  1. actually it'll probably end up being Cory Mckeon

    From a previous thread:

    Nebraska Linebacker Granted Medical Redshirt

LINCOLN (AP) - Nebraska middle linebacker Corey McKeon was granted a medical redshirt by the NCAA Monday, after not participating in the majority of Nebraska's 2007 games. As a result of the ruling, McKeon has been granted one extra year of eligibility, meaning he will be able to return to the field for the 2008 season.

Under NCAA regulations, a player may be granted a medical hardship waiver if he or she does not participate in more than 20 percent of the team's games, with all participation occuring during the first half of the season.

Nebraska athletic department officials reviewed game film and determined that McKeon did not actually participate in any of Nebraska's final ten games of the 2007 season,

"Participate is defined as 'taking part in something,'" explained Nebraska Director Of Football Operations Jeff Jamrog. "We contended, and the NCAA agreed, that Corey didn't really take part in the final ten games."

NCAA Vice President Gary McIntosh declined to comment, other than saying "That game film speaks for itself."

    When do I start?

  3. Defense is so much about passion. Persuit to the ball and not being denied. I feel that if you have any football soul, you have to love to play for Pelini.

Whether he was truthful or not, Chase Daniels said last year's D was "like a high school team". I don't think that this year's D will be so much simpler, but MUCH less predictable. Last year I felt it was the "defense of the week"; a different defense variation each week, that didn't change during the game. After a couple of series the opponent knew exactly how to attack the D for the rest of the game. (Except Texas. It took them 3 quarters)

  4. The only way we'll get the other QBs in the games this year is if we blow out our opponents. I don't see that happening. However, I also don't see next season being "compromised" if we don't play them. Regardless of if they're in the game or not, they still are practicing daily and learning new things, thus developing into better players. That's the best you can hope for.

But if I had to give my prediction on whose going to start, I will say Lee. I think he's going to be a stud.

Hate to admit it but I like what Pinkel did with Brad Smith/Chase Daniel. And history shows that Chase benefited from getting into the game in the 2nd quarter for a couple of series. Brad was definitely 1st string, so there was no looking over his shoulder worrying if he was going to loose his spot.

On the other hand, I was concerned last year when Keller went down considering the lack of snaps that Ganz had when the game was in hand. He managed, so Watson did a good job preparing him during practice. But practice under Bo is completely different.

Different strokes for different folks. Results matter.

  5. Position battle to watch: I think the battle to watch is at linebacker, where Nebraska looks to replace three departed starters. The middle seems to be tied up by the junior Phillip Dillard, who started two games a season ago, making 37 stops. On the outside, a handful of walk-ons (the senior Tyler Wortman, the sophomores Thomas Grove and Kyle Moore) are fighting it out for playing time with the sophomores Blake Lawrence and Latravis Washington and the redshirt freshman Austin Stafford. Lawrence and Washington played sparingly as freshmen a season ago, but are the likely favorites when fall camp opens in August. One name to watch out for when the season comes around is the incoming freshman Will Compton, who should find himself on the two-deep either inside or on the strongside before the end of the season.

    Did they forget someone?

  6. “I can tell you this,” Glenn says. “If Coach (Bo) Pelini hadn’t been here and we kept the same staff, I wouldn’t have been here. It’s just the way I felt. I don’t feel I was treated fairly. I wasn’t given the same opportunity as maybe some others. It’s hard. You just kind of question your ability: ‘Can I do this?’ or ‘Am I not good enough?’ So I kind of saw with Coach Pelini getting here as kind of a blessing."

    AMEN

  7. Your right WMSam, your D will make this an interesting game. The husker O is proven for the most part so moving the ball doesn't seem to be too much of a concern. Now seeing how the WM O vs UNL D is what will make or break this game. If WM can manage to move the ball without much trickery then it will be a long and fun game. I like to see competitiveness from both teams during a game regaurdless of NCAA stature. Just so long as its a W in the Huskers schedule.

Shouldn't UNL O have no opposition due to the lack of WMDs?

  8. Anything too tricky and the Broncos are taking it back the other way for a quick 6-0 bubble bursting. Keep it conservative and maybe grind out a win. Anything risky gives a pretty good MAC team an opportunity to stay in the game long enough to make an upset possible.

Shoot, now it can't be anything mentioned on the board since Wmasam04 is direct pipeline to the Broncos coaching staff. He's shaking in his boots - he wants us to go conservative, otherwise they won't have a chance.

Pretty good results, especially if you call off by one OK. By this standard the south was OK. In the north KU, went up 3, CU up 2 and of course NU - down 3.

    Thoughts?

  10. oh VT, im a Falcons fan so i actually dont mind VT cuase the Falcons are like 30%VT players...mot that jimmy williams, mike vick, and others are gone, the total has decreased by a lot

nfl_ap_leavenworth_300.jpg are like 0.1% VT players

  11. If I were a betting person (I'm not), I'd say this is a push - it seems to be the highest probability.

    I'd stay away from it.

Here's my view on the chances of a certain record:

    5-7 or worse: 5%

    6-6: 10%

    7-5: 40%

    8-4: 30%

    9-3: 10%

    10-2 or better: 5%

This post would be better if it included a histogram, the variance and the standard deviation.

  12. In his only year as the program's defensive coordinator, Nebraska finished first nationally in passing efficiency defense, second in scoring defense and 11th in total defense.

Compare that to last season, when the Huskers surrendered a school-record 455 points, including 76 to Kansas and 65 to Colorado, ultimately costing Bill Callahan his job.

I truly believe that if the D-staff had been retained either a} NU would have had a couple of B12 championships and a NC or b} Callahan's ego and Pelini would have gone DEFCON-1 :box

Pelini retained offensive coordinator Shawn Watson from the Callahan staff -- hey, nothing wrong with a unit that averaged 33.4 points a game.

This is what impresses me about this staff - keeping quality staff members who have proven they are competent. What will really impress me would be if (and I really hope it doesn't happen) one of the assistant coaches after a couple of years for whatever reason cannot produce results, and Pelini fires him. Devaney did it, promoting TO up to OC. TO did it, hiring McBride as DC. Solich did it his last year, but wasn't given a chance (probably should have done it earlier). Callahan didn't and should have.

    Ouch! Imagine canning your brother.
