  4. EPOC--- you're dead wrong. This loss had everything to do with the coaches! Turnovers are directly related to a lack of discipline. This team rarely practices at full speed in practice--which shows on gameday.
  5. There's no denying it this time. The fans are loudly booing the team. Anyone who says otherwise this time is living in dreamland.
  6. Anyone who was at the game and truly believes that the offense was not getting booed is in complete denial of reality!!
  7. Booing the refs?? The refs had absolutely nothing to do with this loss and anyone that thinks otherwise is really nuts about the whole "everyone hates NU" conspiracy theory. The fans were booing the offense and the offensive coaching staff for not executing for an entire half! We pay these coaches MILLIONS of dollars to be sure and not EMBARRASS the University and the state. So by all means, it's our right to tell them that their play is unacceptable. The only way a fan can voice the displeasure is to boo. This isn't little league. They don't need hugs and participation ribbons out there!
  8. Supposedly Auburn has him at the top of its wish list. Mike Leach seems like a better fit for Auburn than Turner Gill.
  9. I'd like to see OU-Texas again. I think both teams could beat Florida.
  10. I do not Watson to leave. I would like to see some continuity with the staff. Watson has been versatile in adjusting the offense.
  11. Agreed. With a big and fast, talented line, nearly any offense would be successful. Just look at Oklahoma...every lineman is over 300 lbs and they don't give up sacks, or get called for holding. During our championship runs, I remember our line went an entire season without a holding call! We also need speed. With speed, any offense works. Just look at our old option offense --virtually unchanged for a decade, yet transformed I'm the 90s because of speed.
  12. i kinda hope he wins a very low scoring, ugly game. just so we can see an OU vs texas rematch and put an end to 45-35, and cuz it'd be awesome to see only the big12 in the title game I agree that it would be great to see an all Big 12 title game, I don't think it's possible. I think the BCS committee has a rule in place now which states that you must be a conference champion to play in the game. Stemming from NU's 2001 appearance in the Rose Bowl after we hadn't even played in the conference title game.
  13. It was a very good game to wa tch! Buffalo was down 10-7 at the half, but put together a great second half on both sides of the ball. Turner has a good looking playbook, and I recognized some of his "Nebraska plays". The postgame, on field interview with Coach Gill was touching. He told the reporter that he was speechless and just kept shaking his head. Fighting back tears, he said that he just wanted to thank Jesus Christ for putting them in a position to compete and win all season. The reporter asked why he was speechless and Gill really let the tears out. He talked about where the team was three years ago, and he told them that they could be champions, and now they are. The reporter thanked and congratulated him and Gill turned around to his waiting athletic director who gave him a big hug. Big congrats to Buffalo and the 2007 MAC Coach of the Year!
  14. I cannot believe how some of you are reacting about our bowl matchup! Clemson is a respectable opponent who matches up with Nebraska in many ways. They are a tradition rich program with great fans who travel well. Given what our program has experience in the last 4 years, I would think that we'd welcome ANY bowl opportunity! Just what type of pedestal do you people think an unranked, 8-4 Husker team that hasn't been relevant for nearly a decade, should be placed on?! We are in no position to judge a bowl opponent as inferior.
  15. Ehh, I don't think there's any sort of set requirements that a game has to have for a yearly contest to become a rivalry game. Obviously most heated rivalries have a few things in common (close proximity to one another, history of success for one or both programs, perceptually or literally differing social dynamics at each school, reciprocity, etc) and CU/NU fits the bill for most of these categories, but it's not like missing one or two of the common qualifiers excludes a game from being seen as a rivalry. That said, now that NU's fallen on hard times it seems that the student body at CU gets a lot more excited for the CSU game every year, so maybe soon enough we'll have a situation where both sides are railing on and on about how this "really isn't a rivalry." Regardless, the title of rivalry game doesn't really matter to me too much, I just enjoy the tradition (or if you're prefer a less romantic term, "recurrence") of the game the day after Thanksgiving. It's nice to have that big network audience, and it's a superb way to wake up from a turkey coma. As far as the whole "Oklahoma is our only real rival" argument - well, I just hope you guys really soaked in all the pageantry, tradition, and mutual respect that game brought into your lives this year... you know, for the 3 or 4 minutes of gametime when Oklahoma wasn't up by 28 points. Wait-- where's the qualifier that states that rivalries are created on the field, and not by some mountain coach who decides that his team needs a rival, so he designates another team as the "red letter game"? As much as it hurts Husker fans to hear Oklahoma say that Texas is their real rival, I think it ticks these 'Buffs off that we don't acknowlege a rivalry with them.
