    Does anyone understand why The Irishman isn't getting a wide release, but only relegated to small theaters?

      Just a guess, but sometimes they do that to have it out at a certain point/time so that it can be considered for the Oscars.

      Yup. It's a Netflix movie, but it needs to be in some theaters to get consideration by the academy.

      There's a podcast on Fresh Air with the stepson of Chuckie O'Brien that's worth listening to.  I had no idea the story or the relatives involved.  https://www.npr.org/2019/10/01/766010613/in-hoffa-s-shadow-uncovers-an-author-s-family-ties-to-a-mafia-mystery

       

      And I think because it was produced by Netflix there is a small theatre release now, then it goes live on streaming at the end of Nov.