  16. If there had to be a trophy, maybe a bronze buffalo with a corn cob shoved up it's butt. And as far as a "rivalry" goes, I think there has to be a continued history of close games, and an even won/loss record in the series. In the total NU-CU series (I'm not going to waste the time to research the accurate number) I believe we lead the series by at least 35 games! Oklahoma is the only team in the old Big 8 that we consistently competed with. We have such a huge advantage in wins over all the other former Big 8 teams, so any talk of a rivalry with those teams seems silly.
  17. Agreed. I'd like another shot at Virginia Tech too.
  18. OK, whatever guys. I'll accept your apology when the "real" media reports this.
  19. My cousin is on the Daily Nebraskan staff. Not officially reported yet, but Glenn became irate when he wasn't awarded a Blackshirt and was insubordinate. He quit the team, but later came back and is now suspended.
  20. Yes-- Castille did have 3 good consecutive runs, and then what happened? He gets yanked and Helu Jr. comes in. The running back rotation makes absolutely no sense. The key problem is the offensive line. If the line was good, it wouldn't matter who the running back is. Back to the original topic-- If Watson commits to passing the ball more, I think opposing defenses would just blitz more. We don't have gamebreaker recievers and our opponents know it. Sure, we might burn them on some plays, but Ganz would be on the run the whole game and would wear himself out.
  21. I got 7/11. But they missed one-- North Texas Mean Green.. doesn't end in "s", and it's not on the list.
  22. This is a fine idea, but WE CANNOT RUN THE BALL! Look at NU's struggles with running against their first two opponents. If they can't run the ball on Western Michigan or San Jose St, then how can we run on better teams? We consistently tried to "pound the rock" at San Jose, and it didn't work. It only worked against NMSU because of NMSU's size disadvantage and alignment. The only thing that can help this running game this season is to commit to one back-- HELU--and use running plays with a lead blocker.
  23. It's funny how everyone says KU had a cake schedule last year. It's not our fault you jokers are down!! You've been down since 2002. It's not our fault A&M wasn't getting it done. It's not our fault CU was rebuilding. It wasn't our fault CMU lost 3 NFL players before they played us. That's a lousy reasoning to say KU didn't beat anyone. They beat better teams than anyone else in the North so everyone needs to check themselves. KU will beat South Florida, that's a joke saying they'll lose that game. You Husker fans are in loser denial yet again for the 5th year in a row now. I gave ya'll props and said I think you'll finish 7-5 and everyone is like "you're underestimating Nebraska" I must ask- How am I underestimating you guys??? You went 5-6 last year!?! 7-5 is a big improvement for a team that didn't win enough games to even become bowl eligible. I'm just saying every year you guys think you're alot better than you are. I lost count of how many posters got on here and claimed Keller for Heisman and Purify for All-American Team. I just want 1 Husker fan to admit to me "Yes JGS30, we're down, and we'll be down for 2 more years until Bo gets his guys in". There is a reason Mark May and ESPN, and CFB News dog on you guys, it's because you all think your better than you really are. Sometimes the truth hurts. 5 National Championships. Decades of Conference Championships. Hundreds of All-Americans. 3 Heisman winners. Need I go on? Until the Kansas Jayhawks have accomplished ANY ONE of these things--- don't even come here hyping your one-hit wonder 'Hawks. WE DON'T CARE! Respect is earned-- and you haven't earned it yet. Go have 40 years of winning records, or go to a bowl game for 3 decades in a row, and maybe you can talk. Sell out your dump of a stadium for 40 plus years-- and maybe you can talk. Win the freakin' conference for a change-- and maybe you can talk. You're certainly not above us, so you look like a fool talking down to us.
